Woaw, it has been nearly two years, I am traveling the world chasing the best surfcamps to improve my surfing as much as possible in the best surfspots and atmosphere. I think I found that place.
From the booking to the teaching, accomodation, vibe, everything was so nice.
The best surfcamp manager I ever met Matt and his lovely team are always listening to your needs and try to make all the compromises possible to suit everybody.
My surfing take a totally different journey, even if my board is apparently too short for me 😉
Almost everyday, after surfing we analysed the pictures of the day to correct the mistakes and set up some goals. Then Matt was always taking us to some secret places to watch sunset, to experience Lombok's life or to nice restaurants.
Days went so fast and so good that I broke my bank account to extend one more week...
Accommodation are lovely and the staff so so so nice.

Big ++ to take us to some empty line up spots, to the greedy banana pancakes, the outside shower so clean and perfect when sun is rising, all the facilities and most of all, THE TEAM.
Also, big thank to Ady who made me face my fears, pushed my limits to take some of the best waves of my life.

I definitely recommend and want to come back ❤️

Literally booked last minute and glad I did. Met a great bunch of people. Comfortable private bungalow with outdoor shower, great 2x daily surf sessions where the team takes you to different spots - beach and reef breaks often hunting the less busy ones which was amazing. I was looking for a trip to not think about where to surf and have enough time in the water and the surf camp definitely provided that.
I wasn’t a beginner and it was awesome to be challenged and the rusty paddling skills definitely improved.

Great friendly team at Kura Kura and definitely missing those daily banana pancakes!

We stayed for two weeks in the Surfcamp (extended after one because the first week was so good :-)). As we have surfed before for some time we joined the „level 2“ group. We had 1 long or two short sessions everyday at different spots. The staff always tried to find the best spot everyday to get the best conditions possible (compared to other surfcamps which always take you to the same spot no matter how the conditions are).

The surfguides and management are super nice people and we really enjoined staying with them!

We were definitely able to improve our surfing during the stay and were 100% satisfied with Kura Kura! For anyone searching for a quality Surfcamp in Kuta Lombok this is the way to go.

I’ve supposed to stay 1 week and I extended to 3. Honestly the Kura Kura feels like a second home. It’s not just the amazing facility - the rooms are stunning! - it’s the vibe in this camp. The staff, coaches and owners are outstanding welcoming and lovely. I’ve travelled by myself and I found a real community there.
The surf coaching worth it so much. 2 sessions a day, theory and I promise your surf will be much better. And it was really fun.
So all in all: thank you so much Kura Kura and we see us next year 💜

Great surf experience with tons of local knowledge. Great for advanced surfers, and those learning or easing themselves back into it. Leah and the boys very helpful and knowledgeable. Very comfortable chalet style accommodation and a pool to cool off in. The food was incredible, especially for a surf camp. We should have stayed longer!

Myself and my girlfriend stayed at kura kura for just over a week and only left because of another booking that we couldn't cancel.. this is how a surfcamp should be made, not focused on quantity (and squeezing money out of guests) like so many around, but instead keeping it nice and cozy, with a staff that showed a great ability to understand the guests' needs and a welcoming, unpretentious attitude (again, a rare thing in these sort of establishments).
We absolutely agree with previous comments: if you're thinking about learning or improving your surfing while having a great time with a 'local' feel, you will love Kura Kura!
As for ourselves, we truly hope to be back as soon as possible!!

Short version:
We stayed 10 days in Kura Kura surf camp and enjoyed every minute. Everybody was very nice and caring and we improved our surfing skills immensely. We got some health issues and we got a lot of advice and support on doctors etc. We felt better very quickly. All in all: A very caring manager and awesome instructors make for great surf and a great camp.

Long version:
The instructors are very professional local sasak people from Kuta, who are very experienced surfers. One of them also sells wonderful selfmade bracelets and sarons. We got our personal bracelets fo a special price! Amazing!

Each day we were heading to one of the local surf spots according to our skills. As we were beginners and paddled like chicken we needed to be pushed into the waves to catch them. The pushing was no problem for the instructors as they all have big triceps and biceps muscles. Also it was very convenient for us! Wow!

The manager will take photos of you to analyse your progress. This helps a lot. Also you can get the pictures for free so you can later brag on your facebook profile. I got 29 likes on my Kura Kura surf pic!!1!1!

After returning from the surf trips two wonderful Basongs welcome you. Except from one monyet who also joins the surfing lessons and some cats there are no other animals in the camp.

Different evening activities are organised. For example watching the sunset or a dinner in Kuta with the camp. They were all great fun.

On the last evening of the camp there will be a big barbeque with grilled tuna, palmwine and bintang organized by the instructors. One of them was/is also a professional singer and dancer and will teach you local traditional Nabila dancing and singing sasak style if you like.

To sum it up: Amazing times in Kuta are asured with Kura Kura!

Positive:
Nice accommodation, matress good. Place gets cleaned regularly. Area is very green and pool is being added. Nice staff. A lot of security personal.
Surf sessions are offered by Kura-Kura. To get to the spots Gerupuk and Ekas boats are organized. You usually have long longer session of 2-3 hours or two sessions of 1-2 hours with a lunch break. The teachers take photos of your surf highlights.
A lot activities are offered after surfing: bat cave visit, sun set watching, barbecue or yoga, bar hopping....

Negative:
No wifi available. Quite hard pillows, breakfast not too good/not enough, staff forgets to bring food/toilet paper etc.
Outside bathroom unnecessary. You get wet when it rains. Low water pressure in the shower. You need a scooter to get to town.
Surf teachers only explain the very basics on the first days. Afterwards they only push you in the waves and you are on your own learning to read the waves.

Hi there Took me about 2 years to reply. Must have overlooked it somewhere. Sorry about that. Thanks for the review, for both positive and negative feed back. By now the wifi is there but unfortunately still unreliable. The breakfast has improved and after another recent review we will continue to improve it :) The outdoor bathroom has now a roof above the toilet and we installed a pressure pump for better showers. Town is still as far as before although we have some more restaurants closer to us. Then last but not least , I think I can say that our surf guides improved a lot and had more training. Sometimes there is still not enough feedback but in those days you just need to ask them many questions. cheers Tim

I wished to learn how to wave surf for a long time and I cannot imagine best place (and people to do it with) as I did in Kura Kura surf camp! My wish came true on the nicest beaches, and with the nicest people. Tim and Ajas are a great teachers and fun to be around. It was a lot of surfing, a lot of paddling, a lot of fun, laugh and also some sightseeing. We stayed for 8 days and would stay longer if possible. It was really enjoyable experience all together.

The place of the camp is on perfect location to be near all the nicest south Lombok surf spots and Tim was the perfect host: he got us motorbikes so we were able to cruise from one beach to another, he took us to the best waves for beginners where we were almost alone on the waves, and he has also showed us the nicest spots around Kuta (toke us to see waterfalls, nice sunrises spots and to feed a monkeys and of course). And since he knows all the good places to eat in Kuta we were eating delicious everyday of the camp.

I can say that I didn't got just new surfs kills in this camp but also a good friend. And I can't wait to come back someday soon to some sun, surf and laugh!
