What an incredible stay! From start to finish, we were made to feel at home. We were picked up by Tuk-tuk from the station and dropped at the homestay. We were greeted by big smiles and ice cold beers. Saman and his wife are the most hospitable people I have ever come across on my travels and truly looked after us. Saman drove us around all day, and showed us the most interesting things, like pepper trees and clove bushes. The curry's at the Princess of Dickoya are brilliant and the breakfasts are unreal! This place could charge triple the price and still be a bargain! I hope to return to stay here again one day.
I stayed v happy 3 nights at the Dickoya Princess. From the free pick up from Hatton station everything was fantastic. The room was clean, large and en suite. The private balcony a real bonus. The authentic Sri Lankan food is fantastic, the helpings huge. The standout though was the owners' hospitality - from pots of tea to beer in the evening nothing was too much trouble. I also used Saman's services as a guide and driver to explore local sights - waterfalls, Nurawa Eliya and Horton Plains (sadly shut due to Covid-19). Can highly recommend the whole experience.
We were met by Saman, the owner of Princess of Dickoya who personally collected us from the train station upon our arrival and we were instantly overwhelmed by his warmth and aura! On arriving at Princess of Dickoya we were then welcomed to our room by Semila, Saman's wife who's smile and kindness was totally contagious... We were served tea on our balcony and shown their fruit trees eating Guavas and Avocados fresh from the trees on their property! Simply nothing was too much trouble - we were climbing Adams Peak that day and Saman kindly organised a tuk tuk driver for our trip who stopped on the journey for GORGEOUS picture taking opportunities! Earlier that day we placed our order for our evening meal which Semila cooked for us... My partner and I were simply speechless, astounded at the variety and assortment of flavours of her authentic Sri Lankan dishes! We testify that this was the best meal we had the pleasure of devouring in Sri Lanka! Semila even offering to provide the recipes for some of the dishes we simply could not live without eating again! For reference the coconut sambal, mint chutney, radish salad and banana flower was utterly divine! Needless to say the breakfast was also on a whole other level and has us still dreaming of the Avocado smoothie! It was simply and wholly inspiring to see how Saman and his family were just so passionate, proud and organic in running their beautful Guest house, which is without doubt for very good reason - what an accolade! Honestly it was a whole hearted pleasure to have the opportunity to meet and stay with such a generous and kind hearted family and this experience will forever remain in our hearts and memories! Thank you so much Saman, Semila and the Princess of Dickoya Team!…
I made my booking the day of and arrived at the gate only to be greeted by one of my favorite people I have met so far. Semila took me straight to my room and the view is spectacular. Almost all of the rooms face east so you can see the sunrise each morning from your bed or wonder out to the deck. The Sri Lankan food is wonderful! Just be aware there is a lot! I recommend sharing 1 meal between 2 people. But what makes this place so special is the family that runs it. They are all so nice warm and offer impeccable service. They make you feel part of their family. I hope to come back in the future!
The host has find us in railway station and drive us for free to his place. It's a such nice place! We were so happy that we decided to stay, because we felt really welcome. Owners wife was so kind to us, she cooked us the most wonderful breakfast! They also have a scooter, which we rented. Hatton and Dikoya are really great to discover. The room was really big and very confortable also very clean. We had a balcony to enjoy it to ourself. I really recommend this place, because we felt like at home, the staff is realy kind.
