Hotel Woolstore 1888 in Sydney garners praise for its eclectic and artistic decor, which contributes to a chic and inviting atmosphere. The prime location near Darling Harbour and central Sydney is a highlight for many guests, as are the hotel's cleanliness and attentive service. While the comfortable rooms and complimentary minibar items add to the hotel's appeal, some travelers have noted inconsistencies with offered perks, leading to mixed feelings about the hotel's overall value. Despite this, the generous amenities and proximity to public transport make it a popular choice among visitors.

What a lovely hotel. We received such a warm welcome on arrival, the room was ready early meaning we could check in at 11ish, after an overnight flight this was appreciated. The rooms are pretty small, but very well designed. There’s shampoo, soap, hair dryer, free small mini bar and a good bag every day. Very modern, comfy and great location in Sydney. We walked to the opera house from this hotel (about 40 minutes). Highly recommended. Lots of places to eat very close to hotel.

Ovolo Darling Harbour is in a top notch location - obviously for Darling Harbour but also Lyric Theatre and the ICC, literally a five minute walk to each. With reasonable priced parking and the Convention Light Rail stop across the street, you really can’t go wrong.

The rooms are small, but you know that going in, given the ‘shoebox’ naming convention. So if you’re in town for a week or for work and need a bit more space to spread your wings (and shopping) this might not be the choice for you but it was absolutely perfect for us for the night.

We had originally booked for a birthday and anniversary weekend and circumstances changed to have a friend who’s Sydney trip overlapped with ours stay in our room which was not a problem for the staff to add a trundle and upsize the room. On check in we were still treated to balloons, snack bag and a bottle of bubbles for our special trip.

The included mini bar and candy bar are a nice touch that add to the overall enjoyable experience.

Friendliest first class service and stay. The staff are down to earth and super helpful and nothing is too much!!! We were so well looked after above and beyond. We will be back!!! A home away from home. From the best location to the fabulous funky interior and although it’s right in the hub of Darling Harbour it feels relaxed, quiet and peaceful. The inclusive in room mini bar and snack pack is the best especially when everywhere else it stings you or isn’t available anymore !!! A fabulous funky inner city boutique stay that is more like a very special retreat.

Aesthetically a very nice hotel, with a few annoying features which make it feel like a backpacker hostel at times. Enjoyed the novelty of the design, but would not stay again.

The rooms are small but clean, and well-designed, with very comfortable bed and hot shower with reasonable pressure. There is no noise from other rooms, and there is an Alexa device to play Spotify in the room, which is a nice touch, as well as a big flat screen TV with plenty of channels but some issues with digital reception on some channels. There is a kettle but unfortunately no microwave. I went in the height of summer and found the room freezing (and not responsive to the thermostat, even if you turned it off, the air con kept coming). This meant it was impossible to relax in the room.

The downstairs restaurant & lobby area is quite dark and also not a very welcoming place to linger. It feels like a dodgy bar, even at breakfast time. There is constant daggy music piped throughout the restaurant and lobby - to the young backpackers staffing the place, it probably seems funky, but for the generations likely to stay here, it's just the daggiest, saddest 80s music possible. I didn't like the 'free mini bar' & 'social hour' novelties. It's socially irresponsible and the alcohol is cheap & nasty (wine in a can, etc). The social hour thing is just weird, with awkward boomers & Gen Xers sipping cheap alcohol in silence, listening to the awful hotel muzak. It would work in a backpacker hostel, not so much in a hotel for grown ups.

The best part is the breakfast buffet, which is included and delicious. The front of house staff are friendly but young Europeans with a definite "backpacker" vibe.

The location is handy for Darling Harbour and the National Australian Maritime Museum. You can walk to Circular Quay from here (Opera House & Sydney Harbour Bridge) but it's a long walk. Another option is the light rail, which is very close to the hotel. There is a small convenience store nearby the hotel. There is a Coles supermarket about 5 minutes walk. The street is not too busy; there is no pull-in drive for drop off, but there are usually a couple of spots out front. Staff do not offer to call a taxi on departure, or any of the other basic niceties of a half decent hotel.

If you're after a panoramic view of Sydney Harbour from your window, then 1888 is not for you. I didn't spend much time in my room, other than to sleep, so a water view was not a deal-breaker for me. I stayed in a King Deluxe and a Junior Suite during stay, both were fabulous, and very comfy. Plenty of tech in the rooms, big flat screen, iPad, Apple TV, BT speakers, wasted on an analogue guy like me! Good quality toiletries and a nice shower and tub too. Very nice bed, good choice of pillows, so you will find the Goldilocks one for you! I stayed almost two weeks, so definitely made use of the free laundry facilities and the well configured conference room for catching up on homework. The breakfast was continental, pretty simple, but sufficient. All of the staff, including the GM make a terrific coffee and you can choose to have one with sit down breakfast or on the run! If you need a hot and more substantive breakfast there are many great cafes a short walk in any direction. Pre-dinner drinks in the lounge bar is very appealing and the wine list is as good as you will find at many high end restaurants. Last but not least, the staff at 1888 are definitely the point of difference compared to any place I have stayed in Australia. All very individual personalities, engaging and very attentive to a guests whims and needs. If you're a very demanding or needy person, stay home, it won't be fun for anyone! To that end, I'll be back for sure!

We stayed in a loft room over Easter. The location is great, one block walk from the entry to Harbourside Shopping Centre and a few blocks walk from the Star Casino. The loft room was good for a few days stay - gave a bit of seperation between the bedroom and the rest of the room so it felt like a small apartment. The bed was comfortable and the shower was really nice. The "free minibar" was two waters, two soft drinks, two beers and a bottle of wine (so Limited choice) but better than nothing I suppose. The free drink at happy hour in the bar was also a limited choice and the bar snack was the same all weekend (opportunity for improvement there it wouldn't take much). Breakfast was basic and again the menu choices did not change at all over the few days we were there - we know when they ran out of the chutney for the breakfast wrap because they substituted with the very garlicky eggplant dip from happy hour bar snacks which did not work at all. The service was generally friendly. Best thing about this hotel would be the location so if you can get it for a good rate would recommend it, but maybe eat out for breakfast.

We celebrated our 38th(!) wedding anniversary with a stay in a king room on the second floor. Compact, funky and high-end inclusions. Love the use of Who Gives A Crap toilet paper and tissues. Also consci is the use of refillable containers of shampoo, etc. The staff are so lovely and friendly. Free mini-bar! Happy hour (between five and 6 o'clock) includes two complimentary drinks and canapes! The complimentary breakfast is tasty, varied and substantial. Thank you for the late checkout. A great stay!

Great Pyrmont location, convenient to everything, including Harbourside, restaurants, entertainment etc. Just 7 minutes walk to Lyric Theatre and Star City Casino, and close to International Convention Centre. Easy access to nearby ferries and trains, taxis, Uber. Under cover Parking Station (at cost) available opposite hotel which is great if you are from out of town, want to park, and just do your own thing. The Ovolo is rather boutique internally, offering some not so common perks, such as a free bar fridge etc. Stayed in a larger two level loft room, which was comfortable, quiet, and had all usual amenities.
From the outset, were enthusiastically greeted by staff, who were efficiently helpful throughout our stay. The lobby area and nearby bar (and restaurant) are humming socially later in the evening.
Pricing is a little steep compared to other world cities, but what you expect in Sydney, given the many benefits that the location offers. Would definitely stay again.

This hotel is in a prime location with the light rail across the road and it takes less then 5 minutes to walk to darling harbour.
The hotel itself is quirky, cosy and very clean.
The staff are just lovely and make you feel very welcome, nothing is too much to ask for.
We were in a loft room and although it's not huge, it's very clean, well equipped, large bathroom and shower and the bed is super comfy.

Our only negative about the room is that the water pressure in the shower is almost non existent which was quite disappointing after an 18 hour flight, just when you're in need of a nice hot shower on a cold day. The water temp also continuously changes from hot to cold even though the tap handle is still in the same position.

The included continental breakfast had a good selection with a variety of different foods. The coffee was great.

The room also included a free mini bar which included 2 types of beer, a small bottle of red and white wine, cans of coke, bottled still and sparkling water and milk which was restocked daily.

There is also a free sweets bar near the reception for all you sweet tooth lovers out there to help yourselves to.

Overall, the experience here has been wonderful.

Highly recommend this hotel. It has a quirky industrial chic décor combined with historic features, but most of all it has a friendly relaxing ambiance.
Our king size room was quite small but furnished in a way that you'd still want to spend time in your room (and maybe make your way through the free mini bar?) Loved the bathroom products too.
Ovolo 1888 has such an inviting lobby I felt I could sit there for hours.
The location in Pyrmont is a little awkward for driving access but there is a good parking arrangement in the carpark across the road.
We'll be back!
