I’ve given 3 stars as it represents the rank of the hotel it is. 4 stars would mean it’s very good, I just don’t think it hit that mark for us.
Its a nice hotel. Great thing about it is location as only 7-10 min walk from old quarter and right in the centre of everything! Close to shops, bars, cafes etc.
We stayed there twice, first time for a night before Halong Bay cruise (arriving from Nha Trang) and second time for 2 nights after the cruise and before departing to fly home, therefore we stayed in two different rooms so have a good idea :)
First one was a deluxe street view suite, the second one was deluxe street view room (I only have photos of the suite with additional lounging area but poor bath/shower area)
The lobby of the hotel is beautiful. More like a 4 or 5 star hotel. But rooms I must say go more along 3 stars vibe however very nicely decorated and big rooms so good first impression.
Bed big and comfortable but toiletries not really provided, basic shampoo and shower gel, a couple of tea and 2in1 coffee sachets (no sugar) are provided. Air conditioning works well, but WiFi is not great. Hardly connects most of the time, comes and goes. We ended up going down to the lobby each time to look at Google maps or research stuff as in room WiFi was too frustrating and unreliable. Also WiFi is public with no password which isn’t great.
Hotel staff itself is nice but some were more attentive than others.
Breakfast was good, but in comparison to other hotels we stayed in Vietnam it had the smallest selection available.
A few little things to justify 3 star: slippers were provided but only one pair even thought our room was a double one! Shower in each room differ, one was great but the other one was very old with tiny plastic shower head and wobbly bath, bathrobes were provided but slightly worn off as belt was torn in the middle and was about to fall apart.
Our second stay was on 4th floor, same floor house keeping had their store room on , and oh dear at 7am they were loud talking! :) we were waking up at 7 anyway but if you fancied to have a late morning you probably wouldn’t!
But, this hotel was perfect for what we needed in Hanoi, central clean with a good bed (WiFi was a disappointment!).
Would I stay there again? Not sure, I would probably look into maybe what else is there that is similar or higher standard.
However all being said we had a nice stay with no issues, and loved our Vietnam trip as a whole!!

Location is near Old Quarters and the West Lake is within walking distance. Plenty of things to do, dine, and see. Hotel room is smaller compared to elsewhere and bathroom is cramped. Long bath (if there's one in your room) is quite small and high making getting in and out rather difficult. There's no non-slip mat. Buffet breakfast is just so so limited spread of local food. Service wise is average only. If you're concerned with just location this could be a reasonable choice.

The hotel is located in a busy location that has all your needs such as local eats, bia hoi, ATMs, Supermarkets, etc.
It takes about 10-15 minutes to walk to beer street and train street.
The hotel is very clean and the staff are very helpful and friendly.
The decor within our room was slightly dated, but still had charm.
Breakfast was above average standard. Thee coffee and fruit juice wasn't the best. However, the chef in charge of the egg and pho station was doing a great job. There were plenty of choices.
We stayed for 2 nights and would stay here again if visiting Hanoi.

This hotel is the worst I have stayed in Hanoi ... I know it’s low season like really low and they still gave me a room with no window - Ied rather stay in a dorm
Also it’s so loud from the corridor and the AC doesn’t work.
Hotel overall looks dated and aged.
The hotel has no idea what’s going on as they accused me of taking things from the room that were never in the room in the first place. Staff are not friendly.
They didn’t even help me with my bad down the stairs when I left cause they were too busy on their phones.
Terrible place would NEVER recommend.

The hotel is in a good location. It was an easy 15 min walk to the lake area where a lot of attractions are. There is a mini mart on the corner next door which was also handy. All staff at the hotel were very helpful. The rooms were comfortable and clean. Breakfast was also enjoyable. My only negative would be the showers. Both rooms we stayed in the shower head needed replacing. The first was a dribble of water, no spray. The second room on our return, had spray, however it went everywhere as was wide and there was no way to adjust it, water went everywhere. Being in a bath tub, it made it a bit awkward to shower and wash hair.

Friendly and helpful staff, rooms are spacious and very comfortable.
Hotel is handy for all areas of Hanoi and an airport pick up service is also provided.
Breakfast is a buffet, with both English or Asian varieties.
In a city as manic as Hanoi the Chalcedony really is an oasis of calm.

Decent tourist hotel. A little bit dated and needs uplifting of some facilities but overall it's nice and located close to the old quarter with many bars and cafes close by. I stayed 3 different nights in-between various trips - one of the nights in a refurbished room which was much nicer than the old rooms

Great hotel. Clean rooms and good service.
Reception speaks enough English to be able to answer all your questions clearly.
Breakfast on the 15th floor gives a beautiful view. Not too spacious. The music at breakfast is loud.

This hotel is well located near the Old Quarter of Hanoi.
Staff are courteous, friendly and nice.
Rooms are very comfortable and clean and the breakfast is nice. Cereals, bread, croissant, bacon, sausage etc eggs cooked as you like then including omelettes and local and oriental dishes such as rice noodles, soups and fried rice.
The Old Quarter is a short walk away and the beautiful Hoan Kiem Lake a 15 minute walk away.

This hotel is a fair distance from the airport and I'm pretty sure they don't do transfers (infact they don't do much of anything - it's a horrible hotel). You could book transfers through hoppa. Probably about £50 return, or less if you can find a discount code. At the moment CYBER15 takes off 15%. We've always found their service excellent.
Dear Mr. Gene Fechter,
Warmest greeting from Chalcedony Hotel Hanoi.
With regards to your enquiry about transportation above, kindly please be informed that we provide Airport transfer service with 20usd for See Off and 25usd for Pick Up.
Besides, please also be informed that the Bus from the airport would stop at 3 points which are quite far from the hotel ( the nearest one is around 3km to the hotel ) so i think you have to take the taxi to the hotel.
Should you need any further information or any assistance, please feel free to contact me at anytime
Thank you very much for your interest in our hotel.
I look forward to welcoming you soon.
Sincerely,
Nguyen Kien Cuong
Front Office Manager
All, there are I think about 4 rooms with a big balcony for smoking.
But they cost more though...
