Spent a wonderful evening with Fran and Ian. The Suite was absolutely splendid; spacious, clean, extremely comfortable. The place you envision after a long day of travel to rejuvenate! Fran prepared a most delicious meal (really, you need to sign up for dinner at the Lodge) and Ian regaled me with all sorts of interesting information and stories about the...

Waipoua Lodge sells itself due to its fabulous location alone, however what makes it extra special is it's hosts. Fran and Ian went the extra mile in every way to accommodate our every need. They organised horseriding for my 20 year old daughter and helped me plan my own excursions into the magnificent Kauri Forests all around. The cooking is...

We were delighted to be able to organise some authentic rural kiwi horseriding for you and only too happy to give you a black beer with which to climb our 130 year old macracarpa tree to enjoy the sun...

We visited the Waipoua forest, and the Waipoua Lodge at the end of our month long visit to New Zealand. We stayed in some great places along the way, but WL exceeded them all for sheer graciousness, fabulous cooking, comfort, and terrific hosts. The lodge is on the edge of Waipoua forest, home of ancient kauri trees, some of them...

We are so pleased that at the end of your month long visit to New Zealand you enjoyed your stay at Waipoua Lodge so much to think it was the best place you stayed. We both love being owners and custodians of this wonderful old historic homestead, plus of course living in this amazing, ancient Kauri Coast environment. With a...

Ian and Fran are superb hosts in every way. Comfortable guest room, beautiful main lodge, fabulous breakfast and supper, maps and knowledge to help you experience the area, calling to confirm your bookings. Calling before we even arrived to confirm menu choice, driving directions and to advise us to visit the fabulous Kauri Museum in Matakohe. Wonderful.

Experience true New Zealand hospitality. Waipoua Lodge - creating a memorable guest experience. Waipoua Lodge is a little piece of luxury etched in history where you can experience true New Zealand hospitality whilst travelling Northland’s Twin Coast Discovery Highway. This circular route provides two diverse coastlines which offer in just one region, so much of the natural environment which is our beautiful Aotea-roa (land of the long white cloud). With the mixture of yesteryear in the old Kauri lodge, home to artefacts from the Kauri logging era, to the four acres of garden and tranquil bush walk surrounded by pasture and forest … you will be inspired and all within an easy 3 hour drive from Auckland. Host Ian offers personalised guided tours of the local area and hands on talks and demonstrations of the history of the ancient kauri and the early pioneers and gumdiggers. If you have a love of food, cooking and entertaining, then dining at Waipoua Lodge will be an experience to remember. Spending some time with host and chef Fran at the lodge's cooking school could simply be the ‘cream on your dessert!’ ... more   less
