Detailed Reviews
Hotels in Canberra are always expensive during sitting weeks but on our most recent stay prices were hideously expensive. So we cast a broader net looking for an affordable option and came up with this little gem.
The frond desk staff were wonderful and helpful with dining options. The room was a comfortable size, modern and spotlessly clean The bathroom is quite tiny but is functional with modern fittings and excellent water pressure.
The hotel is located in a very quiet area, although some clowns set off a fire alarm at 1am when they chose to smoke in their room. It is a 10or so minute walk to the Ainslie Football Club and also the Ainslie shops where there is a number of eating options.
All in all we had a very pleasant stay and will happily return.

We enjoyed the quiet location of this hotel. There was good sound proofing when the door was closed. The rooms were clean and the front office staff were very friendly. One of the negatives is that the room we were in had no opening windows. I was hot and stuffy and we had to keep the air conditioning up high during the night to feel comfortable. When we got back to our room at the end of the day we walked into a hot box and had to leave the door open for a couple of hours and run the aircon to cool it. For an extra small sum under $10 we could dine on a buffet breakfast with a good selection of food, including gluten free options. Overall it was the reasonably priced for a last minute booking. The beds were comfortable. The shower took at least a minute to heat up and there was a strange smell coming out of the drain.
The parking was excellent.

It is in a quiet location only 5 mins away from Dickson place (useful if you need to get food or groceries). It is also only around 10-15 mins away from the sights like the parliament house and such.
However, it is currently understaffed so housekeeping could get delayed. There is also nobody manning the reception area at certain hours (nobody answering calls to reception as well). There is also no breakfast available because the bistro is closed indefinitely .
The area where it is situated also seems to be a housing commission. It didn't bother us at all though.

On arrival the place looked grim from the outside so was very concerned about inside.
This lived up to my expectations! Tired and run down. The carpets in reception, up the staircase and along the corridor to our room needed a good hoover and skirting boards needed a good wipe.
I asked for a nice room as we had been travelling and were tired!
Oh dear, the carpet was so stained in our room we didn't take off our sandals. We had a huge chunk of plaster out of the wall. The sink in the bathroom had a massive brown crack in it, the edge of the bath hadn't been wiped in years. The room was beyond tired... And this was one of their nicer rooms on request!
Bad nights sleep as the hotel plumbing seemed to run through our room, the noise of showering and flushing along with slamming doors was very disturbing.
From what I could see this was more of a workers place to stay rather than a place for visitors sightseeing in Canberra.
Very very disappointed, would not recommend to anyone this Ibis needs full refurbishment and updating also maybe a housekeeping team/management that care!

I stayed here with my Mum a nice girls weekend away. I was thrilled to have been able to donate plasma in the morning and get a tattoo in the afternoon before spending the night on Lonsdale St with a friend; with the War Memorial in the middle of the day! This is relevant because the motel's location made it perfect for ducking back and forth, quickly and easily. Nice and quite for the most part! Bathroom is far too small and fridge is in dumb place as you could easily knock someone out with the bathroom door if they're in the fridge. The lighting needs improvement and some extra powerpoints would be great as there is none near the single bed. Curtains in the room were threadbare and a lot of light came in the morning. Otherwise it was clean and comfy; a good cheap motel for 1 night.

I thought I found a bargain but then discovered that the prices were in the wrong currency - it’s as expensive as some of the places on Northbourne Ave. They cheaped out in some strange ways - just two thin cold blankets (best to leave the heating on all night in a Canberra winter), no soap, very inconsistent wifi, short reception hours - but otherwise it was good. Clean modern room with a couch, small but decent bathroom, quiet location but close to Ainslie shops, good staff. Just rather overpriced.

We have stayed at this motel several times both in a standard and executive room. This visit has us doubting we will return despite the great location for us. We booked a standard room through Booking.com and requested upstairs if possible. (we usually book direct) On checking in we were given room 261, at the far end of the complex and were cheerfully told this was an upgrade to an executive room. Having stayed in executive rooms, this room was surely no upgrade and in fact not as good as the standard rooms we have previously had.
No windows or any outlook or balcony, just glass bricks. Only one bedside table (we improvised with a chair). An additional single bed which we didn’t need or ask for. No sofa as advertised for the booked standard room. Useless WiFi, to get any reception we had to stand outside the room. WiFi has always been a tolerated problem at this motel but this was really bad.
Also when we have stayed here pre-covid, the standard rooms were around $130 and the executive $140. Now a standard room is $189 which is really an excessive price hike even over a couple of years.
Having said all that, the room was clean the bed very comfortable. The shower was good and a real plus was the ceiling heater in the bathroom.

Dear Wendy B, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay.. I'm sorry you did not enjoy the stay this time around. I have checked your reservation and you were upgraded from a Standard Queen to a Superior Twin rather than an Executive room, while this does come with the additional single bed you were put into a more spacious room than the Standard you had booked. Again Wendy B I am sorry this stay didn't meet your expectations, we will ensure your next stay is far more enjoyable.

We had a good stay here. Room was spacious and comfortable for 3 of us. Location was best, close to Dickson St and not too far from the CBD.
Small disappointment was we booked for a bed and breakfast room, unfortunately they don't have any breakfast services at the moment due to the current Covid-19 situation. The manager was kind enough for us to get packs of instant cold breakfast however they were not the same as hot breakfast that normally I get from other Accor hotels.

Tall Trees is on a quiet street, out of town, with plenty of off street parking under lovely shady plane trees. The room slept 5 with a set of bunks (a bit squeaky) for the kids. It was spacious and clean with friendly staff and good air conditioning that helped to filter the smoke haze, which wasn't too bad anyway. Although there were plenty of locals wearing masks, it didn't bother us a great deal. We don't all need 5 star and this suited us just fine for the price. Would stay again if I felt inclined to visit Canberra again.

The restaurant has been closed for 2 years, the website says they have breakfast, this is not true, I purposely booked a place with breakfast due to having children. Rooms have 1 small window that only opens 10cm, the non accessible balconies were filled with spiderweb and leaves meaning air flow was dusty. Showers had mold, floors had stains, broken light shades(broken under the bed, with other rubbish), exposed smoke detectors. The location is directly across from rubbish filled front yards. The BBQ was filthy and not suitable for use.
