I was working in Carlisle and needed a place to stay on my way back down south as I'd been working late. I stumbled on this charming pub which is a short distance from the A66. Although I booked the room very late 9.30pm over the phone the staff waited for me to arrive and showed me to a very nice little room where I had a very comfortable and quiet night's sleep. On rising the breakfast was excellent and service was as it should be in the morning cheerful and prompt. All in all don't believe the negative reviews which all really seem to be about no dogs in the restaurant which is a rule which I would support. Shepherds Inn is the place you are looking for..... Cannot rate this lovely inn highly enough! We booked very late on a Sunday evening on our way back from a long walking weekend. We arrived just in time for dinner and it was wonderful! Both me and my mum have to eat gluten free and there were more than enough options for us (particularly helpful that the options we could have were marked on the menu!). The staff were so wonderful and took our bags to our rooms while we were eating, they really went above and beyond to make our stay as easy as possible! We needed to head of early in the morning and they made extra effort to organise an early breakfast for us, again the food was amazing! The bedrooms we both had were so comfy, the bed was just what I needed after a long day walking! From staff to amenities this was by far one of the best b&bs I’ve ever stayed in and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to stay in the area! And to the staff who looked after us, thank you!!!

We booked into The Shepherds last minute whilst en route to a site visit at Centre Parcs.

Very warm welcoming on arrival from a lovely female member of staff, easy check-in. We ate I the restaurant and it was lovely, with a good selection of food options including a festive menu at this time of year.

The rooms were clean and tidy. We weren’t able to have breakfast as we were leaving too early. Yet.. we were made a packed lunches to take away with massive sandwiches, homemade shortbreads & mince pies and fruit. We couldn’t have asked for more.

Jamie was great behind the bar and kept me entertained when he and my client realised they grew up in the same area in the South West!

We will be visiting again very soon on business.

We stayed here last week with friends, whilst travelling around the Lake District. Beautifully situated right by the village green. We received a warm welcome and showed to our rooms.
The rooms are clean and comfortable.
We had booked a meal and when trying to change the time was told they finish bookings at 7pm so this might be something to take into consideration.
The food was freshly cooked and hot, the breakfast was cooked on request and you could choose what you wanted.

We stayed here for one night while walking the Pennine Journey, having been picked up by taxi from nearby Kirkland at the foot of Cross Fell. The staff are very friendly, and our room (Wensleydale) was well equipped and full of charm. The bar/dining area is pleasantly laid out and the food is excellent. We would not hesitate to return to this delightful inn.

Passing through and arrived there after 2.30 and asked if they were still serving lunch and the answer was yes.Great as we had been on the road for a while.Shown to our seats and waitress brought menus and took drinks order. Shortly after the food order was taken and after a little wait as the food was being freshly cooked our meals arrived. The steak pie and chips was delicious the best homemade pie ever tasted.also the shepherds pie was excellent.

Called in on the spur of the moment pleasant and welcoming staff. I had the shepherds pie which was absolutely lovely piping hot with beautiful presented veg. Extremely tasty and well presented. The wife had the chicken wraps with salad and sweet potato chips. Can’t complain about anything will definitely call in again

I stayed here last night on the Coast to Coast bike route, during COVID. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and my room (Swaledale) was fine (very clean). I chose it over an en suite because it shares a bathroom that contains a bath, but there’s no sharing at the moment and so I had the lovely bath to myself. Dinner (the fabled Wathby Whale) was not only truly enormous but also delicious, and breakfast was large and yummy. The bed was very comfy :)

Recently visited with group of 11. Warm welcome had beautiful private corner waiting for us. Been out in other restaurants recently and was worried with social distance and services. But what a pleasant surprise. They went out of there way to do everything that we wanted made us feel at home. We had travelled from London. Good food and portions and pricing. Thank you please keep up.

Whilst staying in the area, we visited the Shepherds Inn a few times, and enjoyed every visit. Staff were all helpful and attentive.
We were impressed by the social distancing and by the staff in PPE. Plenty of hand sanitizers available. The Landlord even came out to say hello, and make general enquiries.
Food was served promptly, despite being busy, and we thoroughly enjoyed our visits.
Would highly recommend, as prices were good and service first class.
