River Kwai Resotel is the unique river jungle resort along the River Kwai. With its jungle setting and lush green garden just beside River Kwai, there are lots of jungle and river activities that guests can enjoy and fulfill the days. The resort is connected to Lawa Cave, one of Thailand national reserve.

I booked into this hotel nestled in the heart of the rainforest, because it seemed like a great change of scenery, and relatively well located compared to the places we wanted to visit in the Kanchanaburi province. Traveling mainly in five-star hotels, I was dreading this stay, and feared being disappointed and lacking in comfort. The hotel ultimately turned out to be quite okay, although in need of improvement.
The River Kwaï Resotel kept its promises in terms of a change of scenery, and the experience was memorable. The setting in the heart of the jungle is simply magnificent, offering a true immersion in nature, in a calm location, on the edge of the River Kwai.
The rooms are nicely decorated and well equipped, with plenty of storage space. Unfortunately, they do not have a safe, which seems unthinkable today.
The language barrier was a problem, staff struggled with English which sometimes led to misunderstandings.
Having to take a boat to get to the hotel is nice and picturesque. However, this is impractical with suitcases. Additionally, the hotel charges a fee for travel, which seems inappropriate as it is the only means of access.
Many activities are offered, such as massages and bamboo rafting. Unfortunately, we were not able to take advantage of it because we were more often visiting than at the hotel, and everything was full during the times we were there.
The bars and restaurants are a point of improvement. Cocktails at the bar took a long time to prepare and serve. Cashing out was often complicated because there were software issues that made it impossible to bill the room. The hotel has only one restaurant and its menu is quite limited in choice. Knowing that the hotel is in the middle of nowhere, we have to eat dinner there. More variety would have been appreciated. Breakfast was very disappointing, with the absence of many basic items (scrambled eggs, bacon, cold meats, spreads, etc.). The choice was limited, and the quality of the products left something to be desired, especially the croissants which were dry.
The hotel is located in a superb green setting, with very rich flora and fauna. There seemed to be lots of interesting places around, such as a traditional village, and a bat cave, but the signage wasn't always clear, which made navigation a bit tricky.
When it was time to leave the establishment, we were in a hurry. I paid the bill, after breakfast then went back to my room to brush my teeth again and finish packing. I called the front desk to ask for help from the baggage handlers, before returning to return the physical keys (which were cumbersome, unlike the more common magnetic cards these days). The receptionist surprised me by asking me to wait while housekeeping was checking the room, which caused a delay. I would have preferred a pre-authorization to be done with my card at the start of the stay, as is usual these days. This would have made the formalities more fluid and in line with current practices.
Ultimately, despite the downsides, this hotel is worth a visit as it provides a very typical experience and is ideally located for exploring local attractions (after taking the boat). It is more suitable for short stays of two or three nights, but I would not recommend a long stay.

In the middle of the jungle and only accessible by boat. Great hotel complex in a beautiful landscape. We had booked half board, which was good because there really isn't anything in the area. We had buffets twice, which were perfectly fine - but the a la carte food looked even better :) When we were there for two nights, there were also two large tour groups in the hotel and it was accordingly full. If you want to go to the pool for a quick evening, you have to be lucky to get a lounger.
At dinner, however, great care was taken to ensure that those travelling alone were not "disturbed" by the group and that the buffet was constantly replenished.
The only criticism: we had no hot water for two days. We don't know if it was because the hotel was just so full or if that was normal. A warning in advance would have been nice :) We had a room with a whirlpool pool. Because it was very windy at night, the pool was full of plants etc. We would have liked the pool to be "cleaned" when the rooms were cleaned.

Four of us stayed at the River Kwai Resotel resort over the Christmas holiday. Our rooms were bungalow-style with a shared porch. The rooms were clean and well-maintained. The shower was very large and the amenities were adequate. They replenished the coffee/tea daily in addition to the waters. Even though other bungalows are very near, they do a great job of landscaping to block the views between them. Breakfast was ample. The restaurant is quite good, especially with its Thai offerings. They have 2 nice swimming pools. The one near reception is a smaller size while the one to the west of the main area is quite large. We enjoyed many swims. There are bikes available for use on grounds. They have some lounge chairs below at their dock. You can arrive by boat or car. The drive in is quite long and through a very rural area. It's quite amazing when you reach the end of the road and see this entire resort unfold. We spent some time and a little money at the neighboring Mon village. Walking up to the caves at the small, national park was also fun. Lots of up & down walking at the resort, too, as it's built into a steep, river valley hillside. Other than the bats at the cave, we didn't see much wildlife. There are a nice assortment of birds attracted to this resort area, however, and the morning serenade is lovely. They do have a small snack hut but the prices reflect that you are quite some distance from any competition. We all enjoyed our stay and do plan to return another time.

Our visit started well with a lovely boat ride to the hotels own pier. The room was comfortable but lacked privacy somewhat with busy footpaths at the front and rear. Staff were not particularly friendly or helpful especially the girl on the 'tour desk' who was impatient and rude. Food was very disappointing. Little to do nearby and we felt rather trapped in this resort. Any tours had to booked at the hotel and were expensive. We left early.

The River Kwai Resort was our 2nd hotel during our trip to Thailand and have to say that we really enjoyed our stay. We got there by means of a longboat trip, all luggage of the group was loaded on the longboats as well and later delivered to our room. The boat trip was a very nice start of this stay and after arriving at the hotel pier we walked up to the reception where we got our room key.
The entire resort is very green with loads of beautiful trees and plants as well as quite some nicely and beautifully coloured birds.
Our room was very spacious and clean, nicely decorated with a lot of wood and a nice bathroom.
Breakfast was well organised and had more than sufficient choice. We had lunches and dinners in the same restaurant, nicely sitting in an open air environment, especially in the evening nice to listen to the surrounding sounds. The menu for food and drinks was substantial and quality and freshness of the food and drinks like fresh made juices was very good.
At the pool they also had a small bar and also the fresh made juices, etc. were of of a very good quality.
We also had some Thai massages and these were great, one suddenly realises there are more muscles than you expect. :-). Intense and very nice. Really felt refreshed and afterwards had a nice fruit juice at the nearby pool.
All staff members were very friendly and helpful.
If you like peace and quiet in a natural environment we definitely recommend the River Kwai Resotel.

The hotel is wonderful, surrounded by vegetation in the middle of the jungle, they are separate bungalows, very well equipped, in ours we had a King size bed, desk, sofa and a spacious bathroom separating the shower tray, sink, and toilet, all very clean. There are 2 swimming pools and a restaurant where we had dinner with live music. A beautiful place that we loved, in our case we accessed the hotel by boat along the river.

A really really nice, beautiful and well-maintained resort right on the River Kwai in the town of Sai Yok, a few miles west of Kanchanaburi. Parking a couple of hundred meters from the reception and we with luggage were picked up directly by someone else. Very pleasant reception at the reception, where we received the keys to our two bungalows that were located together.

You have to be prepared with mosquito repellent because it is installed by the Kwai River and there is a lot of vegetation. Good place to spend a night

Incredible environment. They are very well decorated and clean bungalows. Breakfast little varied. Disadvantages: Be very careful in the pool because it is surrounded by very slippery stoneware floors. When I left the pool I slipped and hit my head hard, causing a nosebleed. They took me in a wheelchair to my bungalow. On the way to the pool I put on some flip flops from the bathroom and, naturally, they stayed in the pool. The next morning when we were leaving they worried about where the flip flops were, no one cared about how I was feeling, no one came to see me at the bungalow in case I needed anything. You arrive and leave by motorboat. I hope they change the pool floor because people were skating

I think River Kwai Reshotel has to be the best hotel I've ever stayed at. Its like Fantasy Island! We arrived at the hotel via a longboat, a beautifully scenic journey on the River Kwai that lasted about 30 minutes. Yes, you can drive your car directly to the hotel, but the boat ride is better and more dramatic. Basically, this hotel is situated in a jungle, and the rooms are all bungalows dotted around the vast property, so theres plenty of privacy. In the mornings you awake to various birds singing just before dawn, and crickets at night. The property has many walking paths for hiking or casual walks. And if you have time, there is a path leading to an indigenous tribal community that will gladly welcome you and show you around their small community, where you also have the option to buy their handmade items (ask the hotel manager about this). Rooms and bathrooms are spacious and luxurious (with walk-in shower). And the food of course, is excellent.
