Lazonby Hall sits in an imposing position with stunning views across the beautiful and unspoilt Eden Valley close to the Lake District and Hadrian's wall. With breathtaking views down the valley and along the river Eden to the Pennines beyond, Lazonby has one of the most unrivaled positions in this unspoilt and little known hidden jewel, yet very accessible part of Cumbria. The house was built in 1848 by Lt. Colonel Alexander MacLean the 30th Liard of Ardgour in Invernessshire. Built of ornate local sandstone the property has the distinct style of a French Chateau. The principle portion of this splendid early Victorian house offers fine accommodation in one of the prettiest parts of Northern England near the Scottish border.

Detailed Reviews
We had a lovely time at Lazonby Hall. The welcome, room and breakfast were outstanding and the location of the Hall can't be faulted. It is classic British elegance. Lazonby is no distance from the Lakes, but beautifully peaceful and quiet. The roads are empty (unlike the nose-to-tail on the other side of the M6) and we did an idyllic walk straight from the Hall and met only 3 other people in 4 1/2 hours. It was a complete retreat and our hosts were wonderfully friendly. The local pubs are great and you don't feel like you're in a tourist trap.

A bit off the beaten track, Lazonby Hall was a little difficult to find but well worth the effort. The rooms are in the main part of a grand country house that has been divided up. The gardens have a spectacular view across the Eden Valley to the high Pennines. We were reticent about two of the four rooms sharing a bathroom, but having seen the bathroom and ensuites we were amazed. These have got to be the most luxurious facilities ever installed in accommodation of this size - we have seen less in 5* De Luxe hotels! The rooms and beds were of a good size and comfortable. The lounge and breakfast room were of country house proportions and the food and service were excellent, from wine on the terrace in the evening to a generous breakfast in the morning. This place is a hidden gem. We had a great stay.

Thanks to you all for a wonderful couple of nights of beautiful scenery, fabulous comfortable beds, delicious food, and entertaining company. Having visited in the past and found a lovely calm and restful home from home, we did not hesitate to return. We look forward to our next visit soon. Duncan and kids

Visited en route back from Ireland. A really warm welcome. Marvellous transformation from hectic motorway to rural peace. Spacious bedroom with state-of-the-art bathroom. Comfortable sofas to sprawl in by the log-fire in the large drawing room, good supply of interesting reading material. No evening meal so had to eat out at a recommended (and good) local inn, Enjoyed our post-breakfast stroll in the attractive garden before returning to the grim grind of the motorway

We had a lovely stay for two nights at Lazonby Hall over Christmas. There were beautiful views of the garden and countryside, and the room was extremely spacious with a large en suite, all with classic decor. The owners were very helpful and friendly and relaxed, and we had a really peaceful stay. The bed was very comfortable and we felt very at home. We will definitely be back again, it seems a real find.

I stayed for three nights with my 14 year old son visiting relatives nearby. We had a great time. Warm welcome, huge bedroom and bathroom, delicious breakfast and a large garden where we walked in the daytime and used our stargazer app at night. I would recommend Lazonby Hall for all group sizes, but I thought it would be particularly suitable for larger groups such as family gatherings or friends' reunions. There is plenty of space to be together but also to separate and do different activities.

We stayed here last summer and loved it. Mr and Mrs Quine were fantastic hosts - whether it was local restaurant knowledge, history or quality of breakfast.
It was an excellent base for Northern Lakes as Eden Valley.

The party of four of us arrived and were struck by the beautiful building and surrounding landscape. A beautiful manner set amongst flowering gardens, in turn set in a wonderful part of Cumbria.
From the first step onto the property I can safely say I have never met anyone so hospitable and welcoming. Every moment each day we were made to feel at home and were well catered for. Any information we needed was readily made available to us and Adrian took the liberty to recommend and book us a table at a great restaurant in a village close by.
The food was very good - cooked breakfast each morning - and the evening meal with wine that was put on for us was excellent, as was the service.
The rooms and bathrooms were spacious and welcoming (and a monsoon shower never fails to make me think well of a place).
I couldn't speak more highly of Adrian, the family, the property and the service. They truly have something unique that I have yet to find anything comparable both in terms of quality and style.

This is the first review I have ever done - so the place is either awful or fantastic.
We have been to the Eden Valley many times over the last 30 years, but this addition to the
B&Bs is Gorgeous!!! Magnificent 19th Century house.
Rooms are huge, bathroom is larger than most hotel rooms!! Very comfortable bed. Stunning view down the valley between the trees in the well kept garden.
Breakfast was excellent.
Oh, one complaint......NO brown sauce!!

Lazonby Hall surpassed our expectations - better than a small country house hotel, the attention to detail and warm welcome was a real credit to the owners, Mr & Mrs Quine. We are in two minds about telling our friends, because it was so good, we don't want to find that there is no availablity there when we want to go back!
