Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

The staff here are what carries the hotel, you almost manage to forgive everything because the staff are so helpful and warm. We booked a room (T01) for 3 nights but were so disappointed with it we asked to pay extra for a beach front room. The only availability was for one night so we paid the extra and moved to B08 and the following day back to T01. In this room we found a cockroach in the bathroom, which could be forgiven taking into account the location & climate, but the hairdryer had to be plugged into an area with no mirror, it was located in a hallway and the plug had to be held in to make it work - not really a ‘boutique experience’. The balcony was on its last legs - rusting metal made collapse a distinct possibility!! However, as I said we were made to feel looked after by the amazing staff but really this hotel needs closing during low season and seriously renovating Breakfast was average, fresh fruit was limited - choice of watermelon, pineapple & dragon fruit over 3 mornings, the yogurt was sweetened and the ‘juice’ was squash. Eggs were done 3 ways - sunny side up, scrambled and omelette. And other dishes were luke warm - eggs, bacon, ham and leftover Thai food from the night before. Dinner was a roller coaster - the fried white snapper with green mango salad was amazing, the Jack fish was grey and ‘fishy’ served with the same beautiful salad and we asked for french fries which turned out to be deep frozen crinkle cut fries bought to our table before the main course was ready and then ‘kept warm’ which, of course, meant they were cold Please, Thapwarin, pay attention to detail for the food and accommodation to support the brilliant work done by your staff

My trip to Thapwarin resort was incredible we had such a good time and always felt welcome. The staff are happy to help with anything. The food is amazing. The island and beach looks like a dream, it’s lush! They are a genuine environmentally conscious resort which is great to see as they endeavour to protect the island. Special thanks to Toy and Jay, I enjoyed learning some Thai language with them

Beautiful setting on an idyllic island. The bungalows are made from traditional materials which fit perfectly into the jungle setting. If you need rest and relaxation this is a good choice. The staff are friendly and helpful, the breakfast is not bad. More choice of fresh fruit would be nice. The bungalows are a good size and nicely appointed, cleaned everyday and well maintained. Our only complaint would be beds are hard and pillows could be improved upon but for the rest a great stay. Bring good beach walking shoes as you need to walk along beach at low tide or through some forest paths to get from one place to another here. A good book would be great as not much to do except swim, dive or snorkel. Binoculars would be an asset as so many exquisite birds on the island. A pool on the property would be great.

This hotel is set on the tiniest of Thai islands and offers the peace and quiet that goes alongside this beautiful place. The beach is heavenly and snorkelling is great straight off the beach. We had to get used to high/low tides, makes difference with arriving and leaving as to how wet we got but that worth it for such a beautiful place. Breakfasts were always good, they did me fresh vegetables which were great and the scrambled eggs were amazing.

We have just spent 6 nights at Thapwarin as part of a one month stay in Thailand. I have to say this is the nicest place we’ve had the pleasure of staying at so far. It will be hard to beat! JJ and his wonderful team cannot do enough to make your stay comfortable, nothing appears to be too much trouble. We particularly loved the fact that the Resort is so laid back, all the guests seem positivity laid back and chilled out too. It’s not pretentious in anyway and there’s everything to love about Thapwarin. The bungalows are comfortable, really roomy with good beds, air conditioning, even the flooring is lovely and polished, bungalows have their own outside space for enjoying the beach or jungle views. We were regularly treated to visits from the local wildlife; Hornbills, Monitor Lizards and of course there are hermit crabs scuttling about everywhere. We also loved the food in the restaurant, breakfast was really good and catered well for multiple tastes, but honestly we were really impressed with the quality and freshness of the food, given that we’re on an island too. The Resort also provides free snorkelling equipment and kayaks (unlike some of the other resorts / hotels). We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend and would love to return. Thank you JJ and team for a wonderful stay at Thapwarin.

There have been 2 occasions in my life when I have been genuinely sad to leave a place. This is one of those occasions and as I sit here now, having moved on to a resort in Chiang Mai, I cast my mind back to Thapwarin and Koh Ngai, thinking of the wonderful staff, beach front hut, clear blue waters, evenings spent drinking cocktails and eating great food. I can't thank them enough for their great welcome and hospitality. I will return for more....until next time Thapwarin and Koh Ngai. Big love.

Our visit to Ko Ngai and Thapwarin was part of a much-delayed honeymoon, so our hopes were high. We were looking for somewhere peaceful and welcoming, to fall asleep to the sound of the waves and to wake to a view of the beach and the open sea. We got what we needed! Ko Ngai is mercifully still not too developed and just has a few resorts along the long main beach, with very few large permanent buildings, so as you approach on a longboat you can really take in the beautiful beach and the jungle behind without concrete resorts getting in the way. The sea here is not crowded with boats or people, and there is a long sandy shelf extending several hundred metres which makes the water fairly shallow and colours it a beautiful, soft cyan (which is very photogenic). Thapwarin is towards the northern end of the beach. Staying in a beach front bungalow we were just a few seconds' walk from the water and from the sunbeds, deck chairs and hanging beds laid out a few metres from the waterline. The room was very comfortable, air conditioned, with a lovely open air bathroom. A couple of reviews have said the beds are a bit firm but acknowledged this might be down to personal preference - so, just to balance this out, I can say that we both have back problems and slept better here than anywhere else we had stayed so far. Possibly because we were so relaxed but the bed didn't get in the way! Side note, the WiFi is surprisingly good for somewhere so remote and on the few occasions where it wasn't so great there was also a pretty good 4G (and sometimes even 5G) mobile signal. But sometimes I wished it would cut out so I would have no excuse to do anything but read a book and go swimming... The food at the restaurant was great. After three weeks in Cambodia and Thailand, I didn't feel guilty ordering western food from time to time and the truffle carbonara was very tasty. Equally though, the Massaman, the green curry and everything else we had was excellent as well. There is a good cocktail selection with nice thai twists on some classics. As a bonus, the restaurant is right on the waterfront and has a beautiful view. I don't think any of the other restaurants on the island are this close to the water. Breakfast is a buffet with a reasonable amount of choice, and the chef prepares eggs to order. There are also plenty of day trips that the resort can organize and we saw people go out on these every day. We were quite happy relaxing, reading, going out to the reef for some snorkeling and just generally taking it easy. Finally and most importantly, the staff were all really welcoming and helpful, lovely people, which is what makes a holiday feel truly special.
