The majority of places in the Hunter Valley were booked out or well overpriced so we looked a little further afield and found the Abermaine Hotel where we had an excellent stay.
It’s a short drive to the wineries or the hotel can arrange the hop on/hop off wine bus for you, which is a practical option.
The rooms are comfortable and clean and the shared facilities are very good. The owner and staff are friendly and helpful and the pub downstairs is lovely for a drink and a bite to eat.

We booked out the pub for a weekend in early Dec 2019 to celebrate my mums 70th. Jade was a breeze to book with over the phone/email to accomodate 17 guests. Taylah and her sous chef were amazing in the kitchen, checked in on our party and organised copious amounts of food when we needed it. Great bar & locals, great beer garden & facilities, spacious and clean rooms. Super close to the Hunter Valley Vineyards, We definitely recommend it and would 100% stay again

We stayed at the Abermaine Hotel recently for two nights with a group of 15. From the time of booking until checkout, Jade and his team were fantastic and accommodating, happy to help me sort out room arrangements for everyone.

The bistro was open Friday night for us to have dinner when we arrived and the bar and pool room downstairs got a workout! We were able to be picked up by our tour bus the next morning and make our way back in Saturday evening. Again, special mention to James in the bar for accommodating us and our bad music choices!

Aside from the 47 degree heat, Which is uncontrollable but made sure the rooms stayed quite warm overnight.

There were fans in all of the rooms however and the beds were clean and comfortable. Even the shared bathroom and kitchenette were clean and we had no issues whatsoever. The fridge was stocked with food for breakfast too which was super handy.

I was recommended this hotel by a friend who had visited the Hunter Valley previously for a weekend getaway and it was everything we had hoped for. From the moment we arrived we were greeted by the friendly staff and shown to our rooms which were so clean and nice. The hotel itself is amazing. It’s an old heritage listed pub that has been beautifully restored and looks incredible. The beer garden out the back was so nice to sit back relax and watch the afternoon pass away. A bonus is they have a kiddie room in the beer garden area which is great for families with children.
All round a great place for a weekend away or a day visit to the Hunter with the family. Will definitely be back.

We spent the day at Jazz in the Vines, and not wanting to drive back to Sydney, and going off the great reviews on trip advisor, we booked into the Abermain Hotel.

We arrived around 7pm, and were shown up to Room 3, which overlooks the courtyard. Our room was nicely furnished, as was the upstairs of the hotel. The shared bathrooms were clean. Our room didn't have air conditioning or a fan, and as it had been a hot day, we needed to keep the window open to try to cool the room and get some ventilation. We weren't aware that there would be live music on the Saturday night, but figured all would be quiet by midnight and we would get a good nights sleep.... How wrong were we!!

The rock band was loud, but they played great music and finished up at midnight. It was then the noise really started. People were hanging around in the courtyard, talking loudly. Someone put the stereo on at full volume, and the publican came out and told them to turn it off. That was the last of any attempt at noise control. During the next few hours, bottles were broken, there were arguments, someone tried to kick down the jukebox, the radio was on and the party continued in the courtyard......

At 4.30 am there were two guys left in the courtyard. I called out saying it was 4.30 am and could they please be quiet...... They apologised, one guy left and the other put on the radio! Then he started swearing at the possum out in the garden. We left shortly after, walking over signs located on the lobby floor saying "Thanks. 4.30 am. Great party"

How the management can accept paying hotel guests and then not exercise any duty of care by getting the drunken revellers off the property at midnight is quite incomprehensible to me....

Response from 1Guestreviewer, Guest Relations Manager at Abermain Hotel

These people left without paying or seeing anyone. On the same night our Hotel had every room booked out. I have checked with the other guests staying they do not agree with these comments. I have also viewed the CCTV footage and spoken to our on site manager. We have never had negative feedback and I am both disappointed and dismayed.

The pub has been really well restored. Beer, wine accommodation all great. The food was horrible. Steak, chips and salad; Barra chips and salad ordered. One hour twenty minutes after ordering I asked at the bar when the food would be ready. There were only two tables in the restaurant. Others had vacated the front bar. The steak could not have been the supposed 300grams. It was ordered medium. It turned up thin, dry with no taste. The chips seemed cooked in burnt oil as they were crusty and tasteless. Too late to be redone as we didn't want to wait for another hour. After a long drive we were looking for something decent. We were sadly disappointed. Considering the effort and cost to make the pub look great and feel special, this meal ruined the whole ambience. A horrible meal in a great setting doesn't work. I wrote an email containing the above information to the hotel and did not even receive an acknowledgement. Sad all round really.

One of my bridesmaids booked the Abermain hotel for my hens weekend in the hunter valley.

The hosts were fantastic looked after us very well and we had the whole floor to ourselves. The rooms were clean, warm and nicely decorated and we loved having the common lounge area.

We stayed for a Saturday night and the usual 'Kurri-oke' Karaoke was an added bonus. The beer garden was beautiful and we loved the pool table and juke box (the locals were great too).

The included breaky was just what we needed after a big night.

Great place to use as a base for exploring the wineries. I couldn't have asked for a better Hens weekend.

A beautiful country pub in the heart of wine country.

We recently went to the Kurri Kurri Nostaglia Festival & stayed at the Abermain Hotel which offered excellent value for money. The rooms very clean as were the shared bathroom & we had a nice little balcony that allowed for fresh air. The staff were very friendly & served a lovely full hot breakfast (included). For $100 it was a great option.

We were up in Hunter Valley for weekend with father-in-law visiting from UK. The Abermain Hotel offered excellent value for money. Rooms were simple, spacious and clean with very comfortable beds; we all slept soundly. The dinners were very tasty with traditional pub food (T-bone steaks for $7, Shepherds pie, Sausage n mash), and breakfast was delicious and filling. Hosts gave very useful local tourist info (Audrey Wilkinson winery is a must, Tatlers tapas great). Shared bathrooms was not an issue. We stayed for 1 night and for price we paid, were very happy and would not hesitate to stay again.
