There aren’t enough words to say how incredibly special this place is. The setting in the Douro is spectacular with terrific views of the vineyards (which our room had—we were also in the newer section which is to die for). The deck was drop dead gorgeous—huge with a wonderful seating area and table for 6. We stayed in a Vineyard Premiere room, which was the best. We came from Porto, an easy 1 hour drive. The room was perfectly decorated and so zen. The bathroom was huge and drop dead gorgeous with an incredible rain shower. Breakfast there was wonderful. Do not miss this hotel if you’re anywhere near the area.

What a nice experience in Douro at Six Senses hotel!!! Everything was very nice, since when you arrive there, the receptivity from the valet, front desk in specially Tiago, restaurant it’s incredibly. The price is not so cheap but, every penny paid worth the experience!! It’s simply amazing!! They serve a very taste food in which I have tasted breakfast and dinner.

We had some sort of apprehension before going to Six Senses Douro Valley: we had been twice to Six Senses resorts before, both in Asia (and now both ranking at the very top of our list of favourite hotels ever) and we wondering whether a Six Senses in Europe would be as good as those. And the short answer is: yes, totally! Six Senses Douro Valley did not disappoint us at all. Fantastic 5-night stay. The same focus on health and sustainability as in other Six Senses but here with a wine focus (logical given the surroundings!). Beautiful building, nice views, great activities (even I enjoyed the yoga and we tried tai-chi for the first time), comfortable rooms, beautiful swimming pools (+ fantastic spa and massage), great food (from a healthy breakfast to creative cooking at dinner) and wine ... but above all a fantastic service - both extremely professional and friendly/relaxed. I truly enjoyed the private wine tasting with Fabio on the terrace: nice way to discover new wines from all over Portugal. All the staff were actually great. Six Senses Douro Valley would deserve a 6-star rating if this could exist.

I stayed here for 5 nights and had an extraordinary experience. I came here to be close to nature and to relax and I must say it met all my expectations. Service was top notch -- from the driver Carlos who picked me up in Porto, to reception, to housekeeping, to the restaurants staff and Chef Nuno, and to the spa team and visiting practitioner John. The grounds of the hotel is very well maintained and peaceful - I ended up taking daily forest walks. I liked the pods found in the grounds which is perfect for quiet solitude and meditation. The food, for both breakfast and dinner, is excellent and had a wide variety. I enjoyed the daily detox juices offered at breakfast. I also did the Chef's Table for one dinner and it was an experience in itself! I did two treatments with the visiting practitioner and attended one of the yoga classes and it was great. I would definitely come back!

Is there a six star rating available? Seriously, the six senses also deserves six stars. This was one of the best stays at a hotel I’ve ever had, from every facet, to the service, the quality of the rooms, and the dining is all perfect. The Douro is also a magical place and the six senses is ideally situated to let one feel like they are living amongst the vineyards for the time they are here. With local dining, an emphasis on the local wine, and local materials in the design, it all works. Special shout-out to Julio (sp) - who led us in a private wine tasting on the first day, and continuously interacted with us throughout our entire stay - we really enjoyed his knowledge of the local area and Douro wines. I would recommend making reservations early in the main dining room, and anywhere else you would like to eat, as things do book up quickly. Also would recommend the wine tastings on-site, they do a great job of explaining the wines, giving time for the tasting, notebooks, it’s very well done.
