The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands, located on the North Malé Atoll and reachable by a 45-minute speedboat transfer or 10-minutes seaplane transfer from Malé International Airport, was exquisitely designed by Kerry Hill Architects, with inspiration from the ocean forces, wind and waves. One hundred luxuriously appointed over water or beach villas set above vibrant azure waters or nestled along white-sand beach coves, offer spacious living spaces that blur the line between indoors and outdoors with panoramic sliding doors, sun decks with infinity pools and breathtaking views. From Sangu conch shell blown on arrival, evoking a scene from the ancient Maldives; legendary Ritz-Carlton service by an Aris Meeha, island butler, a character inspired by the olden royal courts; to the celebration of sunsets with an elegant performance of Bodu Beru drums that honours the oldest surviving tradition of the Maldives, followed by a flaming ceremony marking the transition from day to evening, The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands invites you to embrace island life. Featuring 7 restaurants and bars between the dedicated Culinary Island, Grand Sunset Beach and Fari Marina Village, offering curated experiences for all tastes. Guests can wake up to the aromas of freshly brewed coffee in La Locanda, where the Southern Italian cuisine and customs unfold; savour indulgent mezze platters and succulent kebabs at Arabesque; embrace the Mediterranean at the family-friendly Beach Shack, or appreciate Oriental flavours at Summer Pavilion, a contemporary Cantonese fine dining restaurant. Submerge into nature with Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ambassadors of the Environment program, an exclusive to the destination. From snorkeling expeditions to learning about the wonders of the galaxies, guests of all ages can join in a selection of educational and engaging activities. Children can step into a magical island realm at the storybook-like Ritz Kids, with indoor and outdoor play areas, interactive spaces and its own pool with a slide. Unwind at the ring-shaped overwater The Ritz-Carlton Spa, with nine spa treatment rooms aligned with the ancient Chinese philosophy of Yin and Yang and complemented with healing massages and organic body and skincare collection by Bamford.

Where do I even begin?!... From the time we arrived by speedboat to the property we were greeted by two of the managers and members of the staff with a warm welcoming. We were then introduced to our butler Abu who took us by golf cart to our villa. The property itself has a different vibe than any other Maldives resort I have seen...very modern, clean, but still beach chic at the same time. Abu was aware that we were very tired from our journey...this was our final stop from my 30th birthday trip celebration..we had already visited Italy and Seychelles and this was the final leg of our trip. He was aware that we were tired so took us straight to the villa where we were able to do check-in in private which was an absolute treat. After a quick check-in process he let us know to ring him whenever we were ready to explore the resort and he would come pick us up. The villa itself is absolutely breathtaking! In our villa we had a curved infinity pool outside that blended in with the ocean and at sunset it was just so dreamy. Abu was very friendly and knowledgable about the resort as we asked him many questions about the different features of the property. Abu was also always one step ahead, when he picked us up or dinner he made sure housekeeping came and did turn down service...we never even had to ask since it was always already done. Another feature I loved was they even had a pillow menu with six different types of pillows to choose from. We visited the O bar for dinner and met again with the assistant manager J. Serrano and chatted over how he had friends that lived in Houston as well. We then met chef Jameel who made some of the best nigiri I have ever had....he also made amazing wagyu steak for us as well...honestly there wasn't one thing that he made that we did not like...everything was amazing! Chef Jameel was so personable and we found out that he even worked at a hotel in Houston as well at one point earlier in his career. The property also has a five piece band called the Gypsy Queens who play songs in English, Russian, Ukranian, and Italian....have you ever heard of that before?!...because I sure have not and it was mind blowing to me. The band went around to the different tables and asked what type of song you wanted them to play. When the band came to us they played Take it Easy by the Eagles....I looked over at my husband and he was tearing up since that was a song his late father and him would listen to constantly...we hadn't told them to play it they just started playing it after asking where we were from...if that isn't a memorable/perfect moment I don't know what is. Still thinking about it I get a little choked up and have goose bumps since it was just such a beautiful moment. I also have to note our waiter Apple (sorry if I misspelled) who was probably one of the best waiters I have ever had, you could just tell he really loved what he did and like us loved good champagne since he had such great knowledge. I still remember he would kneel down to be eye level to the table and my glass while pouring. We also, had lunch at the beach shack and our waiter Hisham was super friendly as well and made excellent lunch recommendations for us as well. While in our pool we saw this crazy futuristic yacht go by and asked one of the staff what was it and he informed us it was the Adastra and it was available to be rented by guests...just google Adastra yacht and you will see what I am talking about. Throughout our stay we were greeted daily by managers making sure we were having an excellent stay. Overall, the staff on the property never missed a beat...I honestly cannot think of one complaint as far as service goes. For a place that literally just opened I was surprised by how smooth everything was, really beyond my expectations. Another thing I loved was how whenever you saw a team member they always placed their hand over their heart as a way to greet you. We were soooo sad to leave! As we were leaving we passed O bar and chef Jameel ran out to say goodbye to us! While waiting for the boat the two managers came and asked for our feedback about our stay and wished us off as well. When we got back to Male airport we were met by our Ritz airport greeter Farish M. who took our bags and helped us get checked in to our flight. I had ran into a problem as I had forgot to fill out one form online and I was having trouble connecting to the airport Wifi...he helped me connect to his wifi hotspot so I could get online to complete what was needed by the airline. I will say that this place is not cheap, but you definitely get what you pay for and more. Once we got to the Ritz, my husband joked that he totally forgot about our previous stops on the trip in Italy and Seychelles since he was just so blown away by the property. The only thing I wish they had were Ritz Carlton Maldives shirts in the boutique to purchase :) , but I think they said they were working on that. Also, Abu was able to get us a couple souvenirs to take back which was great as well. Truly an unforgettable experience and we are already dying to go back.

We spent five fantastic days at the Ritz Carlton and had a thoroughly relaxing time. From the moment we were met at Male airport up until our return, we were well looked after. We were met at International arrivals and quickly led to the private yacht that would take us on the 50 minute journey to the resort. The staff at the airport as well as on board were extremely friendly and helpful. Snacks and drinks were offered on board and there were many seating options both inside and outside. A very luxurious welcoming. The other guests also travelling with us arrived on the same flight as us so there was no waiting around. On arrival at the resort we were welcomed by the hotel management and our Aris Meeha, Nabeel, who looked after us during our stay. He did an exceptional job and was always available to help with everything from dinner reservations to room service requests. Nabeel gave us a tour of the resort and then took us to our room where check in formalities took place. He explained everything we needed to know about the room and then left us to enjoy the facilities. We were able to contact him via Whatssapp and direct dial from the room phone. We had an exceptional overwater villa with lagoon view. The room is very spacious, with a comfortable king size bed, a sitting area with a sofa and TV and a large bath tub in the bedroom. Behind the main bedroom was a very large wardrobe where we could store our suitcases and clothes. There were two sinks, a separate toilet, and a big indoor shower that led out to an outdoor shower just round the corner from the outdoor infinity plunge pool. The highlight was of course the view out to the crystal clear waters of the Indian Ocean. There are floor to ceiling windows covering the entire length of the room which can then be opened up to create an even more spacious outdoor feel. The room’s mini bar was well stocked with non alcoholic items being complimentary and replenished daily. There were tea (Tea Forte and TWG) and coffee making facilities and an endless supply of still and sparkling water. There were also many charging points, particularly at the bedside, including fast charging USB ports. Complimentary bathroom amenities by Banford were provided along with many other nice touches from bath salts, to shaving equipment, flip flops and more. The room was serviced twice daily and always timed for when we were out of the room. Each room has two bikes available for guests to ride around the resort and to the various dining establishments which was a fun thing to do. Buggies could also be requested for transportation. I was particularly impressed by the small touches - when we arrived there were two sets of flip flops, one much smaller than the other and evidently too small for us to use. Before the end of the day, these were replaced with two bigger sized pairs without us having to ask. The same happened with dressing gowns - the smaller one was replaced with a larger one. On our last night the staff set up a (battery operated) candlelit bubble bath which was waiting for us when we returned from dinner, another very nice touch. The hotel has numerous restaurants including one located on a separate island. We enjoyed dining at the Summer Pavilion (modern Chinese cuisine), La Locanda (all day dining - Italian at dinner) and Arabesque (Lebanese and Indian fusion) with the latter located a 10-minute boat ride across from the Ritz Carlton. The Fari Islands are made up of three main Island groupings - one being the Ritz Carlton. The other two also have hotels opening as well as shops and restaurants that all guests can enjoy independently of the hotel. The hotel offers a free shuttle across, throughout the day. If not included already with your reservation, the hotel offers a meal plan add-on which was explained via e-mail when the hotel contacted us for advance payment of the boat transfers to and from the resort. Platinum Bonvoy members and above are offered a 20% discount for both the meal plans as well as at some of the restaurants if choosing to dine as you go. On arrival we were also offered a weekly schedule of activities ranging from snorkelling and diving to yoga events. The hotel has an extensive gym and offers a private trainer. There is also a dedicated diving and water sports centre. Architecturally the resort is stunning and a lot of thought has gone into the design which is also focused on sustainability (all overwater villas have solar panels on their roof). The resort only opened in July and it feels like any teething issues have all been dealt with. As with many resorts in the Maldives, there is an element of sterility which makes everything feel extra manicured. The greenery is certainly magnificent, but I think the resort will naturally mature into its environment given time. Although we did not need to use it, the Ritz Kids centre looked impressive with water slides and other entertainment for young visitors. I highly recommend the Ritz Carlton for a luxurious stay in the Maldives.
