From the moment we arrived until the moment we left we felt totally cared for and spoilt. Every member of staff can't do enough for you and everyone is so happy and friendly.
Our room was outstanding and prepared to such a high standard. fantastic toiletries, loads of towels and a great hair drier. The room was made up each morning, while we ate breakfast and the turn down (with lovely chocolates) was done each evening while we were having dinner. The pool area was kept tidy as well and was a lovely place to relax, so quiet and peaceful.
We could walk to breakfast and as soon as someone saw us walk in they offered us an outside or inside table. Both areas had a lovely view. The breakfast was cooked to order and so much choice. Gorgeous, freshly squeezed juices and fresh local fruits.
For dinner, we would ask for a buggy and that was always prompt. The restaurant was lovely and also offered a complimentary afternoon tea which was a perfect stop gap until dinner. We ate here on 3 evenings and every meal was lovely and beautifully served. We felt the prices here were reasonable considering they virtually had a captive market.
We treated ourselves to a couples Balinese massage in their Spa and it was amazing, lovely views and so tranquil. Just what you need after spending 18 hours on a plane the previous day.
We used their shuttle into central Ubud and that worked well.
We can't recommend this hotel highly enough.

We stayed 5 nights in a 2 bedroom family pool villa.

The villas are outdated however clean and maintained reasonably well. The bathrooms are nice and spacious. Although linen and towels need a complete overhaul - many thin and don’t really dry properly, not expected in a 5 star resort.

We had a few hiccups on arrival- but rectified promptly by staff.

The 2 bedrooms are separate from each other, so may not be suitable for young families. The family villas are directly off the road. So security is not as good as the ones in the main area, which is manned by a security guard 24/7. There was a lot of noise off the road, so not as peaceful as the one bedroom villas in the main area. The villas are all very enclosed without a view but good for privacy.

We were on a luxury escapes package which included breakfast and lunch or dinner. The limited menu for dinner was not changed during our stay so became a bit repetitive. The food however was excellent. Breakfast (ala carte) was fantastic. Room service was available for all meals at no extra charge on our package which was great on rainy days. Afternoon tea each day was also a lovely inclusion. Dinners at the restaurant offered complementary table water with our meals, which is different to many of the other Bali resorts that make you pay for water at dinner.

We celebrated our child’s birthday during our stay and a small cake was given at dinner which was nice. Yet, no other recognition during the day- quite unlike any other resort we’ve stayed at during special events, where a bigger fuss has always been made for the ‘special person’

Staff all pleasant and respectful, but don’t really go out of their way. The restaurant manager was however very sincere and kind.

What was outstanding at the Samaya were the massages. Probably one of the best I’ve ever had. Duwi, Ani, Lena were amazing!! A 5/5 for massage team. Probably made our stay worth our while. Wish we booked more treatments! Very affordable too, compared to other Bali resorts. Before the treatments you can book the private sauna in some of the treatment rooms which was an added bonus.

Rate our stay a 3/5
Massage team 5/5 (highlight for us)
Overall 4/5

Wow!!! We stayed at this resort for 4 nights as part of our honeymoon and we were not disappointed. The location was beautiful, with stunning views looking over a rice paddy for breakfast or the River for lunch and dinner. When we first entered our villa, we were amazed at how amazing it was. We stayed in an 'Ayung Villa' at the base of the resort. The villa was so spacious and comfortable and the little details prepared, because it was our honeymoon, were extra special. The private pool was special and it was lovely to take a dip, morning, noon or night. The hotel offer a free buggy to and from your villa to the lobby, or restaurants if needed as the hill was quite steep, although we did walk this sometimes. The food choices were great and it all tasted so good. The hotel also offer a shuttle service into Ubud, which we used every day and it is well worth visiting for dinner in the evening.

Everything exceeded our expectations and everything was so perfect and personable. The best part of this hotel, without any question, was the staff! The most helpful, friendly, attentive and warm staff I have ever come across. Nothing was too much trouble and they made every interaction so personal it was always so lovely speaking to them. Also they would know when you had left your villa and on your return, this would be cleaned and with fresh towels left, so our days felt uninterrupted. They could not have done anymore to make this part of our honeymoon so special.

A must for anyone wanting relaxed luxury in the heart if Ubud!

The moment we arrived at The Samaya we could feel the tension lift. Reception staff made sure the effects of plane and taxi travel were short lived.
Our pool room was set high on the hill, so we had a short walk to the Scenic Restaurant and reception. Rooms at the bottom of the hill are close to the Ayung River, the Swept Away restaurant and the spa. If you have one of the lower rooms you can choose to walk up the hill or catch a buggy, which are constantly available.
The private pools are 1.8 metres deep and large enough for swimming.
Our bed was very comfortable, we had plenty of storage and a separate make up area was provided. Extra water was available on request.
A la carte breakfast was something to look forward to each morning, with the green Samaya special drink a highlight. All meals were delicious and served with a smile.
Housekeeping was regularly performed during breakfast and the evening turn down prepared us for a solid night's sleep.

We are 2 days in to our 4 night stay at Samaya and aren't going to want to leave... Our Ayang riverside villa 205 is beautifully furnished and is kept in tip top condition by efficient housekeeping staff. Outside is a gorgeous 'garden', good sized private pool.... and a 'hobbit' style hideaway overlooking the river! There are also comfortable sunbeds and a sheltered garden table with armchairs. Breakfast can either be taken in your room or at the Scene breakfast cafe, with complimentary afternoon tea available in room or in their excellent Swept Away restaurant. A wide range of foods to suit all tastes is available at both quality eating venues and they always check for allergies. All hotel staff we have come into contact with have been friendly, welcoming, and keen to offer any assistance required. Two minor issues in our lovely villa were promptly responded to and resolved very quickly. A useful free shuttle taxi service into Ubud can be booked at Reception. Can highly recommend for a relaxing, luxury rain forest based break. Thank you everyone at Samaya!!!

I chose Samaya Ubud for my first Bali trip with my husband.
I'm sure we've embarrassed the staff because our English isn't good enough, but they've been very helpful and provided great service without showing any signs of diversion. Thank you also to the cleaners who always stock up on large, clean and ample amounts of mineral water.
Breakfast is not a buffet, you can choose what you like from the menu, all delicious, and the food is perfect.
When I'm eating, I'm always like, "Is there something wrong?" I didn't have any complaints during my stay because they care about me.
It's a really great hotel.
I want to stay again.

We went here in 2019 and had a great stay so returned in 2024. The grounds were still amazing and the gardens perfectly kept. The villa although compact was great but needed some TLC. The bathroom ceiling was in a bad way with stains and peeling and the whole villa needed painting including the villa furniture. The towels were really old and stained and I would not use the robe due to its condition. That being said it was just basically that the villa needed not much money spent on it..it was just a case of some attention to detail. The pool however was well kept and amazing. The breakfast area also needs updating as it lacks luxury and this resort is branded as luxury.  The staff are great but there is definitely a communication problem. One girl in particular who seems to put herself forward to talk to guests had very limited English and we found communication a real problem. In 2019 this resort had the most amazing shuttle service which included drop off and pick up anywhere within a certain radius of the resort.  In 2024 the shuttle service was drop off and pick up only from ubud centre with a strict timetable. This timetable also has some 2 hrs gaps in it, where there was no shuttle service. This was a real problem as the pick up was always at least 15 minutes late and on one occasion there was a row at pick up due to there only being a car for 4 people  and there was  8 of us waiting. 4 of us who were politely queueing were rudely pushed out of the way by an Australian family who insisted that they got on the shuttle bus. This was badly handed by the taxi driver who ignore the other guests due to the bullying behaviour of the 6 foot 5 dad of the family who physically pushing the rest of us out of the way.  I was really upset and complained to the reception. I suggested that people got picked up by villa numbers and not by who was the rudest and bullyist. This was implemented the next day and worked well. Overall we had a great stay but would only return if the villas were maintained and the resort made changes to the breakfast area and to the shuttle service.  We would like to thank 2 people for excellent service. 1 was the Swept Away Restaurant Manager and the other was the lady who was the Customer Service Manager. They both made such a great effort when talking to clientelle and provided an excellent service.  So a mixed review BUT overall we were glad we stayed here. There just needs someone to update and maintain this resort so it is indeed luxury.

Dear happy1, Warmest greetings from The Samaya Ubud. Thank you very much for choosing our lovely resort as your accommodation in Bali! Thank you for sharing such a detailed review of your recent stay with us. We greatly appreciate your returning to The Samaya Ubud after your visit in 2019, and we are pleased to hear that you enjoyed the beautiful grounds, well-kept gardens, and amazing pool once again. We sincerely apologize for the issues you encountered with the villa, including the condition of the bathroom ceiling, furniture, and towels. Please know that we take your feedback seriously, and we are already reviewing the maintenance needs to ensure that our villas are consistently up to the high standards we aim to provide for our guests. Rest assured, we will address the issues you raised with our team to improve attention to detail and the overall guest experience. We had an emotional reunion last year after three years in Japan following the pandemic. I was able to stay in Samaya Ubud again this year.
It is a great relief to be welcomed by your smiles. Many of the staff have changed since we first stayed in 2012, but others have remained the same and we are really looking forward to seeing them again every year.
The breakfast menu has changed considerably this year. Japanese and Indian styles were added, and both were very delicious and surprising.
The chef came to greet me, and I was very happy with his willingness to learn Japanese and to share his thoughts on Japanese style breakfast.
From this year, some Japanese speakers have joined the staff.

Amenities have also changed considerably this year, with toothbrushes and razor handles made of bamboo.
Shampoo, rinse, etc. are Sensatia and smell very good.

Samaya's shuttle bus service is available at fixed times, but with grab taxis available, it feels like more freedom.
It's a place you'll want to go again soon.

We chose the Samaya for our honeymoon and had such a wonderful experience that we want to return in the future.

When we arrived, we were given a warm welcome and were delighted to find out that our room had been upgraded free of charge. We were taken to our room via a buggy, as the distance from the villa and reception is a bit of a walk.

They had prepared beautiful flower decorations for our arrival at the villa and even a honeymoon cake and drinks.

The villa was tranquil, clean and had every thing you would need. Its scenic surrounding and private pool felt like something out of a movie.
They provide every little commodity that you could think of, including, loofahs, bath salts, mouthwash, several mineral water bottles, razors etc. And each item gets replenished each day by the cleaners.
You get given new fresh fruit everyday and some biscuits too on occasion. The housekeeping is very thorough and considerate.

The restaurants and the views they offer are out of this world. The scene restaurant which provides breakfast has breathtaking views of the rice fields and trees, whilst the swept away restaurant which provides afternoon tea and dinner offers the stunning and relaxing riverside view. The service and food are both excellent, everything is made to perfection and the presentation is on point. Definitely recommend the special green juice and baked goods for breakfast. The coffee is lovely too!

As part of our honeymoon package, we had a candlelit dinner by the river. It felt like a dream, so much effort was put into our meal to make it a memorable and amazing experience, which it was. Special thank you to Komang for making it extra special with all the little details and for making time to discuss our preferences for that evening.

The spa was a treat, so much so that we went everyday. The women there were wonderful, a pleasure to talk to and remembered all our preferences for treatment. Me and my husband always came out feeling so relaxed yet reenergised at the same time. The spa is located next to the river which makes the spa experience all that more incredible and relaxing. The biscuits and fresh cold lemongrass water with every spa visit is the icing on the cake.

Every member of staff really go above and beyond to make it the best experience they can for you. The manager always makes time to check in and conversate. The people here are some of the most sincere and thoughtful people we have come across.
It was a bittersweet ending to the trip when saying goodbye to the staff and the beautiful Samaya. We appreciate Komang and Putu coming to say goodbye specifically. Thank you to everybody at the Samaya who made our honeymoon so special and an experience we will never forget.

We visited Ubud as our first location in Bali as we wanted to explore the sight’s of Bali.
The Samaya which has 19 luxury villas did not disappoint, upon arriving late the hotel upgraded us to the Villas overlooking the Ayung River, which was amazing.
The property location is set in a hillside within a rainforest which also overlooks a spectacular rice field and each villa has a private swimming pool.
It’s just 15 mins away from the centre of Ubud and the hotel provide a free shuttle service throughout the day, which I would recommend.
We booked massages and facials in the spa which overlooked the river, this was one of the best treatments we have had.
The service from every member of staff was outstanding and the restaurant food was incredible.
The Samaya went above and beyond to make sure that our stay was amazing and that it was the ideal way to begin our holiday when visiting Ubud. I would highly recommend staying at the Samaya.
Punta the manger deserves praise for providing such a cordial welcome and making sure everything was ideal.

Is it possible to visit the hotel pool and restaurant for the day without being a guest?

You can definitely use the restaurant as a non resident and I think the Spa was run as a facility in its own right available to anyone, even if not stating there. It has its own pool which guests don't need as each villa has its own pool
