Nestled in a scenic location, Tangalooma Island Resort offers stunning natural views that guests frequently admire. While the resort's atmosphere is considered by some to be outdated, its cleanliness and spaciousness are well-regarded. The beach and activities on offer are popular, though calls for facility improvements, particularly the pool, are noted. Service receives mixed reviews, with commendations for staff friendliness but criticisms over inconsistency. Room opinions vary, pointing to a need for updates and quieter environs. Many reviewers consider the dining and activities to be pricey, with room for enhancement in quality and options.

We stayed at Tangalooma Resort for 3 nights. And wow what an experience. There is only one small complaint - And it is about the upkeep of the room - was very disappointing to walk into the room and the floor hadn’t been cleaned at all. There was sand completely throughout it and also on the couch. I had to sweep it out which was just annoying for the amount we paid it should have been vacuumed. Also there was myself and my son and his bed only had a bottom sheet on it, there was nothing else. I had to strip the top sheet off my bed and then make his bed with a pillow and a blanket which were also missing. Cleaners just need to be given a heads up to be a lot more thorough as other guests may try and get their $ back if it’s not up to standard. Aside from that, everything was incredible. The jet boat and the desert safari/sand tobogganing were fantastic. The staff were lovely, happy, helpful, kind and patient. Jason on the Desert Safari was extremely knowledgeable and we enjoyed every moment, even that climb up to the top which was a killer. The lightning ridge and looking at the different sand was a definite highlight too. A big thank you to him but also to Chris on the jet boat. That was super fun and loved the adrenaline, great to see someone so passionate about it. Also for him to calmly disperse a vomit bag to my son and take it a little slower just for him really was exceptional...luckily it was at the end so the other customers weren’t put out!!!! The kookaburra feeding and the pelican feeding was equally as informative and staff excellent.

Also the beaches and the food areas were just immaculate.

Very, very happy with our stay and look forward to coming back again.

I cannot help but feel that this a very overpriced resort for the service offered. The water problem certainly made for difficulty. The fact that we were expected to hand wash all dishes for 12 people for 4 days by hand with bottled water is totally unacceptable. We were provided 3 dishwasher pods and when we requested additional supplies were told to purchase them at the store, when I objected the receptionist said that you are not to use the dishwasher, we chose to use the dishwasher and then rinse with bottled water.

The resort certainly knew when we would arrive, but did not seem to have anything ready for our arrival, and a considerable walk from the boat launch to the reception area and then the wait to get everyone organized and shuttled to the house. Although we prebooked the buggy, it too was another wait.

We were told that there was a store and wine & beer available for sale on the island. Well lucky that we did not rely on the store to feed 12 people for 4 days. If you plan to stay here, plan on taking most of your food as well as beer & wine The store has very little to offer

When we used the pool, there were no pool towels available, reception said they would deliver to our room in 2 hours, this is not acceptable.

Paddle boards, kayaks and non motorized water activities should be available for all guests to use, there should not be a rental fees for these activities.
There were no umbrellas at the beach or even at the pool for sun protection.

This resort is very good for everyone, it has something for everyone whether you want to relax or be active. The rooms are average rooms, we had a family suite, the bathroom design is very strange but we had a fridge, microwave and tea coffee facilities and a frying pan so everything we needed for our 3 days. the room had a double bed in the bedroom with no tv, the lounge room had 2 single beds and a lounge , a dinning table and large tv. you only get 1 towel each any extra towels cost you $5 each, however if you need beach towels you just ask at reception and they will give them to you and add them onto you account for free but you must return them before leaving or you will get charged, you can change them for fresh ones as many times as you want. The restaurants are ok . Activites a bit pricey. 2 Pools if you dont want to go into the beach, beach is clear and you dont have to enter very far to see fish around your feet. great snorkelling. Dolphin feeding ok but you have to book in and the the wait time is quite a while while they set every thing up they take up to 100 people a night to feed the wild dolphins. The desert safari quite fun and toboggaining down the sand hills is great but the walk up not so fun. The food is average, cafe sells all you coffee cake , sausage rolls, ice creams etc. The beach bbq is great the parma is amazing and the serve sizes are HUGE. the beach cafe breakfast is nothing to rave about but the fish and chips from there serve size is big and the food ok. Overall great place to wind down in the sun.

If you have a family and a ton of disposable income (seriously, this place is EXPENSIVE) there's heaps of fun to be had. If you're a couple looking for a nice relaxing getaway; forget about it. You'll be bored, annoyed by the 24/7 drunk bogans, and probably broke, by day 2.

Stayed in the Standard Beachfront Villa. Very run down, was no where near as new or well maintained as the ones in the photos. Cockroaches in some of the rooms. Terrible natural lighting, was like staying in a cave. The fly screens were damaged and bent, woke up with mozzie bites every morning. We couldn't lock our front security door rendering it pointless, and not because it was broken - we weren't given a key for it. There was also a hole in the fabric screen where someone has tried to break in at some point in the past.

Absolute bare minimum of facilities. Photos on the website showed a gas BBQ fixed to the balcony, opened up and clearly implying availability for use, but in reality the BBQ was padlocked shut. When I asked about it, turned out the villa's owner "didn't like people using it". We had to use the neighbouring villa's hose to wash our sand off because our outdoor tap was just totally shut off. Kitchen equipment was missing. Range hood over the gas stove was completely broken and inoperable.

The management try to charge you for EVERYTHING, there's even a fee for not putting the dishes away in the correct cupboards when you leave. The Villas are technically smoking rooms, despite the resort's blanket "no smoking in the rooms or resort" policy. My partner being an asthmatic was having issues with all the 2nd hand smoke coming from other Villa's, so we asked if we could move to another Villa to try get away from it. They wanted to charge us $200, and even after escalating the issue to the resort's on-site executive manager, they couldn't give us a reason why they needed $200.

This was my third and last time coming to Tangalooma. What a disappointment. For almost 2 grand I could have got something A LOT nicer that was actually constructed within this decade. If you really must visit this moneypit, book your Villa privately - you get guaranteed facilities and it's cheaper than what the resort charges

Booked 3 nights at Tangalooma Island Resort months in advance and managed to pick dates that co-incided with 3 days of torrential rain.

The island obviously has a lot of natural beauty (although hard to appreciate during 100mm downpours) however there certainly is room for a lot of improvement in the accomodation and in particular the tours offered on the island.

In regards to the room - it was not ready when we arrived and we had to wait a few hours. Killed some time at the cafe where we were overcharged. Staff did arrange a refund of the overcharged amount which took a few days to go back onto my credit card.

The island didn’t appear to be booked out, staff were saying it was fairly quiet due to Chinese tourists not travelling during Coronavirus problems. We were given a room in B block and had what appeared to be staff or workers on the island accommodated in rooms either side of us. One side blasting a commercial radio station at high volumes, the other side with racing radio station on loud, sitting outside the room smoking and drinking. The room was fairly basic, sound proofing obviously an issue. On the first night there was a party outside in the basketball court area that was loud and noisy until very late (Tuesday night).

The main disappointment was with Tanga Tours who run day trips on the island. We booked 4 day trip / activities and every single one was cancelled. Not once did staff bother to phone us to tell us they had cancelled. Some were cancelled due to weather conditions, one was cancelled due to not having “minimum numbers” required to run the trip. It’s not hard to ring or message a customer if a tour is cancelled!

The island appears to claim to be eco-friendly, however plastic bottles and coffee were all served in single use containers, and there appeared to be no recycling bins anywhere.

Would consider going back to snorkel the shipwreck area, however wouldn’t bother staying at the resort unless they lift there game.

The best thing on the island is the Chinese / Japanese restaurant who did serve up excellent meals.

I am sorry to provide negative feedback but after being so grossly disappointed I do feel it is necessary.

Firstly I'll begin with the biggest disappointment, the state of the accomodation. Naturally I understand that you cannot predict poor weather but when being in your room is literally the only thing you can do as a family, I would have a basic expectation of it being clean. Particularly at the premium price that is paid. Cobwebs on walls, filthy floors, under the bench in the bathroom and in the shower there was also mould. I feel like this was a significant health risk given the current times we live in and the fact that we also bought a young child who spends a lot of time on the floor. Im not sure if it was food, or vomit or both on the floor but it was honestly disgusting.

I understand that some services are limited by Covid but I would also like to provide feedback on food. 1 form of room service for dinner only, in this era, particularly in wet weather was significantly challenging as a family. We did everything we could to try and keep our family safe and dry but staying dry was not an option. As we were so far away from the food outlets, and there was no option to stay dry, we spent the entire weekend wet, cold and miserable.

We attempted to purchase at least an umbrella, this was not available on the island. We found out reception had umbrellas, as we were leaving.

The food was of very poor standard. The sandwiches were dry and at least one day old. And the prices are ludicrous. 80 dollars for breakfast and my son and husband didnt even get a drink?

My last point of feedback is that tangalooma have to do something for wet weather contingency. I notice theyve been receiving the same feedback on trip advisor and all sorts for years but have made no improvements. We literally paid $608 to come and watch movies on the chromecast I packed (thank god) after paying an additional $30 to access internet.

Honestly, I feel like I should have opened my purse and put $1000 in the bin. We have stayed in hundreds of hotels cabins even caravans around the country and this is the dirtiest, most overpriced "resort" we've ever been to. At this stage, we won't be back.

An amazingly place! The resort was great, we had a deluxe room with amazing views and a balcony to enjoy them from. The room was very clean and comfortable, it came with a good sized mini fridge, so we took breakfast and lunch food with us (bbqs are available, take your own equipment to use) and we bought dinner each night. The main resort centre is a bit hit and miss, feels a bit like a canteen and food options are okay. Fire and Stone was a disaster, we gave up waiting for a table after being totally ignored at the front of the line for over 10 mins, the two couples behind us also left.
The beach is magnificent, the water is the colour in the photos. It felt a world away from Brisbane. Can’t wait to return.

We visited with friends in early January and primarily was there as we love the snorkelling. Without a doubt the snorkelling, beaches and overall scenery is extremely impressive! A must see!
However, while we think the location is fantastic, for the money per night you are paying ($300 - standard hotel room), there was no included breakfast and rooms are quite dated now. For $250- $300pn you can get 5 star in Thailand and Bali.
The resort facilities need a lot of work, games area, tennis courts, pools need to be all re done.
Beach bar would be a good inclusion, similar to the Sunset bar at Couran Cove.

We arrived just as a 3 day Bris lockdown was announced & we’re So happy that we decided to stay. Our room in the E block was beautifully renovated with comfy bedding, smart tvs, big comfy dining chairs and stone bench tops. The electric frying pan and convection oven were great to be able to self cater. We took over food in our esky and also ordered from the onsite Beach Café which had generous portions. Renee from reception was amazing and helped us extend our stay as well as making sure we had everything we needed during lockdown. Jacob from reception organised a DVD player to be brought up to our room when I mentioned that we had brought DVDs from home! The resort itself is very well maintained and the staff made the most of lockdown to clean and do general maintenance. Vero and Marina at the café were patient while our group ordered and made great suggestions of what to order and also recommended some things to see and do on the island which we really appreciated. My 7 yr old LOVED the dolphin feeding and I recommend getting the photo as a souvenir. The on-site shop is well stocked and the prices aren’t too bad for a resort shop. We’ll definitely be back!

Stayed Mar 2021, paid $239 per night for an un-serviced room only; included ferry transfers for 4 nights
Moreton Island is a beautiful place, however the resort leaves a lot to be desired.
Bland tied average appointed room with not many nice homely touches
Its a beautiful view from the resort, the wrecks are amazing to snorkel as well (and free if you have your own gear)
Cant take your own alcohol
You get one set of towels for the whole time you are there & if you want fresh ones you have to pay $5 per towel.
There was a tiny bottle of poor quality washing up liquid & one small sponge to try and keep the unit clean for 4 night's
No proper kitchen, so if you bring your own food its hard work preparing meals
The photo from the dolphin feeding was $25 for one picture !!!.
The activities, food, are well over priced & considering you can't take your own alcohol the cost of it is ridiculous over $40 for 6 light take out beers needless to say we did without

I understand its an island, it's expected things will be more expensive, but we feel they have gone too far ; Its more about the money than providing a nice environment for a well needed holiday even when you are paying top $$ . They can't rely on just the natural environment keeping everyone happy whilst they are in expensive low class accommodation, access to overpriced food, drink, and activities. We defiantly won't be back to the resort, but we will go back to the Island.

Sadly its what’s wrong with the Australian tourism industry; world class destinations, spoiled by very high prices for low quality facilities with lack of extras.

Hi MellieKK - you can find indicative food menus/prices on our website under Resort Info >> Restaurants & Bars. Guests who are staying in accommodation booked directly with the resort can also bring over 1 x cooler/Eskie of supplies on the Tangalooma Passenger ferry as part of their luggage allowance. There is alsp a basic convenience store but given the isolation of the resort the selection is somewhat limited.

B Block is good. Be mindful there are no lifts though and luggage needs to be taken up 1or 2 flights of stairs if you are on the 2nd or 3rd floor. They also have luggage carts around the resort too
