Book this accommodation and you will be transported in time with a stone home on a mountain in the 12th Century. The only difference is that once inside you will enjoy the benefits of the modern age with breakfasts that could be for royalty. Tania could give lessons on how to be a hostess for a B&B. The bed was remarkable the living room , the height of comfort. Book this accommodation and you will leave appreciative that you had the good fortune to make the trip to Castelo Rodrigo. ( Also parking is right outside your door.)
We stayed 3 nights in this delightful inn and loved it!!. Tanya our host could not do enough for us. We had the Flamenco room(where you have piped in flamenco music if you wish) and it was spacious and very well appointed. Gorgeous shower and all the amenities. Our host prepared a breakfast each morning that would be fit for royalty. Fresh pastries, smoothies and freshly squeezed orange juice. Coffee to die for. You have to try this place. heaven
A bit tricky to find, because of the quaint and delightful but tricky to manoeuvre 'narrow streets', but what a find. Not much English spoken but not a problem, we have no Portuguese and we managed along just fine over our two night stop. We had booked the Fado room, which turned out to be truly fabulous, comfortable, spacious with many fine touches. The ensuite is super, with both shower and rain shower, and large fluffy white towels, shower gel and shampoo. Breakfast was amazing, continental, fresh bread, olive oil bread you must try, ham and cheese so nicely presented, home made jams and yogurt, freshly squeezed orange juice, and fresh fruit. So much delicious fresh food. Everything about this recently refurbished establishment has so many nice touches, the decor and furnishings, someone has some great taste. Situated in the small village of only 60 inhabitants, with only a cafe, (and a small shop/bar where we only had a beer) the cafe is basic, limited menu, but honest down to earth hosts. We actually ate lunch and returned for evening meal and a bottle of wine, most enjoyable thanks to the hosts. The castle ruins are also worth a visit. Most likely a choice of restaurants in town if you wish to venture back down. On return to Casa de amondeoeira for an evening drink in the most delightful upstairs terrace setting, we had a chat with other guests and enjoyed a most tasty local port. Overall a most thoroughly enjoyable experience. You will be truly well looked after by the host here who does all she can to make you feel welcome. …
My husband and I recently spent 2 nights at Casa da Amendoeira and can say that it met all of our expectations. It is more a B & B than hotel - quite old on the outside, but thoroughly and thoughtfully renovated on the inside. Our spotless room (Basa Nova) was average sized with a good, firm bed, large closet and small but very functional bathroom. Water pressure was great. Breakfast, served in home’s the dining room was excellent, with many options, most homemade (cakes, jams, fresh juices...). Tania made sure that we had everything that we needed and gave us a good dinner recommendation in the town beneath the castle. Overall, a very good experience and would recommend to others.
From the natural environment, on top of the hill, right next to the old palace' ruins, to the house, everything feels magical. The house was fully restored, has an almond tree in front of its entrance, has modern and musically decorated rooms, with the owner's personal taste in every detail. The breakfast is a cherry on top the cake! A must try! Highly recommended. 75€/night/ 2 guests
