Have recently returned from a two week stay and absolutely blown away by this fantastic hotel. Right from the start with the lovely girl who checked us in, having arrived quite late on the Saturday night the whole stay was great. It was our 25th anniversary, and although we did not publicise the fact beforehand the ladies doing the rooms obviously saw the cards we had taken with us and when we returned to our room after a meal out we were met with a complimentary chocolate cake and a bottle of fizz from the management. Our stay was on a B&B basis and the mountains of food on offer every day meant that we never needed lunch and kept us going until the evening. The rooftop bar is great (although can become expensive if you overdo it!), the spa/pool is excellent and we made regular use of the sauna and pool during our stay to cool down after a day in the sun. We also treated ourselves to a massage in the spa which was so relaxing. The hotel is spotlessly clean too. If you have a car we recommend taking advantage of the reserved parking bays if available- costs €10 a day but it’s worth it as parking can be a bit tight around the hotel. Every member of staff was so friendly without exception, but special mention should be made of Diego in the rooftop bar who makes a mean pina colada and Filipa in the spa who was an absolute delight and a credit to the hotel. Thank you for making our anniversary stay so wonderful! Mark & Michelle

From the second we arrived nothing could have been too much trouble. In fact having stayed all over the world in 100s of hotels from budget to exclusive this hands down wins. The staff are amazing from the cleaners who say hello and smile to front of reception. The absolute stars of the show are the bar and waiting staff who cannot do enough on every level. Without exception they smile, help, offer assistance, chat, are bubbly, fun, professional and relaxed....all al the same time !!! Lessons all over the world could be learned from these mainly young staff. The whole place is spotless and I mean everything. The pool area is relaxed but efficiently run, the salads and snacks are very reasonable , fresh and delicious. Breakfast is a feast of everything you could need or want. From continental to cooked to fruit to pastries to a wide selection of jams, conserves, honey, pancakes with 6 different toppings and homemade Greek yoghurt....fabulous ! The one thing that could be better is the evening meal selection, however when I wasn’t keen on what I had ordered, they removed the whole bill except wine from our bill, including starters and my partners main course. Over the top professional. When there was no cold rose left, they brought me a free glass of wine ! The beach is packed immediately in front of the hotel area. Walk 400 m left it’s deserted with the most amazing beach restaurant serving mind blowing food all day. Ok the sea is cold but that’s portugal, we still dipped on hot days and used the pool if necessary. The spa is gorgeous. Small but perfectly formed and not busy at all. I could go on..... We will be back again next year and I never revisit normally however much I love a place ....that said I couldn’t not come back. In a rod. STUNNING

I spent one week on this hotel. The spa was good and the room cozy. BUT THE BEST: Cocktails and the barmans David and Juao, nice and helpful guyz that really know and love their jobs! Hard to go out from the hotel :)

If I could give this hotel a rating of over 10 I would. We visited from Aug 1-4/19 & we were VERY impressed. We arrived in Monte Gordo without hotel reservations. After checking a few other local hotels we just happened to pass by the Hotel Paiva so we decided to check out one more hotel before making our decision. Boy am I glad we did. Not only was the Hotel Paiva an average of 35euros less expensive than other 3 star hotels, but it was also far nicer than any other we had visited. From the time you walk in the door, the friendly staff made us feel welcome. The lobby is basic but very clean & comfortable. After checking in we were escorted to our room by the hotel owner who could not have been nicer or more accommodating. To be honest, as this was a 3* hotel I was not expecting much of the room. WRONG! The room was spectacular. It was large, up to date, sparkling clean & very well appointed. The bathroom was sufficient including the rainshower fixture in the shower. The beds were comfortable. The view was amazing. We faced the street with a large balcony which had a beautiful view of the mountains that looked amazing at sundown. The room also had a good-sized mini-fridge so we could keep our drinks cool. The beach is a short 5-minute walk. A multitude of restaurants & shops are just outside the door. Parking is available but limited. The hotel has reserved spots for guests so no need to worry about paying for overnight parking. I can't tell you how absolutely impressed I was with this hotel & it was a complete accident that we came upon it. If you're going to Monte Gordo don't even bother looking at other hotels. The Hotel Paiva is exactly what you're looking for. We will definitely be back.

This hotel was a 2 minute walk from ours and we spotted it had a roof top bar which is open to anyone. The bar person was extremely friendly and chatty. He gave us complimentary nuts too. Drinks were a little bit more expensive than in the bars but I suppose you are paying for the views. €6.50 for a large and small beer.

We have booked half board does this mean buffet choice only or can we order from the menu?
Hi! You have at least 2 choices of mains in the daily dinner buffet. If you would like alternative main courses, you have a credit to spend towards the A La Carte menu. This is exclusively for the main courses. There's always plenty of salads and other starters to choose from and desserts, fresh fruits, etc. Looking forward to welcome you to our Hotel. Kind regards, Joao Galhardo F&B Director

The barking dogs chase them all away. I saw no cats in the hotel, did see them in adjacent houses.

What’s the Happy Hour deal?
The happy hour depends on the bar, some will give 2 drinks for the price of one, or else they will reduce the price of drink for a centain period, a happy hour in some bars last all day!!
