Holidays on Koh Ngai.
Very nice little Island with wonderful beach and with several restaurants. One can also take a little stroll in the jungle to get to
'Paradise beach' on the other side of the Island, really worth a visit.
We stayd at the Mayalay Beach resort
between 27/11-9/12 2019 and we had a Wonderful vacation, already longing to return. Cozy bungalows with sea views that lay directly on the fine beach, cleaning every day.
Very nice restaurant whith tables
both in the sand or under the roof.
All The straff who worked at the resort were very hospitable and pleasant.
The Hotel manager Alice and her husband Junior were very nice and helpful.
We can really recommend this resort, we will definitely stay there next time we will visit Koh Ngai.

I have been many place around Thailand and this resort is one of my favorite, In front of resort stunning view and beach quite good and long enough for all of the guest. The hut made from wood and coconut tree and bamboo, which is Thai Culture. Good place for snorkeling and Manager woman is Philippino she helps us a lot for transfer to others place.

This is a fantastic resort. It’s simple but nice and clean. The staff is really friendly and they can speak english. The part of the beach down the resort was the best part of the beach on Koh Ngai. The food was good but the breakfast could offer more option to vegans and vegetarians.

We want to go back!

I really feel that this place has suffered unfairly from a couple of negative reviews. Had I seen these before booking I would have gone elsewhere and missed out on this lovely place.

We had bungalow L01 for our three night stay and while we didn't pay for a beachfront bungalow we still got a sea view . To be honest you are so close to the beach anyway it's hardly worth paying the extra as the rooms are the same.

The rooms do lack a little character but are spacious and clean. The bathroom area is large, private, airy and semi outdoors. We had no issues with bugs as the area is covered by a roof and netted on the sides.

We suffered no noise apart from the odd boat engine. There are no roads so everything happens by boat.

The guy at trang tourism right next to the mayalay is reliable for excursions and private transfers. We had a private boat for snorkeling and a visit to the emerald cave for 2000 baht.

I had spent hours worrying about how to get off the island and get to Krabi airport for a 1600 flight to Chiang Mai. It's possible to do this via speedboat to saladin pier and book a taxi online but looked a bit dodgy time wise if anything went wrong.
We booked a private long-tailed boat and had a taxi waiting for us at pak meng pier organised by trang tourism. This cost us 3200 baht and to my mind was good value for up to four people . We left koh ngai at 11.00 and arrived at Krabi airport at 13.40.
Both times we booked, out boat was waiting for us ahead of time which was comforting.

I hope this helps people to organise their stay as I found this information hard to gather.

I also hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did. For us it is a special island. Not a great deal going on, no party scene , a couples island I suppose but quite idyllic. Service can be slow at times but hey, you're on island time!

- WORST of all: they raise puppies to please tourists, but after they are grown they put them on the streets on the mainland as street dogs. And the puppies are not kept well, they have skin diseases.
- The Wi-Fi did not work for most of 4 days we were there, even though they kept making promises
- The orange juice at breakfast was so bad I had to vomit immediately (the same happened to at least 2 other people)
- We got into a fight with them because 1 person said we could use a special offer (3 days for the price of 2), but MUCH later he came back on it and said it did not apply to us because we booked via Booking.com. Unfortunately, we had then already made a lot of costs for rebooking our flight. In the low season, I would recommend taking the boat there without a reservation and haggle with the different resorts over there.
- We had to pay to rent the snorkel and flippers, which in my opinion should be included
- They did not inform us about all the activities in the area, including a snorkel trip to a SPECTACULAR cave

I stayed in Mayalay Beach Resort for 4 nights during Songkran in April 2017. Compared to other resorts on the island this place was peacefully quiet.
The bungalows are kept clean and tidy with a very spacious and comfortable bed. They offer excurions to the Emerald Cave - I suggest leaving a bit early in order not to arrive with the mass tourism so you can enjoy it - and some snorkeling areas around the small different islands. During this time there were quite a lot of jelly fishes you'll have to watch out for.
The restaurant offered different tasty Thai dishes and also a grill evening.
The staff and service was great at this place. Super friendly and very fun to get to know! Special thanks to Jay, the receptionis, who took care throughout the whole stay, and Tum who always kept his lovely smile and politeness no matter what, and Pat with her entertaining and delightful stories!
I can definitely recommend staying here and will surely come back!

Response from RM M, Manager at Mayalay Beach Resort
Responded 25 Nov 2017
Dear Gmarices, We do appreciate your comments regarding us. Mayalay Beach Resort is a nice and chill place to stay. If you are staying in Seamaya villa's ( beachfront ) you are just few meters away from the beach. Emerald cave is one of the well known tourist spot on this place. It is being visited by other tourist from nearby islands everyday. I will give the compliments to Ms. Jay, she will really take care of the guest specially when they need something and with a cute smile on her face. And also to Ms. Pat... she will not run out of her stories but, she will make you comfortable and happy when you start your conversation with her. Again, thank you for recommending us as a choice for a memorable holiday and please inform us if you decided to visit us again. Sincerely. The Management.

The resort has a laid back feeling, Thai traditional style architecture.
Beachfront (Sea Maya) bungalow guarantees astonishing views. The beach here is probably the best on the whole island, including low tide, when in the other parts of the beach receding water uncovers lots of unpleasant looking rocks. Some nice reef is accessible for snorkeling from the beach for most of the day.
Water is shallow, so probably good for the kids (we don't have any).
Massage although pretty pricey, is defintely worth trying.
The room was spacious, comfy, with big bed, bathroom was clean and roomy (only cold water - whch was surprising given the rates per night in the resort, however we only noticed it because of 2 rainy and windy days, it wasn't an inconvenience when the days were hotter).
The restaurant serves quite tasty, but westernised Thai food. Prices are rather high for Thai standards. Breakfasts are basic but tasty and we never left hungry.
Make sure to visit Emerald Cave on the nearby Koh Mook - amazing scenery!

It is only the second time in 18 years of travel, the we can say we really did not like a hotel, but the hotel grounds, beach and island FANTASTIC. The rooms look big, but have no cupboards, not even a rack or draw and the bathrooms are dated. The breakfast on the one morning was not to bad, but on the next morning consisted of two eggs, three pieces of bacon. No fruit ,yogurt or salad. The milk for the porridge was sour. We had a beach bungalow and a great view. We ate our meals only at Fantasy hotel. The best beach part of Koh Ngai is between Thanya resort and Mayalay resort.

Stayed in seaview bungalow which had a beautiful view. The bungalow had air con, mini bar, but no tv (not that we missed it).

The resort was well maintained and had really friendly staff. Pinky even helped us when we arrived back in koh lanta (even though she had taken the trip as a short break from work).

Resturant food was really nice, if not a little overpriced, however other resturants on island means there is a choice of price brackets.

Sea was lovely to swim in when tide is in, however a lot of coral around when tide is out which makes it difficult. We didnt realise until our last day that you can ask to borrow snorkling gear as fish were just a short swim away.

the mayalay is a nice resort with good value for money. We stayed for days in june, which is the monsoon season. It was very quiet, which was exactly what we were after... don't go there if you like the crowds of phuket or phiphi!
the staff friendly, and relatively helpfull.
The bungalow is nice and clean, pretty big with a good airco and fan and a nice big bad. we slept perfectly in this bad actually, we had our best night in thailand here.
The only thing is the boat transfer... not much transfer in the monsoon seasoon... so the mayalay staff organised a ' private transfer' to the resort, which had also staff, food for the resort and some other random people on board and they charges us 1500 bath, whereas the 'ferry' costs 350 each. Also, don't take a transfer from trang (600) but take a minivan for 60 each to Pakmeng pier.
Food is soso indeed. I do not agree with the negative reviews on tripadvisor, but if you want a party island, do come here, if you want to relax, have a beautiful beach for yourself and live in paradise for a very good price.... get here asap!
We have to say that the Thanya and especially the Coco cottages resorts looked a bit better, but both were closed for maintenance during the low season... if we come back we would try to stay here, although i think the prices are a but higher than in mayalay.
food in tapwarin (same owner as mayalay) was the best of the island (of the open resorts)
the spa is amazing by the way... very nice seafront spa, really the spa of a 5 star resort... 1 hour thai massage (which took 1.5 hours) was 400 bath.

it's a no car, no roads island btw
