It is a huge resort and its on the river. It was low season so not many people about but the staff made it a pleasurable experience. They certainly went out of their way to ensure we ate and slept well. The rate we got included evening meals and breakfast and the evening meals were delicious.
I personally loved the walk around the parklands

this resort was very strange. it has lots going for it but a the same time theres something not quite right. the resort is in the middle of nowhere. first impressions were mixed. the hotel and grounds are huge and seem to be well looked after. the hotel sits right on the river which is idilic and great for pics. staff at reception were friendly even though their english was limited. we seemed to be the only people in the whole hotel which was a bit weird especially when there was lots of staff around. pool area needs updating. the spa is overpriced. the food was actually very good. the rooms are very basic but clean and big. the air con in he whole hotel didnt seem to work very well. our room was very hot even with the air con on the coolest setting. overall this hotel was fine for our short 2night stay but wouldnt rush back.

Beautiful grounds but in the middle of nowhere. Restaurant staff very rude and no one speaks English. A ten minute walk from room to restaurant. Would not stay there again as staff are very difficult they have no idea how to treat customers.

Stayed here only one night as part of a tour visiting Hellfire Pass for Anzac day.Very quiet place with a room right on the edge of the river.Had dinner in the restaurant and breakfast after the dawn service all of which was ample.Looked to have a great pool and surrounds and even some sort of zoo.Very good service....

we stay for 4 night at this Terrible hotel 1st night we arrive at 9 pm after a long bus ride form Bangkok. It was great bus ride. But all change when we arrive at this hotel. The check in we had no problem but when we got the keys to the room The door was really hard to open because the door was really old so was the lock So we had to try a few times. we when go in the room It was Really old and dirty and had a Big hole in the bath room door. The Breakfast Was really Bad except for the boil rice that was fine but other than that is was cold. Even the way we walk to breakfast had old junk like old chair and beds and wood scrap. on the 2nd night it was raining hard so at morning it had dead bugs all over the walk way it was gorse but we understand that the hotel is near the forest and had no problem with the bugs but the housekeeper didn't clean up all the way till check out and we had these bugs all over the walk way all these time. the worst part was we got charge for the hole in the Barth room door even tho is was already there my friends room got charge for the water bottle when he drop them and also we got charge for the towel that we had to use to clean the mud after a long day of mountain biking. terrible hotel not recommend for anyone

I stayed here in April 2012 as it was one of the closest hotels to the Hellfire Pass Memorial in Soi Yak in Kanchanaburi Province Thailand. I only wanted somewhere cheap and clean as I had to be out at 4.30am the next morning.

The first impression is that the place is quite expansive over many acres and includes a range of activities like canoeing on the Kwai River which runs right past it, rockclimbing, archery, and many more things.

The room I was given was literally 10 yards from the river itself (I'm sure it's been flooded once or twice it was so close), and was clean and basic. It wasn't five star by any measure but I had no complaints at all, for the money I paid it was fine.

The swimming pool is huge but unfortunately after the Thai sun beats on it al day it's too warm to offer any cool relief. For that I'd suggest either Soi Yak or Erawan waterfalls which are close by.

The next morning after attending the memorial service we returned for breakfast which was typically Asian and offered basic western fare, (not even omelettes.... strange) and I'll never understand what those little weiner sausages are about, they're horrible. It was satisfactory rather than tasty.

I'd happily stay here again, it did represent good value for money, in fact I'm thinking of returning in a year or so to explore the Three Pagodas Pass region so might make his my base for 3-4 days. It's not the sort of place you'd go on your own unless you wanted to escape it all or really liked your own space. There might also be other places that are better places around but I don't really know the region very well.

The massage was outrageously expensive, I think it was 900 baht from memory.

We stayed at this hotel the night before ANZAC day. The resort is extremely hard to find and there are No English signs until you turn right off the main road. It is a bit of a maze to get into the resort It is in a beautiful location, right on the River Kwai and very close to Hell fire Pass and war cemetery. The hotel is quite basic, but very clean and the staff were very obliging... Dinner in the resturaunt was lovely, but unfortunately breakfast was extremely disappointing...

Stayed at the Phung Waan Resort during a 4-day Khwae Noi River kayak descent in March 2013. The resort features extensive grounds. It has a large and a small swimming pool as well as a Jacuzzi room. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The bar was nice and comfortable and the food was quite good. Next to the classic menu, we had a choice of three menu sets (starter till the coffee and ice cream) for a very reasonable price. The rooms were comfortable and equipped with air-conditioning, refrigerator and television, unfortunately with not much choice of channels. We had a terrace with view on the river. Wi-Fi was available at the bar, dining hall and lobby. The breakfast was extensive and already available at 0600 Hr.

Be aware that the resort is sometimes incorrectly indicated on maps (i.e. Google Tele Atlas). The resort is located on the left bank of the river, south of the bridge, below the Ban Rai Rim Than Resort. We had a crash landing with our kayaks at this resort, because we thought it was about 5 kilometers further down. The position of the Phung Waan Resort opposite the River Kwai Golf & Country Club is definitely wrong.

We were only here for one night for an early morning start for the Anzac dawn service next day. However the room was spacious although spartan, the bed comfortable and everything clean although old looking. Rooms are air conditioned and ours had a balcony that looked out over the river. The swimming pool was an excellent way of cooling off after a long day travelling. Dinner was provided and was a lovely selection of Thai dishes - so much food! There was a floor show of small children performing Thai dances which was very cute and enjoyable. The resort is a good way from anywhere however so it is difficult to want to eat elsewhere or browse markets stalls etc. This would be somewhere I would want to stay if I just wanted to relax and do nothing!

We stayed here for two nights in mid August 2011. It is in a lovely part of Kanchanaburi province and it's proximity to Hell fire Pass and all the other WW2 sites makes it a great choice if you are looking for complete relaxation and a unique out of the way resort. The grounds are gorgeous and you can walk around for a long time on beautiful walking paths. The pool area is absolutely stunning. The rooms were very nicely appointed and very comfortable. You can use the bicycles at the resort if you wish to explore the area, but as the title of my review states, this resort really is in the middle of nowhere.
Because of this fact, your eating options are really limited, other than breakfast, which is included, as is a lovely spread of both Asian and western choices, including omleletes and fried eggs, you have little option other than to eat at the resort for lunch and dinner, unless you are with a tour and are out of the resort.

The dinner menu presents itself as rather comical upon presentation at first glance. It is almost like a children's menu with it's colourful design, but in actuality it is excellent for english speakers, as it caters to all dietary needs. they will make dishes vegetarian if needed and if you have an allergy they will adjust the dish as necessary. all the dishes we had were excellent.

it appears they have a schedule for fun activities at night, but we din't partake in any of them as we were too tired and went to bed early!
I would recommend this resort to anyone looking for a quiet out of the way resort and spa.
