This is a hidden gem in the Daintree area. The accomadation was excellent, clean, private and well maintained. The Open Air bathroom has a vista over the night stars and moon, valley and mountains. Small touches such as hom made soap provided. There is an outside bath facility, a great BBQ if you want to use it and cooking facility. However we opted to sample the local restaurants within a short drive or the local hotel just 6 minutes stroll down the hill
Staying at Wompoo was amazing! They make all the little details to immerse your senses in the rainforest. Home made bath salts for a soak under the stars. Hand made soap too! Freshly picked fruit from the property and other local places. Coffee and local tea from the Daintree. And the view... unreal. Waking up to the birds and light peaking over the mountains was incredible. Finally, they are just great hosts who go out of their way to help us find great activities. They shared a bit about the eco aspect of how the place was built and maintained, which was really interesting to hear. Highly recommended.
Wompoo is very peaceful with beautiful views over the valley and Mt Thornton. I loved the inside/outside bathroom and kitchen and the very comfortable bedroom. It's a great example of eco accommodation and sustainable living. There is no mobile reception or internet but the local pub has phone reception and hosts Jill and Peter have internet that you can use. Loved the plum jam supplied with bread and real butter.
I was looking for a private stay somewhere beautiful, relaxing and private - and I found it! Wompoo Eco Retreat was perfect for my solo trip to FNQ as a break from stressful work and the digital world. I stayed 3 days and wish I’d booked it for my whole stay up north. There are two bungalows situated on a hill with an amazing view of Thornton Peak and surrounded by gardens and forest. I stayed in the Mangosteen bungalow, which was neat, clean and welcoming. The bedroom/living area included a super comfy king bed, small fridge, a cupboard and bench for tableware, and built-in desks. The furniture was all beautiful and natural, in keeping with the earthy architecture. The open air bathroom was spacious and well appointed. The private outdoor bath was an added bonus that I took advantage of after a hot day of walking. Then there was the verandah - so spectacular in the evenings! And barely any mozzies during my stay. The bungalow is also home to lots of cute geckos and there are loads of birds to keep an eye out for. As it’s an eco retreat, there is no air conditioning, only a strong wall mounted fan inside, and a ceiling fan on the verandah. I’m from Melbourne and I found this sufficient, even for evenings of 25-30 degrees. There’s also no mobile reception and you’ll need to walk up to the main homestead for limited wifi access - but if you’re really desperate for internet, there are a few places in the area for mobile reception when you’re out and about. There were also a lot of lovely small touches that made my stay better - local flowers in the room, home made soaps, binoculars, a bird book, plenty of towels and complimentary bread, jams and butter on arrival. Peter and Jill were perfect hosts - welcoming and informative, while respectful of privacy. And to top it all, this is certified eco accommodation built in an environmentally friendly way and encouraging guests to continue sustainable practices while there, without being forceful about it. I will definitely be returning, and recommending to friends and family. Thanks so much Jill and Peter!…
Jill and Peter are the perfect hosts. They have created two cottages with wonderful attention to detail - including one of the best beds that you are ever likely to experience. They are nearby if you need any advice; but never intrusive. They provide an excellent range of local fruits, muesli etc for breakfast. Superb views over Daintree from an elevated position. Wonderful alfresco living, dining and cooking facilities. Remarkable views of the stars at night. A superb semi-open bathroom. All the attractions of the Daintree from a base of Wompoo retreat is just wonderful!
