Home Phutoey River Kwai Resort is an incredible retreat for anyone looking to connect with nature and enjoy some peace and tranquility. Nestled in the jungle along the River Kwai, the resort is surrounded by beautiful greenery and offers stunning views of the river. The location feels like a hidden paradise, far away from the usual tourist spots, making it the perfect getaway.

Our cabin was cozy, clean, and well-designed with a rustic charm that made us feel right at home. The natural hot spring pools were a major highlight — soaking in the warm water while surrounded by the lush forest was an unforgettable experience. We also enjoyed the large pool, which had plenty of space to relax and take in the scenery.

The staff at Home Phutoey were exceptional, always welcoming and ready to assist with any needs. They also helped us arrange activities like zip-lining and hiking, which added an adventurous touch to our stay. We loved the food at the on-site restaurant, especially the traditional Thai dishes, which were full of flavor.

If you’re looking for a mix of adventure, relaxation, and natural beauty, Home Phutoey is the perfect choice. It’s a true hidden gem along the River Kwai, and we can’t wait to return!

Cannot say enough good things about Home Phutoey. If you are looking for somewhere to just relax, this is the place. Staff is exceptionally hospitable. Food at the restaurant was good, extensive menu at lunch/dinner and good variety at breakfast buffet. Best of all? Very few mosquitoes at the end of December. I am a magnet for mosquitoes and left with only a few bites. They mostly come out around dusk.

Definitely get one of the river view rooms with onsen, it is well worth it. The room has a generous amount of space with a nice deck for enjoying your morning coffee or afternoon beer. Everything was in very good condition including bug screens, air conditioning, updated LED lightening, good water pressure for shower.

They say the water in the onsen is refreshed twice/day to bring the temperature up but seemed to be refreshed 3x day. Seems they fully drain and clean the tub every other day. Check the temperature before you get in because the natural spring is definitely too hot. Yucatas are provided which gives it a nice touch. Alternatively there is a pool, hot spring pool and foot baths in the public areas.

If you feel like getting out and exploring the front desk can arrange activities. Prices may seem a bit high, but when you remember you’re in a rural area it makes sense. Trip to Erawan National Park is highly recommended. Kayaking was also enjoyable, it’s a short but beautiful stretch of river. You stop at one of their sister hotels which is walkable to a Mon village.

If you want something free to do, there are some options on the resort grounds. War museum and waterfall. There is also a Mon village with temple you can walk to from Home Phutoey. All in all, we throughly enjoyed our five night stay.

The first time I came here was some 15 years ago. There seemed to be some changes, such as the cluster of Onzen pool villas which I remember was not available back then. The villas are rather well maintained. Ours was nearest to the restaurant and had a balcony with both up and down stream views. Early in the cold Christmas morning, with steam rising from the spring water we soaked in, we rested on the ledge of the outdoor pool watching the longtail boats below. It was gratifying. There is also a common hot spring water pool by the scenic lake. That is where you can also find some tubs for soaking feet with other strangers to make feet soup. Amongst the myriad of accommodation blocks, there is a Kids Spring Pool. Water very cold, I don’t think they really work it. I think it is a torture your kids in cold water pool. F&B service level was a hit a miss. On one night, they seemed to be understaffed, yet on another, we got served quick. Staying here, either have a car, or arrange for transport to eat out. Many foreign guests ate in as such. So did we, but because we were lazy. Portions were generous, Tom Kha Goong (coconut soup with prawns) I recommend. The chicken rice at breakfast was one of the best in Thailand I had. If they did the soy sauce sesame oil style of serving the tender meat, it beats many of the best Singapore Chicken Rice anytime. I remember 15 years ago, this resort was famous for its Pla Tong Kor (Chinese dough fritters) during breakfast. I remembered it was good. I think there is now a change of chef, ownership of resort or whatever and the recipe never came along. Pla Tong Kor here is a failure, is now a disaster, is made by aliens. You can please skip it. One other thing I noticed, even after 20 years of progress, no bacon served. We stayed here for 2 nights, we made our reservations a year in advance. It is nice to be in Kanchanaburi during the year’s end when it is cold. It is also the peak season so expect inflated pricing (with no bacon at breakfast) and more people than usual. During the day we ventured out northwards towards Sangkhla for some attractions. The rest of the time, rested well in the villa looking up the ceiling at Charlotte's web. Apparently, there were quite many Charlottes up there.

It is an old and neglected resort that has not been done for a long time.
Dirty rooms, mold on the shower curtain, showers are not adjustable in terms of constant temperature, rock-hard mattresses, old and noisy air conditioning, rooms are very noisy.
Old and dilapidated swimming pool with 8 sunbeds for 60 guests. The shower and toilet by the pool are terribly gross.
Restaurant is quite unsociable and the food is poor, the breakfast is very mediocre and mainly aimed at Asians.
The location is nice but very retrospective and so you have to rely on the hotel-restaurant and hotel-taxis that are at the price. Staff is sweet but speak little or no English.
Absolutely not recommended!!

The location is amazing, with stunning views and a jungle setting. The pool is fab and really big and the rooms are comfortable... But.... The whole vibe of the place is quite depressing. It is run by a large company who are clearly out to make as much money as possible. The staff whilst friendly are unmotivated and the place is poorly maintained. The gardens are unkept with ponds everywhere that could be lovely but are just stagnant ponds of scum. The rooms are a bit tired with cracked tiles etc.

However, the in-house prices, do not reflect all this dilapidation and lack of care. The restaurant has extortionately priced beer that is then subject to an additional 17% service charge and tax, making it 60% more expensive than average hotel Thai prices. Water is only provided in small plastic bottles (unacceptable in these eco times). We were attracted to come here by the number of activities available (tree top experience, kayaking on River Kwai etc) but all of these are so overpriced even by European standards, that we couldn't justify doing them, particularly as we suspected they would be provided with the same lack of care as the hotel. Taxis out of the place are also ridiculously overpriced - we got one to the nearest place and then found a local taxi who took us around for a fraction of the price.

We have no problem paying for quality services and understand that resorts have overheads and so prices are bound to be higher than elsewhere. However, this was just off the scale greedy and combined with the lack of care given to the place, we felt that it was unjust. If this place could be given a bit of love and attention, then they could justify their high prices and it would be amazing but as it is, it didn't work for us and we would not recommend. A shame, as it has huge potential...

Dear clairec532, Thank you for your recent stay at Home Phutoey and taking the time to share valuable perspective. First of all, we are very surprised to see the score you gave us and deeply sorry about it. However, in order to clarify the issue, please allow us to explain further herewith. According to our philosophy, in order to accommodate the quality hospitality, we always strive our best to revitalize the property as exceptional as possible. Our definite conceptual commitment is to rejuvenate natural, peaceful serenity asset. In addition, recently we've invested a significant amount on refurbishment especially, in the area of facility's upgrade. Also, daily our gardeners are routinely assigned to tend the whole plants, tree zone very tidily, thus please be ensured that this topic has been closely taken care of. By the way, after hearing your comment, we've conducted the team talk to seriously emphasize and implement on this specific subject. In regard to the price, according to findings, comparing our restaurant to other tourist attraction sites elsewhere, excluding how difficult to get the groceries far from the middle of jungle like us, our property still stands on the category of worth paying at affordable price. Nevertheless, after hearing your comment, we've raised the subject on the meeting with involved responsible personnel so that an appropriate reassessment would be proceeded consecutively. . We hope you'd give us another opportunity to win your trust. Regards, Home Phutoey River Kwai

We stayed in the Onsen villa, which I strongly recommend. The currently reduced covid rates make the room extremely good value. Room was charming Thai tropical jungle style, situated on a hillside with an awesome view of the River Kwai. There was a large balcony with a seating area and the highlight of our stay-an Onsen. (Hot springs soaking tub) right on the balcony. The room was spacious, well furnished and comfortable, with modern convenience. We had our grandson with us and he was able to sleep comfortably on the sofa. Wi fi worked well, even in the room. The included breakfast buffet was excellent with Thai and western food including an egg station. Because of the isolated location you will probably want to eat in the restaurant. Well, unlike my normal hotel restaurant experience this one was excellent. Overlooking the river, with an extensive menu (English) featuring Thai food but with some western food. The service staff speak some English . Menu has pictures. Service was very prompt even though they were quite busy. Be cautious as portions are very generous, prepared as you request. Prices are very fair, given the portion size. With three people we averaged around 1100 baht a night (over 3 nights) including 1 or 2 alcoholic beverages each dinner. The grounds are very open and are like a tropical botanical gardens There is a large swimming pool, a mineral hot springs and a lake. There are lots of activities available, but we just came to relax. My wife and I felt this was probably the best resort we have stayed at in many years. Its about 75 km out of Kanchanaburi but well worth the travel. Should you have questions, message or email them, English is good and response time was prompt and thorough. Oh yeah, almost forgot, we were there in October and there were virtually no mosquitos.

We stayed at this resort for two nights and realised we made a huge mistake. We should have booked four! The facilities - particularly the hotspring and pools were therapeutic and relaxing after a days adventuring in the local surrounds and I wish we had factored in more time just chilling in this lovely resort.

The accommodation is comfortable and the surroundings are beautiful. I would warn that if you have mobility issues you may struggle as the units are connected by paths that are rocky and uneven (not unsafe - just not flat).

The food is standard good value Thai specialties so don't expect pizza. Breakfast is relatively limited in choice but given their location, I think they offer enough.

Staff are really friendly and helpful Although the front desk team do speak English, do make sure you have Google Translate on your phone for the odd request that they seem to find unusual (FYI - I need to weigh luggage for an internal flight and they do not have a scale). They were quickly responsive to our leaky aircon unit and we had no further issues with it.

Highly recommended and I would go again.

Built in a forest area, large property miles from anywhere. If you’re not driving there you’re pretty much stuck in the hotel with their activities. Petty run down, views of the river are its best selling point, although the air quality in the high season is awful. Plenty of mosquitoes even in dry season which is very unusual.
Average Thai food which was very disappointing and expensive, breakfast the usual serving of poorly thought out offerings. The staff were good, the river view villa was a reasonable standard, but nothing special for the price (4,000 +), internet varied from 10mbs to .02, yes .02..upload impossible.
Nice walks around the property, museum thing was dated and run down, nice old train there which was a surprise. Day trips expensive and elephant experience which is non starter these days, but if you’re visiting from out of Thailand you’ll find it fun, it has a tropical rainforest feel (although it’s not). Pool was quite small, leisure pedal boats were old, the sky walk I was surprised by, but didn’t want to take a chance on safety grounds.
Planned three days , stayed one.

Beautiful structure with lodges and Bungalows set in a beautiful natural setting: from the istorante you can enjoy the breathtaking view of the river bend, the lodges are set in the garden with every variety of plants and trees. There is a swimming pool with a large pool at normal temperature and a pool bordering 38 degrees. This in turn borders a circular pond surrounded by palm trees and other trees. Bellissimo!. The rooms are consistent with the context, all wooden and colonial style, each lodge has its own veranda with sofas. The structure is isolated so in the evening you eat at the hotel. The restaurant is good not expensive, but nothing exceptional. Consider the location and forgive some limitations. The breakfast buffet however has everything you need. Obviously in such a context that I define "in the jungle" in the rooms despite the air conditioning remains a certain humidity, a wet costume to understand each other takes a long time to dry. I say that even if it is
Of course. Beautiful and charming hotel, I would definitely stay there again.

We stayed one night before a trail run nearby.
We were one of two groups checking in when we arrived, but it was a messy affair, with 3 staff members jumping between the two of us.
Room was okay, but not good value for the money, with the only windows facing the walking path with a lot of foot traffic. We had dinner at the restaurant, and the Thai food was mediocre.
The real headache came when we went to bed, where we realized the walls are so thin that you can hear the tv from the room next door, and conversations 2 rooms down. We were traveling with our 18mo daughter, and it was impossible to sleep early due to the noise level.
The breakfast was really poor quality.

For over 3,000 THB / night, it was definitely not worth it. At 1,000 THB, maybe, but we won’t go again, and won’t recommend the hotel.

Would give it 2 stars based on our stay, but the hotel team is busy trying to take down reviews they don’t like, which is really poor form, and removes a star from my review.

Hello. From Bangkok you can take the train to Nam Tok station. At Nam Tok Station you can take a local pick up taxi to Home Phutoey for around 700baht per car. Just tell the full name of the resort to the driver and he will take you there.
