Skegness is where the Butlin’s story began. Situated on the Lincolnshire Coast, next to a Blue Flag beach, the seaside resort is within easy reach of the Midlands and northern regions, and offers a variety of indoor and outdoor activities. Its huge pool features nearly 3000 square metres of fun, with high-speed flumes and a dizzying vortex slide. As part of a transformative investment project, our first-ever resort has some exciting developments coming in 2023, including our SKYPARK playground and a new-look fairground.

Butlin's Skegness Resort garners mixed reviews, with guests applauding its vibrant atmosphere and convenient location near attractions, yet many find the noise levels at night disruptive. While the service receives both commendation for friendliness and criticism for disorganization, the value proposition disappoints, with reports of high costs not matching the quality of stay. Amenities are generally appreciated, though calls for room refurbishments and improved cleanliness are recurrent themes among travelers' feedback.

Accommodation
Stayed in the lodges which were slightly expensive but beautifully decorated and well equipped. Arrived whilst they were still being ‘cleaned’ so off we went to the tent, on our return to bring our luggage in we found that nothing much had actually been cleaned. Floors were sticky, kickboard had fallen off the kitchen cabinets, crumbs still left in cupboards, windows not cleaned and some of the patio door was hanging off. Beds were comfortable but they creek if you look at them the wrong way. Neither of us dared move during the night so we didn’t wake the other.

Entertainment
Booked to see Stephen mullhern (won’t be doing that again in a hurry) the centre stage kids shows were good. Fairground rides were good for my 4 and 1 year old especially the younger rides.

Food
We decided to eat out the nights we were staying so first night was papa johns, service was horrendous in here, the server was incredibly rude and got the order wrong several times. It definitely wasn’t worth the cost that it came to
Second night was The Diner, friendly staff that couldn’t do enough for you, food was ok all ordered steak and then 2 kids meals. Desserts were extremely small.
The final night we paid to eat in The Yacht Club, if you have paid for the premium package so that all your meals are here i would urge you to reconsider.
Plates were cold as was the food, little to no options available - this was between the yacht club and the deck. Veg and potatoes all frozen I’m guessing the desserts were too. My children are not fussy eaters but they refused to eat the food in here. I did speak to the manager in the end as the bill was £88 without drinks and none of us had eaten anything. She did offer to refund us or to come back in the morning for breakfast on them which I declined as I didn’t have much hope for that either.

Swimming
We didn’t stay long in as the queues for slides were ridiculous and my one year old was getting fed up in the small pool as there wasn’t much for him to do

We did enjoy ourselves but that was down to us as a family. I feel for what we paid for the week even though we stayed in the lodges was very overpriced. Will we return? Not for the price and cleanliness of it all

This was our 5th visit to Butlin’s as a family of 5. We always choose a gold apartment and premium dining.

The food with the premium dining plan as always was fantastic and is a highlight of our stay. Different food themes each evening and we’ve never had a cold meal or lack of choice as some reviewers have stated. Special mention to Wieslaw in the Yacht Club, he is always cheerful and we love chatting with him.

The apartment wasn’t very clean. The apartments seem to have been getting dirtier with each stay. The surroundings for the gold apartments are beautiful however and walking to the Pavilion is a pleasure because of the cared for gardens and surroundings. Sadly it’s the apartments themselves that are in need of refurbishment. Carpets are stained, skirting boards dusty, mouldy window frames and bathroom etc. personally I’d prefer to see hard floors that can be mopped and are generally more hygienic. Carpets are never going to stay clean when most guests won’t look after the apartment by taking shoes off etc. the kitchen units are very dated and tired also. Our fridge had a terrible smell coming from it that filled the apartment. It turned out to be the drain on the fridge. The cleaners clearly aren’t cleaning very much of anything. Maybe they don’t have enough time, underpaid? Either way it’s a crucial and critical element and it should be getting a higher priority from Butlin’s. The dated apartments are easier to forgive if they are at least immaculate.

The entertainment as always was brilliant. We couldn’t book the times we wanted as there wasn’t space according to the app but we turned up and there was plenty of space. Worth noting for anyone who thinks they have to miss a show because the app says it’s booked up. The new circus was amazing and we were genuinely on the edge of our seats with some of the stunts.

The swimming pool was closed for repair but we were able to use the flumes and rapids which was fantastic. To be honest they’re the main things we use anyway. Again the swimming sessions showed as booked up on the app but we turned up after everyone had gone in and there was room for us. Thanks to the very friendly and accommodating lifeguards on reception, we really appreciated it.

There are smoking areas outdoors but sadly some guests wander round smoking wherever they want which is pretty unpleasant especially when it’s not always just cigarettes that are being smoked.

We were sad to go home but we’re already planning our next trip to Butlin’s Skegness. It’s not perfect, mainly because of the cleanliness and tiredness of the accommodation but we love going and the value for money can’t be beaten in my opinion if you make the most of everything that is available.

Butlin’s is very family friendly and has some activity’s that is included such as the fair and swimming. Swimming is good, the slides are great and there’s a pool for everyone.

The accommodation NEEDS improvement, we have stayed in sliver and gold and there’s not much difference, in the gold room, last year the carpet was dirty and the sofas had stains on them! You did get towels and promise house keeping but you never see them.

The sliver rooms are basically standard, this time we found mold near the bed, no wardrobe doors attached, and the another door left unlocked leading to another room behind us. There was toys that had been left under the bed and bits of food from the previous holiday makers
The cleaners need to clean them in more depth and some need updating.

The dom also needs a update, it’s been the same since it first opened, it now had thick black dust hanging from the ceiling and unfinished work that they had originally planned to put up and paint but haven't.

The food

The only food avalible if you don’t have a dinning plan is Burger King or Costa.
There is 2/3 restaurants and “the supermarket” shop which is very overpriced and always busy.

We had premium dinning and ate in the deck, the staff was friendly but had the same food all week, the dinners wasn’t anything to shout about it was like school dinner with frozen veg and cheap gravy. There’s no mint or apple sauce.

The desserts was the same since last year, you had an option for cheesecake on lemon, red velvet or chocolate very night or ice cream with the occasional stick toffee pudding

The shows was the same, the circus was good really enjoyed that, it was very entertaining and so was 360 all stars but apart from that it was the same cast with same songs (abba) which was the only sound track Butlin’s seemed to know.

Steven mulhurn didn’t have much magic he used other staff members involved to waste time. The guy at the bowling center had more magic tricks when trying the book us in the play bowling.

This is my personal opinion on my families experience this time at Butlins, you make the holiday your own.

My top three suggestions which need to be updated on the overall resort;

1, Accommodation/Resort - I think Butlin’s needs to bite the bullet and shut down for a month to be able to do up some of these rooms and the resort as a whole is looking tired and dated.
2, Splash Pool - the walk ways become ever so skiddy especially when people are walking on them with outdoor shoes on may this needs to be policed more for people wear shoes on pool side.
3, The WiFi signal - yes I know you don’t come on holiday to use the WiFi but this time the signal was pants

My family and I was on a 7 day break with Butlins which was the Monday to Monday and here is my overall take being here this time round;

Accommodation
We stayed in the standard apartments where the hire shop is the accommodation itself was brilliant you have loads of room given a cupboard to hang your coats if needed which had a iron and ironing board in, we were given a bath mat but no towels as this room didn’t get that option glad I remembered to bring my own, there is a clothes horse provided yes it is flimsy but if you position it okay outside it will stand up on its own. The bathroom/shower room was clean and tidy was on the small side but you work with what you’ve got, the bedrooms were clean and tidy my overall gripe was the mattress but it’s a personal preference as I have a bad back it’s always hit and miss for me with the beds at Butlins this time I’ve take the hit I could of phoned guest services to have it changed but chances are I could have one which may be even worse so I left it. I think the whole room could do with an upgrade to be honest as the paint work could do with a refresh and so could the bathroom.
Coral Beach Restaurant
We had the food court option there was plenty of food with lots of choice, even after half past five the staff was still bringing out fresh food, if anything wasn’t there all you needed to do was ask and they would sort it for you.
Splash Swimming Pool
Yes it’s all back hope except they have taken out the volcano and the cave underneath, the pools were clean and tidy but the changing rooms were skiddy when walking bear foot. But it was good to be back using all of the pools again.
Skyline
Seemed cleaner within the first four days of our break but during the weekend it was a tip, we always clear off our rubbish so the table is clean for the next family to but some tables were left with lots of rubbish and food all over the place which really bought the place down. The toilets were clean most days but the smell wasn’t pleasant to be honest.
The fish and chip shop and Burger King prices were expensive this time round I found costa coffee seemed to keep the same sort of prices.
Entertainment
The shows we seen were the Stephen Mulhern one, skyline gang, the peppa pig shows, this years panto Jack and the bean stalk, festivals rock, royal rhapsody, billy and Bonnie’s once a upon and time, electric wonderland. They were all brilliant and kept my little girl entertained. Everyone in my group loved Royal Rhapsody and the masked singer well worth going to see these.
Arcades
This was abit expensive as it was mostly £2 for the ride ons, it wasn’t easy to win the toys in the claw machine without chucking a load of money in first. It seemed you needed a high number of tickets to win the bigger prizes, not easy to do if you haven’t got a lot of money, I seen some children look deflated at not being able to get the prizes they wanted.
Fairground
Two of the rides were completely out of action they were the Waltzes and Orbiter as they machines looked like parts were take out of them I don’t think they will be repaired this side of Christmas, and I am in doubt that anyone was working on them during our break either.
Venues
Skyline - apart from rubbishing being left on tables by other guest not clearing up after themselves I could say this was clean and tidy during most aspects of our break, the toilets were clean but the smell wasn’t pleasant.
Studio 36 - every time we came in here never had a problem clean tidy and the toilets were a lot better than the skyline.
Reds - we didn’t use this venue as the it was always full when we tried.
Centre Stage - always clean and tidy toilets were the same also.
Pantomime
This year is Jack and the Beanstalk this was the first time my daughter actually sat still and she enjoyed it, for the grown ups in my party we felt that the jokes didn’t land when they were supposed to and it fell on deaf ears, hoping the new pantomime for next year is better.
Red Coats
Have the number of Red Coats been reduced this break? as we hardly seen any of them walking round and Interacting with people on site like they used to, the only time they came out when they were doing shows this was very noticeable.

I think that sums up my family’s yearly break, it was one of our better breaks and we have booked again for next year.

This is the first time we have been to Skegness came for the 80s weekend two adults it cost us £564 for a silver room and premium dining.
It’s way over priced for what it is. Basically we paid over £400 for the room the standard of cleaning for this price was disgusting.
The location was great and we had decent neighbours as we didn’t hear any noise from them but you did get woken by people walking past the accommodation block in the early hours.
The room was a double and a twin room with a bathroom in the middle the shower cubicle is tiny. You get no towels or house keeping included in the stay the bathroom still had the last guest’s pop or blood spots still left on the lower wall where the towel rail is. And foundation or something behind the door and the dust in the bathroom and on the floor was disgusting. Bathrooms should be cleaned properly for hygiene.
The food was fine we did premium dining and the staff were lovely and polite we ended up eating in the smaller restaurant as it was like a free for all in the live cooking restaurant.
Now the 80’s bit I had really big hopes for this and was massively let down it’s basically Dj’s in all the pubs then you might get a couple of 80s singers in some for no more than an hour. It’s so hot in the clubs and it stinks of urine. It could be so much better. Especially with the money they get of guests for these weekends. They should have a dj in the main entrance area then in the other clubs red coats preforming what ever weekend shows then get some tributes in for what ever weekend it is to preform along with some of the original 80s singers and dj’s. Not just two 80’s singers on then just dj’s all night we came home early as it was a massive let down. And that said Sunday night would have been probably a better night.
Obviously it’s cheaper if a lot of people share the room. It was an expensive experience and a let down. I would only return if we could ever get a weekend for £250 as anymore than that it’s a rip off.
But if you don’t mind paying an extreme amount to stay in a dirt room and get smashed go for it you will have a great time

I am a self proclaimed Butlins fan so this review is a tough one to write.
I've been visiting Butlins Skegness for over 10 years and have many happy memories.
The site is really loosing its way and it's not the place it used to be. Just returned from our break.. .

The site is looking tired, the 'older' accommodation which is now names comfort and comfort plus (silver and gold) are dirty from top to bottom.
Our accomodation had left over food from the previous guest, stained carpet, moldy shower and rusted radiators. I am sure the cleaning staff clean as much as they can in the time they have, the solution - employ more cleaning staff to enable them to clean to a higher standard, invest in the existing accomodation and not the fancy new caravans.

Communal areas - the skyline tent is dirty, tables are filthy with no staff maintaining cleanliness. There used to be many more visible cleaning staff now that's just not the case. I always take my own wipes and clean down every table I sit at and the wipes are black and covered in dirt. The toilet doors and spaces need a deep clean, it doesn't take much to prioritise this as these are the spaces that people are moving around most of the day.

Venues - the older venues - Reds and Centre Stage are grim - they smell and the toilets need a full replacement.

Premium dining - this is the last time we'll use this facility, again not enough staff so tables are left to pile up on every table, the staff are doing what they can, there just aren't enough staff to go around. I had to ask most meals for something to be topped up such as sauces and syrups - only to be told theyre only able to put one bottle of syrup out and once the marmite runs out there can be no more! Every bowl, plate and cup is left with some residue from the previous guest I picked up 6 plates to find a semi clean one. Every meal is was anxious about eating as I was worried about the spread of germs, there is no health and safety precautions such as hand sanitising or limiting guests touching food. It's no wonder norovrius is rife. The dishes such a curry or lasagna missed the all important meat element, a bid to cut costs I am sure but the quality and choice have declined and it's no longer worth this expense.

Fairground - most days at least 3 - 4 rides were non operational, another 'free' benefit that is no longer worth it. The waltzers having been working for some time and a lot are down due to 'essential' maintenance. Butlins have now conveniently added a clause into the booking so they're well within their rights to not have all rides working!

The redcoats work really hard but again so many less of them and less visible - they're clearly stretched and pull from pillar to post.

I am so so sad that Butlins have squeezed the staffing on site at the detriment of the visitors experience. Hire more cleaners and give them more time to clean both in the accomodation and communal spaces. Hire more redcoats - this is a highlight for many visitors. Refurbish older venues and accomodation and stop focusing on new and shiny things!

Booked the lodge - I’d give this 5 star as it’s the best and cleanest accommodation you can get in a nicer part of the park which isn’t overly crowded - housekeeping however - only came 1 time in the 5 days - took the bin and change towels, no vacuuming or giving showers a wipe

The premium dining is not premium at all - the food tasted like 1980s school canteen, meat dry, everything over cooked and nothing tasted decent ale felt the gravy!
Had a great Philly cheese steak at the diner that I paid for tho

The reason for the massive mark down is the lack of staff and the general run down nature of all the venues

The park was full to capacity and there was a 20- 45min wait at the bar for drinks in some venues

If you use the BServe like I tried to - again 30 min wait for 1 drink
This was the same everywhere - not enough staff behind bars, behind food counters, behind the restaurants - all missed revenue opportunities - there was over 30 of us from different families and we often went long periods without drinks
Happy to have spent more but just couldn’t
So we would go away from the venues and just chill at the lodges with drinks and snacks from the local grocery store

The venues - all closed early - like last night everything shut for 11pm - crazy - capacity holiday park, people wanting to spend money but physically cannot

Each area you go in to is run down, from half baked attempts to do temp fixes (which turn out to be permanent) to just basics missed completely

Really poor experience and not somewhere I’ll bother to come back to

Rather go somewhere that wants to provide a service and take my money

Went for the 2000 weekend theme, heard all these stories about how run down the place is thought I’d give my own opinion and they were right!

We had a 2 bedroom dorm, they were good location as they were right by the main areas, first impression was like I had been sent to some sort of camp, old windows not even double glazing and a door that resembled a shed door
Went into the room and the carpet was meant to be blue, was brown, there was mould on the ceiling and on the curtains, and my friend had a bogie on the wall by her bed
Thought oh it’s butlins no point in complaining I don’t think any other rooms get any better
Sleeping in the room was freezing! Windows are that thin the heat escaped, and you can hear word for word everyone says as they walk past, and they build up a lot of condensation through the night as there’s no air vents
Water pressure is terrible felt like I couldn’t have a good clean
No towels provided not even hand towels, knew washing towels weren’t included but didn’t think about hand towels so didn’t take one.

Staff- don’t know where they hired most of the bar staff from..

If you are going it’s definitely worth upgrading to the VIP wristbands for the VIP drinks area and entrances as we did this we still had to wait in ques as for most the VIP bars there was just 1 person serving but they weren’t as long as the normal ques

Staff in the chippy are rude! Call you over to serve you then you start telling them what you want they ignore you turn around and do something else then get funny with you about ordering
Buffet breakfast is decent but it gets very busy in there

If friends didn’t want to see the entertainment on the last night we definitely would have left early
Wish I’d have took more photos

Having attended the 80s Weekenders for over 10 years at Skegness we decided to treat ourselves and totally upgrade our accommodation to a 'lodge' which was considerably more expensive than the gold apartments we usually stay in as they were no longer gold class in our opinion, usually dirty, and run down.
The 'lodge' is actually just a static caravan which, although very nice, is just a caravan with paper thin walls and advertised to sleep 6 adults! Not on your nelly!!! There's a double room, a small twin, and a cupboard with 2 small single beds, anyone over 5.5 will struggle!
Just think who you're sharing with before you sign up for these.
They are also a fair walk away from the main areas, and very quiet.
You do loose some of the party vibes when staying there.
The food (we had premium dining as usual) was not great and a lot of it lacked taste. Avoid the Chinese/Indian sections as it's always fairly tasteless.
The amount of live acts has reduced dramatically over the years, and was particularly noticeable this year.
The weekend is what you make it I suppose but standards/quality have definitely fallen whilst the prices have rocketed.
We will be back obviously but the whole thing could do with a shake up and refresh.

The comfort room in starfish quay located on ground floor we stayed was of good and acceptable cleanliness. It’s very near the new Skypark that was open recently and our children definitely loved it.
All the entertainment shows were of top quality as advertised, the food we had from Corach beach restaurant were from the food court plan were of good value for money. We have already booked next year October half term on site as it has extra 10% discount compared to online price.
