Arco Iris means “Rainbow” in Portuguese, and was built on a sprawling, 1.5 acre terraced property which overlooks a seasonal lake. This supplements the water requirements of the surrounding paddy fields. The proximity to the lake and the Zuari, the abundant greenery in and around the property, ensure a picturesque Goan setting throughout the year. The house itself is styled along colonial Portuguese lines with a high plinth, imposing columns, high ceilings and offers excellent natural ventilation throughout the year. It has been restored, true to its heritage and without compromising the modern day amenities that have come to be associated with the changes in lifestyle since the early 19th century.During the restoration process, all efforts were made to preserve the original materials which had originally gone into the construction of the house by using them, at times, for alternate purposes. The end result is a house which reflects a judicious and tasteful blend of the modern and the traditional. With a built up area of around 7,000 sq feet, the house comprises an “entrada” (foyer), “sala” (living room), dining room, four guest bedrooms with attached bathrooms and a fully equipped modern kitchen. Three of the bedrooms open onto private balconies. It also has a “balcao” (balcony) in front and a courtyard at the rear. The “balcao”, is the most social part of the house where any daily activity, be it catching up with neighbours, reading morning newspapers, eating , or just plain lazing can be enjoyed. The “sala” or the high ceilinged living room is reserved for formally receiving and entertaining visitors. The dining room is dominated by the dining table which can comfortably seat 8. All bedrooms have been suitably modified to accommodate attached bathrooms with modern amenities. The bedroom colours have been chosen keeping in mind the colours of the rainbow. There is plenty of space to read in the lounges, the dining room, or outdoors in the verandah.

Having travelled to Goa many times, typically staying at places close to the popular beaches, Arco Iris unveiled a very different and refreshing side of Goa to me. The homestay is run by two wonderful and warm hosts, who are always looking out to make sure you have a very pleasant and memorable experience. The 200 year old Portuguese house been renovated with love and care and the attention to detail is amazing. You could spend days looking around the house, the corridors and rooms marveling at the carefully selected, quaint and colorful artifacts and pictures in every area. The charm of the area is that it is a lush village with many lakes and paddy fields all over. We could go for long relaxing walks, admiring the green all around. For those who want to visit the beaches, there are some not too far way. The food served is simple and wholesome, and a good mix of continental and Indian Cuisine. The hosts know the area so very well, and were able to share some remarkable restaurant recommendations, on the few occasions we wanted to eat out. One of the big benefits of a warm and cozy homestay, is hat the friendly atmosphere the hosts create, fosters casual chats and conversations with other guests who come from a wide variety of interesting backgrounds and this makes for many an enjoyable interlude during one's holiday. All in all, a place I would whole heartedly recommend - whether you are a single traveler, a family or a group who wants to experience Goa in a different way from the beaten track!

What a beautiful house facing a lake. It was a very peaceful and relaxing stay for us. If anyone wants to stay in Goa but away from the beach, this is the place to stay at. Lovely owners and a great help(Ratul) as well. This place is also close to some of the traditional Goan bungalows that you can visit

Everything about my time spent at Arco Iris was amazing. The beautiful house and gardens didn't fail to mesmerise me as I returned to Arco Iris after a couple of years. And everything else was taken care of by our great hosts, and our caretaker who prepared some delicious food for us and made sure we felt as if we were right at home.

This was our third trip to Arco Iris in the past six years. Beni and Ganesh have created a haven in South Goa. Long before workation and slow travel became buzzwords, a stay at Arco was exactly that. If you're looking for an amazing place to slow down, and love off-the-beaten path accommodation, then definitely give Arco Iris a try. Its rooms are quite spacious with high ceilings. The Villa is a restored 250-year-old Portuguese house with history and heritage. The village is about to be declared a Heritage Village as well. What is different here - Early morning walks in the village, birding, hike to the nearby Zuari river. The food is tasty, homecooked with a nice spread. The meals are served in the open and the setting has an endearing charm. All the homestay staff are very well trained polite and non-intrusive. You can have some delightful conversations with Ratul the housekeeper!

We were 7 of us in two cars, a pair of 1.5 year old twins & Pema our 6 year old dog The homestead stands in a couple of acres of property so green & lush, trees and Plants, flowers & fruit …. Wild grass covered grounds…. And the view of a large lake across the gate is so refreshing. The natural ambience is mesmerising. A beautifully restored 200+ years old Goan home in a quiet little village of South Goa. The ceilings are double height, the rooms are beautifully unique with magic in every corner… amazing collection of books & music ….. friendly but non intrusive hosts & a jovial caretaker made our stay beautiful. Freshly cooked homemade food on pre order is available for lunch and dinner. Benita & Ganesh our hosts have travelled the world and have eclectic taste. Would love to go back anytime just to ‘Be’ …. A time & space away from the madness… quiet , restful, peaceful & beautiful. To read… to walk….. to sing…. To sleep….. to Be
