We had an amazing time during our 7 day trip to Chalalan. The amount of wildlife in this area is utterly astounding. We've traveled to other parts of the Amazon and had never seen such high concentrations of large birds & primates. The amount of macaws, mealy parrots, and hoatzin birds was amazing. The primate population was also impressive. We...

Chalalan was absolutely the best choice for a tour in the Amazon. After reading reviews of many other companies, I chose Chalalan due to their sustainability approach as well as their commitment to community development and wildlife preservation - which is something that many other companies operating out of Rurrenabaque don't hold up to (they feed and touch the animals)....

Chalalan has 16 years conserving biodiversity within the Madidi National Park and within the indigenous territory of San José de Uchupiamonas, owners of the hostel. In that time it has sought to reduce the environmental impact of this tourism operation avoiding both hunting and feeding of animals or other aggressive practices. We are very grateful that this component of our...

We felt as if we had been welcomed into the community's home; and their home is the rain forest. The six hour boat trip to Chalalan is an experience in itself. We saw a tapir and capabara, and many many birds, including mccaws. That is in addition to the mighty river carving the banks and throwing whole trees onto new islands....

One of my favorite trips ever; the journey there was strenuous and long, which made the visit all the more enjoyable. We arrived to the lodge and very clean and perfect huts (the prince of Denmark had once slept in our hut) after a five-hour motorized dug-out canoe ride. Then we spent five glorious days and evenings tromping around in...

We are very glad that you have had an exciting time at Chalalán. It is unusual to see snakes, but when the occasion arises, we must take advantage of it, but always with caution. The professionalism of the guides and a bit of luck have allowed that in 17 years of tourist operation, there has never been an attack of...

I went this year with two friends from Switzerland and the experience was amazing. We had an excellent local guide with perfect english. In the ecolodge the staff was amazing, very kind. The food is very good in general (fresh products from the season) and excellent breakfasts!! We could see a lot of animals, at least 4 different species of...

It was an amazing and pleasure trip with our guide Ovidio. The beautiful landscape, the daily-walking-trips through the jungle, the different flora and fauna, the delicious food in the lodge and the heartful team with our local ovidio were the best days on our tour! It was unforgettable. Thanks for all.

I throughly enjoyed my stay. The guide was very informative on the fauna and flora. We did nature walks in the day and at night, canoed, and swam. Beautiful area surrounding a pristine lake that you reach going up river. The hut was very nice, frogs visiting in the bathroom were a delight! Very special place. Ecotourism is one of...

"I have returned to Chalalan 11 times now, the first in 2005. While it is sad to see the destruction of the jungle on the Tumupasa side, Chalalan has always kept the magic of a complete ecosystem. I worry about the increasing Chinese presence and their exporting of wildlife, and especially the hydrodam that would flood the area. I will...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Chalalan is an ecological lodge located in the heart of Madidi National Park, the most biodiverse on the planet, with more than 1000 species of birds and 1000 species of butterflies, in the heart of the Bolivian Amazon. The cabins are built in the traditional style of the Tacana indigenous people, with roofs of jatata (Geonoma deversa) and walls of chonta (Iriartea deltoidea), equipped with mosquito nets, private bathrooms, with a solar energy system that feeds the whole hostel and water Hot solar thermal for 30% of the accommodations. We accommodate up to 30 guests with all the comfort in the jungle. Our specialty is the environmental interpretation walks by the beautiful trails that leave from the shelter and the routes in rowing canoe by the lagoon Chalalan. This venture effectively contributes to the conservation of biodiversity and to the economy of the indigenous people of San José de Uchupiamonas, owner of the lodge. Our hostel is on the shore of the Chalalán lagoon, has double, triple and triple cabins, a dining room equipped with a bar and a rest room. It is possible to hold workshops, events and scientific expeditions, birdwatching, fungi, amphibians or just relax in the hammocks and contemplate the lagoon from our pier and our elevated viewpoint. ... more   less
