After lockdown and several planned holidays cancelled as a consequence we decided to take a short break in Gippsland, close to the Prom.
The Church House was brilliant choice for us to unwind and relax.
Mary and Peter and Sidney the standard poodle greeted us warmly on arrival and the house was also very inviting with a very European feel.
First impression was the fabulous views of rolling hills and colourful gardens from wherever we were in the house, then the exquisite collection of paintings, light fittings, furniture, furnishings and ornaments.
The history and building of this “Grand Design” house is fascinating.
There are 3 guest suites, we had the Venetian suite which was comfortable, beautifully decorated and well appointed, with walk-in shower.
7pm canapés, prepared by Mary and Peter, and drinks provided a wonderful opportunity for our hosts, other guests and ourselves to get to know each other better.
The three course dinners prepared and cooked, using their own and local produce, by Peter and Mary were imaginative and delicious.
Breakfast provided every type of cereal imaginable with poached and fresh fruit and fresh fruit juices, variety of teas and espresso coffees. Peters freshly made croissants with Mary’s homemade conserves were “to die for”!
Eggs cooked anyway with bacon, mushrooms, spinach and fresh tomatoes with homemade bread made breakfast a brunch.
We highly recommend The Church House and hope to return.

The house is beautiful and very comfortable . Peter and Mary are amazing hosts and their attention to detail is second to none . They looked after us extremely well and made us feel very much at home, The food and wine were excellent and we enjoyed meeting the other guests at dinner . We also made a new friend , the concierge dog , Sidney that welcome all the guests with joy. We can’t fault anything and will definitely return.

From the moment that we arrived we were warmly welcomed by Peter who ushered us in, made some tea and offered us cake! He then asked us what plans we had whilst we were in the area and gave us some excellent suggestions. The house is stunning, what vision Peter and Mary have had to put it all together.
Our room was the Chinoiserie on the first floor. The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom was very spacious and well equipped. We were supplied with robes, flip flops and plenty of towels. It was quite windy during our stay so didn’t have the chance to sit out on the balcony but the views are great.
We agreed to eat in (there’s not many places around and it would entail quite a drive). Canapés (and there are plenty of them) are served at 7, followed by a 3 course dinner at a communal table with other guests. You will not be hungry! The food is imaginative and well presented using either homegrown or local produce. Peter has an extensive wine list too.
It felt like a dinner party with friends.
Breakfast also features homemade and homegrown produce.
We would happily return to the Church House if in the area again.

We were guests a little while ago and have debated about whether to post this review. However considering the very high price we feel we should alert other guests of short comings at this place.
We stayed 2 nights and on the first night we were given no real choice of main meal. No menu produced , just 'this is what we're cooking, is that ok?'
The next day on our return from a day out our room had not been touched, no bed made, no change of wet towels. We also had no access to a TV either in our room or in a lounge area although the hosts were settled into a room watching TV. We would have expected a higher standard from even a low priced B&B and at $495 per night for accommodation and inflated food prices on top this ($150+) it is not place we would can recommend. Beware.

I am sorry to hear you were not satisfied with your stay our website is quite clear that our food is paddock to plate, we cook what ever is in season and available at the time and ask you at the time of your booking if you have any dietary requirements. The room not being made - we do not go into the suites unless you put the sign "please clean my room" and we advise when you first arrive that there are additional towels in the bathroom drawer. No there is no TV in the suites but there is one available in the sitting room if only you had asked Re food costs - again prices are all in the website and to be clear $150.00 was 3course meal for 2 .

We (2 families with 4 kids) spent 4 nights with Mary and Peter at their beautiful church house. They are the most outstanding hosts you can ever imagine. It started with a delicious pasta despite very late arrival and continued with home made croissants for breakfast as well as delicious 3 course menus every evening accompanied by gems from Peter‘s cellar.
The kids had the time of their life with Sidnei, the lovely Pudel, doing a garden tour with Greg including feeding the chicken.
Rooms are individual, large and cosy.
Nearby Fishcreek is a small but lovely town with several shops inviting for an afternoon tour.
Access to Wilsons Prom is convenient 30 min drive.

My wife and I spent four fantastic nights at the wonderful Church House in Fish Creek. The house itself; the views; the most friendly lovable dog ever; the food and wine, and of course the gracious hosts were all 5 stars. We enjoyed a number of really impressive dinners matched with some great wine all cooked by our great hosts who felt more like old friends than hosts. The house, and the rooms in general, are lovely and warm and very well decotated. The local environment is also just beautiful. Whether hiking at Wilson Prom or in the local area, there is plenty of wonderful nature to enjoy. Fish Creek is also a great little town with some good cafes and a great rail trail to go for a long walk or run. This is certainly a bit of luxury, but it is well worth it!

From the moment we were greeted by Mary and Peter at The Church House door it was an unbelievable experience the house in itself is superb! the foresight to even erect it. It was like staying in my own home I felt I could go anywhere in the house and relax without feeling I was imposing. A hard thing to achieve in an air bnb. The food OMG they have to run a cooking school .Venison pie, duck confit, home made croissants , jams and relishes every dish just appeared no fuss. Well done Mary and Peter for creating this jewel for all to enjoy. And of course Sidney the standard poodle wins everybody over. We are going back

My partner and I went for a romantic weekend break to the Church House Gourmet Retreat, and from the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the beauty of it. Stunning views, especially from the breakfast terrace, amazing food that Mary and Peter prepare (the best croissants!) and the warmest hospitality. We dined in on one evening and the meal and wines were fantastic.

Peter and Mary's warmth and genuine care made us feel completely at home. From recommending local places to ensuring our every need was met, they added an extra layer of comfort and joy to our stay.

If you're looking for a really special place to visit, we can't recommend Church House Gourmet Retreat enough.

This adventure was a long time coming due to COVID, however it was worth the wait and exceed all expectations on every level. The owners and hosts, Peter and Mary greeted us like old friends and made the entire weekend (3 nights) so much fun. The food was amazing and the house and suites beautiful. we will return! We had a lovely, relaxing 2 night stay at the Church House.
Being a B&B, which is obviously a different experience to a hotel, it was great to get along so well with the hosts and the other couples staying there. Peter and Mary are very generous hosts, as is Sidney the house poodle! Peter's food and wine were wonderful (making the most of local produce) and the view from the house is spectacular. As others have said, it is expensive, but it was also a wonderful experience that we will long remember. Thank you for making us feel like part of the family!
