We booked apartment 3 with 3 bedrooms at the Patonga hotel and it is lovely right on the beach with clean, breezy accommodation. However the food at the hotel is abysmal. Salad dressing like toilet cleaner, chicken burger and prawn linguine (actually stuck together tagliatelle) was inedible. I’m astonished people eat there, I’d love to show them real food like Hugo’s in Manly. Absolutely brought down our trip, no wonder they don’t display the menu in the apartment, it’s probably a big hint. Book the apartment, enjoy the ferry to Palm Beach, chill but by God, bring your own food.

I get that it’s the holiday season and I understand that prices can be inflated given the time of the year however the Patonga Beach Hotel restaurant leaves a lot to be desired.
The beef burger was tasty yet for $22 I expected a lot more and the salt and pepper squid lacked any of the signature ingredients: namely salt and pepper! It was pan fried squid with a very tasty salad but once again for $19 you couldn’t help but feel underwhelmed.
The wait for our meal was in excess of 30 minutes and when it did arrive it was delivered haphazardly with meals arriving at irregular intervals and the children’s meals arriving after the adult meals. How this can occur in a pub kitchen baffles me as I’m sure at least half of the meals that are ordered include a children’s meal surely?
Having said that the view is awesome and the pub itself is charming.

Ok probably the best location for a meal and beer on the waterfront of the Hawkesbury River. First thing the drinks are expensive and the meals are up there in price but food wasn't great would go back for a beer.

I have had lunch here at this time of year before and it’s always been awful grumpy staff more interested in telling customers they are busy than serving them. With new owners in we decided to try again and what a difference. It was very busy as expected (who wouldn’t want to be in this wonderful location this time of year) the staff were great and plenty of them. We had to wait a bit for our food but I don’t think this size crowd could be handled any better. Great pub food and service in a fantastic location and a free lift home we will be back.

What a disorganised shemozzle. Firstly, we booked a table back in Sept for NYE. In Oct, they ring to advise that the Hotel is closed on New Years Day and our booking would need to be cancelled. "umm, we're booked in on NYE, not NYD." Oh sorry, not sure if we have a spare table for NYE. But we made a booking back in Sept for a specific table overlooking the water! Oh, OK we'll put you on a nice table on the deck overlooking the water.
So we turn up on NYE and our table isn't in the location advised, it's down the bottom with no view of anything! And picnic bench seats with no backs so we couldn't recline & relax. Asked for our table as per the booking but they were all taken.
No waitress service, gotta line up at the bar to order the meal - I guess that's OK, many pubs do it. But the line was so long, it was 20 minutes or so to order.
Finally got to the counter "oh sorry we're out of schnitzel, and we're out of <something else, can't recall, I think it was a steak>, and were out of <some other dish too>. I mean, this is NYE we're talking here - how can they not know they'd have scores and scores of customers who want a nice pub steak or schnitty, and order sufficient in? What idiot runs this place? I decide on something else.
Our order finally comes out & it's wrong. So it comes back correct 5 or 10 mins later, then comes out again! Doubled up! And by the way, our friends who were about 5 or 6 people behind us in the meal queue got their meals before us!
The drinks line was huuuuge too.
So we finish our meals around 8:30ish and at 9:00 we think it'd be nice to have dessert - we recall seeing some nice desserts on the menu. So we rock up to the meal counter...kitchen closed! What the? This is NYE, so many people having their NYE dinner & they close the kitchen? As I said before, what idiot runs this place? The Hotel could've made hundres of dollars just on desserts alone.
The staff seemed unenthusiastic.
It was just a disorganised mess.
In their favour the food was quite nice. But the prices are a little on the high side for pubs.

Patonga is quiet (except for the pub) and the hotel is immediately opposite the beach with great views to the sea.

We stayed in apartment 1. Friendly checkin. Up stairs to apartments 1 and 2.

Massive apartment. Large main bedroom with ensuite. Bedroom 2 is smaller but quieter (less pub noise). Living areas are very large and the balcony has plenty of space.

You can order food and drinks using a QR code in the room and the staff will bring it up to you. Great idea and handy.

The apartment has a laundry and tiny kitchen. It’s beautifully furnished with quality and everything you need. Kitchenette is basic but fine for what we needed. Some breakfast supplies was a pleasant surprise.

The staff will reserve a table in the restaurant for you (which is a perk of staying here. I don’t believe the general public can do that.)

There’s a fair bit of noise from the downstairs pub but it shuts at a very reasonable hour and all is quiet (except for the waves lapping the shore) until the breakfast crowd arrives between 7 and 8. It may be much quiet mid week.

Outdoor parking opposite or in the laneway at the back.

Very pretty place for a weekend away or maybe even better as a mid week escape.

The food was so disappointing .. fish n chips were inedible, chips were good! The green salad was fresh.

Monday lunch saw the Market Fish of the day sold out by 12.30pm, so had to settle on the battered fish and chips WRONG! Chips were great but the fish had 2 pieces that were mainly tailings only and 3 bites and the body of the fish was consumed. Batter was disgusting, overcooked and inedible. The waitress did offer to refund the cost of the meal, so I figured that they must have been aware of the poor quality as well. Not a patch on Palm Beach or Balmoral, very disappointing. Tricia Bell

Across the road from the beach and in ideal setting amongst Norfolk Pines is Patonga Hotel. It has a large outdoor dining area and is extremely popular for both lunch and dinner.
After a lovely seafood dinner, we were pleasantly surprised with a local live band playing all the hits of the '80s.
We went for dinner, and stayed til closing.

We used to visit the Patonga hotel for lunch/dinner and haven't been since the new menu was launched. Very disappointing to find no vegetarian options on the menu. I asked and was offered a salad - come on its 2018 why is there no options?
