Enjoyed 8 days at Hotel Do Mar. Its a minute from the beautiful clean sandy beach. The 70's styled hotel is built into the steep hillside. Access to the floors is therefore split between separate lifts at about floor 5. We found our rooms comfortable with good aircon. The rooms have a cottage style with dark wood windows, blinds, doors and cupboards The en-suite facilities looked relatively new and all functioned well.

We found the hotel staff helpful and attentive. Covid rules were being carefully followed and the place was spotlessly clean. The buffet breakfast room and bar enjoy stunning views across the bay. The hotel garden has mature trees and lawn areas. The pool was clean and well maintained; plenty of sunbeds available. For families there are about 20 steps from the lower lift to the beach. The seafront is mainly pedestrian and level.

Sesimbra is a quiet village. Aside from the excellent beach it has a working fishing harbour and the local restaurants have the freshest fish.
This was a new find for us. Its about 35 minutes from Lisbon. There are some bus services from Sesimbra, but a car will be required to tour the area.

Booked this based on location and price. I was there to do some diving and this hotel was on the doorstep.
Driving to it is not straight forward, especially if you just want to drop someone off. Once inside, reception staff were there to instantly greet me. From other hotels I have stayed in before in Portugal, they just require an ID e.g. your driving licence.. I had 4 forms of ID with me but they insisted they needed my ID number!! I explained to them that British people do not have an ID number. Luckily I remembered my passport number so they accepted that. They then gave me a brief of where everything was.
The hotel itself was clean and tidy. It has an indoor heated pool, great for this time of year, and an outdoor pool. There is a bar with some fantastic views of the beach, especially from it veranda. I'd say this without a doubt is the selling point of the hotel.
Rooms are on 9 floors split into 2 complexes. Therefore you need to take a lift down to floor 5, walk along the corridor to then get into lifts for floors 1 to 5. This also takes you to the beach from where you can exit (reception is top floor where the car park is).
The room was lovely and did the job. Great view from it as well. Minus points, the TV was the size of an i-pad and there was no kettle or tea/coffee.
Bar prices were ok e.g. it was 5.50 euro for a pint of Heineken.
breakfast was a mixture of continental and cooked, but it didn't start until 8am which was a bit of an issue for me having to be at the dive centre by 8:30.
Over all I would happily stay there again at the price I paid. Location is great and views fantastic.

I have not been in this hotel for 30 years so was a bit concerned, but shouldn't be. Although is on the old side, has been improved a little but still very good value for money. Great location, just across from the beach and able to walk to the centre and restaurants very easily.
Staff 5 star, always very helpful. Breakfast was OK, plenty of choice and plentiful.
Always loved the pool, the fact that is a 1.7mt deep pool and 4mt in the middle is great, and because of this is very rarely that there are any kids in the pool at any time.
The bar is also great, good athomosfere and again staff very friendly and helpful.
Although this is a 4 star hotel, you only get Shower gel / shampoo, need to take all other needed things (namely body lotion, demaquiant pack, etc) , there are also no tea or coffee or kettle in the room, but there are glasses. There is a small fridge.
Overall was a great stay, I still recommend this hotel

We have been coming to this hotel every year for the last 2 decades and it had been a marvellous place to stay…had. To be fair, their consistently good views, varied breakfast and helpful pool staff are qualities to celebrate. But there is a vibe of an old giant trading on past glories. The beds are so hard that you have to have very good abs to get up, the paint around the outdoor pool is as crusty as me in the sun after few days and indoor pool has more chemicals in it than Ypres at the height of 1915. Pre-payment for rooms seem a bit of a further punch in the face. The rather dark water coming out of the bath taps are an odd choice of colour. And though we toast to the health of this place in the marvellous bar with terrific bar staff, we can’t help but think that the trading on past glories has finally run out of steam. Now, we might be in the minority as the world’s great and good continue to visit and so they should, but after years of loyal yearly attendance we must doff our cap to time, who is doing a terrific number on a previous titan of Sesimbra, now tired, and even itself desiring a holiday of its own. Hotel do Mar is in a beautiful spot with an ocean view from every room. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The food was excellent, both breakfast and lunch, as well as the cocktails. The hotel offers many amenities including both indoor and outdoor pools, a sauna, pool bar and many more. It’s a perfect spot for a relaxing holiday. One thing that I think could be improved is availability of sockets within the rooms, as the room I stayed in only had one available socket. Other than that, it was an amazing experience.

Hotel do Mar in Sesimbra appears stuck in time, offering a nostalgic charm. The bar terrace provides a beautiful sea view and serves good comfort food like burgers and toasted sandwiches. With direct access to the beach, it's perfect for families. The hotel features both outdoor and indoor pools, as well as table tennis. However, the breakfast is mediocre for a 4-star hotel and could be improved.

Not ideal for young people, no entertainment, no shows, no live music. Located just in front of the ocean, lovely ocean view, good breakfast, friendly front desk staff, but it is not enough to make this property "4 stars hotel" in 2023. As a very experienced traveler, I could say, it is definitely 3 stars quality might be 4 stars 40-50 years ago but not today, not in this century.

Booked using information from their Web site which advertised a la carte menu went down this evening to find buffet style one choice meat one choice fish complained to night reception who stated it had been suspended for groups. And that my travel agent should have informed me. One of the reasons we booked this hotel was its web site advertising wide variety of foods. Stayed on the algarve before the hotel restaurants where superb. So much for believing web sites.

First of all , we are deeply sorry for your displeasure, but our website was not updated about the service “ à la carte”. We work daily to be able to provide an excellent service and we always bet on quality products for the preparation of all the meals served in our restaurant. We regret that we did not meet your expectations, but in fact and based on the comments of other customers, we can see that our restaurant has had a growing affluence and to guarantee a greater diversity of food and still maintain the quality of the food, we decided to create a buffet. We appreciate your words and hope to continue to deserve your preference.

Lovely hotel and staff with great location just a few meters from the beach. The indoor pool needs some improvements and updating, but overall, it is a lovely hotel. The rooms are clean and the hotel bar is lovely. They also do a fantastic breakfast spread which really sets you up for the day.

An extremely well kept , kind of outdated hotel on a perfect location in sezimbra.
It's over 50 years old and it has kept the 70style , which is charming .
Spotless clean , very friendly staff .
Walking distance from the restaurants.
Highly recommended

Dear Ben, I love breakfast at the hotel because of the superb view. Good restaurants and cafes in the village are an easy walk away for anyone that is not mobility impaired. Car rental is advised to explore the region's cliffs like Cape Espichel, beaches like Portinho, the Arrabida national park, the Troia peninsula, the nearest town Setubal (from where ferries to Troia leave), and Lisbon. All these and more are within an easy drive and short driving distance. Sesimbra is a cute but I imagine v crowded village in the summertime (never been in the summer for that reason) so it might be nice to have the freedom to move around a bit.
