We had a very comfortable upstairs suite - clean, spacious and with a spectacular view over the nearby beach. Fell asleep to the sound of the waves. Judy, the host, was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very generous but you need to bring food for other meals yourself - no restaurants or stores at this remote location. Anaura Bay and the coast nearby are very beautiful but few amenities, would suit people who are happy swimming, walking on the beach, reading or just spending time with a loved one.
We stayed at the cottage which is a self-contained, self-catering, stand-alone 2 storied building. The bedroom upstairs was fantastic, light and airy, with stunning views over the deck across Anaura Bay. There are a few quirks with the layout, such as no bathroom upstairs, but that beautiful room and view more than made up for it. The grounds are nice with chairs and loungers at appropriate locations to take in the views from different perspectives, and it is just a short walk down a steep path to the beach.
Absolutely beautiful part of the country. Judy, our host, was amazing. Very endearing and makes the most amazing breakfast! Our room was comfortable, clean and we just loved the small touches such as a vase full of fresh flowers on the table. We could have listened to Judy all day. Her knowledge of the area and respect for her surroundings was to be commended. We wish her all the success she deserves. A remarkable place and host.
We thoroughly enjoyed this very peaceful retreat. 9kms off the main road and down a winding drive, we arrived at the lodge overlooking a perfect east coast beach. The lodge was very comfortable, full cooking facilities, magnificent views. Judy, lodge owner, was very pleasant, helpful and enthusiastic about the area. Recommend that you take all you need in the way of food (unless you are doing the b&b option) as its quite a drive to the nearest restaurant. We stayed two night, could have stayed longer.
We rang Judy in the middle of the day that we needed accommodation and although inconvenient for her, as work was being done on the house, she readily agreed to our stay. Unfortunately after dark we had a puncture several kilometres from Anaura Bay but Judy kept in touch, ensuring we were safe and even offering to come and collect us! We finally arrived early evening to find that Judy had turned on the heat pump and electric blankets. Breakfast next day was a delicious feast. Unfortunately we had to rush away to Gisborne for a replacement tyre and could only take a quick look at the lovely view down into Anaura Bay. We hope to return for a summer holiday sometime to enjoy the peaceful setting and beautiful beach. Thank you Judy!
Our host Judy was so kind and went out of her way to make our visit memorable. Whole beach views from the bedroom in the cottage are spectacular. Lovely linen and towels. We watched a golden full moon reflect in the waters of the bay. You must stay here.
We stayed one night last week, but it was not long enough. This place is amazing, and Judy the owner is such a lovely person. We stayed in the cottage but both rooms have gorgeous views out over the bay. There is a full kitchen downstairs and two beds, along with a huge bathroom with big bottles of expensive shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Upstairs is the main bedroom with a super comfy big bed and picture postcard views out to the bay. Actually we slept with the huge folding glass doors open so we could see the sea and stars and also hear the waves just below us. Judy makes a delicious home made breakfast too. The beach is just a few steps down to a secluded bay with golden sand. Parking is right outside the door....OMG we loved our stay here so much. I thoroughly recommend Rangimarie Beachstay.…
We chose to stay with Judy at Rangimarie mainly because of the geography - it being situated approximately halfway between our previous accommodation at Lake Waikaremoana and our present base in the Bay of Plenty. We decided upon a 2 night stay to give the driver (me) a rest, but, nevertheless, anticipated taking the car out for a short drive to explore the immediate area on our full day there. In fact the car never moved as we were totally blown away by the views down to the beautiful Anaura beach and the sheer tranquility of the place. After a fabulous breakfast provided by Judy and a spot of fishing we walked the full length of the beach and back, (about 4.5 miles round trip) and, after a hefty self-catered meal, shared some stunning photos with our friends in the UK, NZ and Australia via the good free wifi. The accommodation was reasonably priced, spacious and extremely comfortable with a really comfortable bed. I would recommend this accommodation to anyone touring the area - but strongly suggest they stay for at least 2 nights to fully appreciate it.…
We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful and natural place, with direct access to a fabulous beach stretching for miles. Judy is a great host, so informative about the area and its inhabitants, and her breakfasts are something special.
