Stopped at this hotel for dinner and was amazed. Relative newhotel after the original burnt down . Very nice atmosphere with open fireplaces up to date facilities and a meal menu to fit country people. A great variety of mains, about 20 choices from a seafood chowder to steak and pasta. Excellant service from a young staff bending over backwards to serve. Of course don't forget the old style friday meat raffle.
Well done guys.

This small pub in Violet Town far exceeded expectations, Not being on social media I couldnt find much info about Ellen Frances hotel, booked an ensuite room at rear of pub.
It wasnt just a room , it was a one bedroom apartment with a spa. microwave, toaster, crockery. cutlery, all so so neat and tidy. All staff really helpful, great meal and ambience, Have to figure a way to stay here again on my travels
Oh and able to park motorcycle under cover

Well what can I say , this transformation , it’s quite unbelievable. From a dull , unfriendly atmosphere to somewhere absolutely buzzing with people, young and old enjoying the super friendly atmosphere that Fiona has created. The food is great pub food , the staff super welcoming and friendly. At last the heart of the town is back. Come and see for yourself .

Great country pub with seperate motel rooms . Open fires in all areas and a large pool room with plenty of games for the kids. Bistro has a large selection of big meals and the food was tops..Has a bottle shop and take away food as well.

Rooms are really big with two seperate areas, great for a family.. Have big tv`s and spa baths.

Undercover parking for guests and a terrific beer garden with a beautiful garden.

Close to Shepparton, Benalla, Euroa, Strathbogie and Winton.

What used to be a highlight of our monthly visit to Violet Town on market day is no more. Sadly we discovered that new owners have taken over the lovely old Ellen Francis Hotel and the place appears to have deteriorated significantly. Firstly we were no longer able to make a booking for lunch. When we arrived at around 1230 the dining room was busy but there were a few tables available. We were directed to a table eventually by a very dismissive and unfriendly waitress then basically it was up to us to find a menu, cutlery and cold water. Apparently the air-conditioning was not working and the room was very hot on this 34degree day. We decided to stay and eat after recognising the usual chef walk through from the bar area. The menu has reduced significantly (board only) and some meals had already run out before 1pm! The place appeared semi chaotic and staff were obviously distressed and not communicating. One poor waitress was crying. The lovely kitchen garden and planters are now dying and the female toilet was grubby. What a shame to see. Our meals were average but the unfriendly lack of service was the biggest difference today.
We will eat something tasty at the famous Violet Town Market next time and would advise others to do the same.

As a place to eat or drink, there's not much wrong with this pub. However as a place to stay - forget it!

We booked a 3 person room for the (very expensive) price of $165. For that we got:
- a room with a double bed and a sofa bed
- we had to make up the sofa bed
- only two towels
- blankets that looked like they were 30+ years old
- a bathroom that was open to the living area containing the 3rd "bed"
- a heater that rattled all night
- a broken smoke detector hanging from the ceiling
- no breakfast
- a stained bath tub (which also contained the shower)

If I was paying the price of a dirty unsafe and deceitful dive, I wouldn't mind so much. But at the price of a decent hotel, it was a total rip off!

My husband and I stopped in for lunch after having a stroll through the Antique Store. Our lunch was promptly served after ordering and was freshly cooked to perfection. T-bone steak with pepper sauce and the infamous parma. Wine and beer selection is vast and atmosphere is comfortable. Thanks for a pleasant meal!

Whilst travelling from Newcastle to Melbourne, we decided to take a quick stop off the Hume Highway for lunch. We discovered "Violet Town", which soon became one of our most memorable lunches. The staff at the Ellen Frances Hotel/Motel were more than friendly and helpful creating a very homely atmosphere. The beer on tap was delicious and cold, whilst the food was simply amazing!! The best lamb and fish we have had in a very very long time.

Despite travelling across the world... This Hotel quickly became one of our favourite eateries and will definately be carved into any future drives to/from Melbourne.

Be sure to look out for the 'Violet Town" exit off the Hume.
