We spent 5 nights at BatuKarang Villa 25, Oct. 31-Nov. 5, 2023: we were looking for a quiet resort to get over the 16 hour jet lag from BC before meeting up with family on Bali and this resort delivered. The resort is situated on the cliff above the crystal clear water of Jungut Batu Bay. Our villa was at the top of the resort so from our deck we had a spectacular view across to the beach as well as over to the surfing area called Playgrounds. Staff were all exceptionally friendly and helpful beginning with the Reservations team who set up our Rocky Fast boat roundtrip as well as drivers from the airport to Sanur and from Sanur to our next destination. We were always greeted with a smile by everyone at the front desk, the restaurants, the housekeepers and those who transported us by golf cart up the hill to our villa. Front desk assisted with a snorkelling trip for my husband as well as money exchange. Villa – was spacious with a very comfortable king size bed, lots of cupboard/drawer storage and situated just above the lap pool where my husband did early morning swims Food – 75% of everything served is grown in their hydroponic garden Breakfast was served in the main dining area with a view out to sea – a wide variety of menu items from which to choose as well as our choice of fresh fruit juice, coffees. As a celiac, I was very happy to see the number of gluten-free options at each meal. Lunch and dinner menus were available poolside, at the Deck or Muntigs restaurants. The chef obviously takes pride in his work as each generous serving was artistically presented. We really enjoyed our time at BatuKarang and hearing about the family history from owner Alan. The only caveat: Nusa Lembongan Island is not very suitable for anyone with mobility issues as there are lots of hills, steps and uneven ground.

This is a beautiful place but it makes you work for it. Unlike my other stays in Bali, this place was inconsistent and it made me ‘work for it’. All small things but enough that I felt I could not unplug. The place is beautiful and the restaurant is truly top notch. Lots of loose ends and small but annoying enough details. 1. Service. They try. They do. But it’s not effortless. Case in point: they arranged a sunrise Nusa Penida trip for me - thank you! - Since breakfast was included in my stay I asked if I could have it when I returned or maybe have a box ahead of time. It took me talking to 6 people before getting an answer. Upon instructions I ordered a box to pick up and night. Again. It took me talking to 3 people for me to get the physical box. I would have given up if it was not for the fact that I wanted (and I did) give the box to my guide and driver since they woke up so early. 2. Fixture and attention to details is not there. - Beautiful but unpractical …staring from the toilet (flushing requires a treasure hunt. Super annoying and not hygienic). - The safe instructions are admittindlty wrong. - TV remote stopped working in day 2. Not a problem but one more data point. - No replenishment of tissues or toilet paper unless I asked. I genuinely believe they forgot but still… - One small small trash basket in the entire room. It’s where the toilet is. A door away from the sink. I realize it’s ugly but still… adding a second one might be the practical thing to do. - I checked out at 10:00 am and got kicked out Internet at noon. No problem getting a voucher code but still… I had to ask. I had to be on top of it. They knew I was leaving at 2:00 because they arrange the ferry so why not allowing me to be online until the end since they did encourage me to take advantage of the pool area? 3. Consistency. There seems to be little consistency in basic things like drinks. I had an amazing Spritz on day 1. Ah-mazing! And then one that looked and tasted like cheap flavored water on day 2. No Prosecco. A drop of Aperol. Lots of ice and water. Day and night. Bottom line: they genuinely seem to be trying their best but for the price I expected way way better.

We came in as a guest from another accommodation looking for a tasty breakfast. We enjoyed the view at this resorts cafe. My husband enjoyed a salmon Benny while I had the islander bowl. I only wish the islander bowl was chilled - the yogurt and fruit was warm. We both enjoyed an iced coffee and shared a large bottle of water. Staff were very attentive, friendly and helpful! The lower deck where we ate had a beautiful view overlooking the bay and near by beaches. Wifi was quick and easy to log into. Great spot to pop by if you just want to chill and not be in a rush :)

We loved our stay at Batu Karang. Thanks to Covid we had to delay our visit not once but twice and the staff was super accommodating and understandable. We also had to amend our reservation unexpectedly two weeks prior and again they were very reasonable. The rooms were clean and very well looked after. We loved the outdoor bathroom (although this may not be for everyone) and the view was fantastic. The restaurant was excellent (both for breakfast and dinner). There is an ice cream shop at the bottom of the resort which we also visited a few too many times. They also have a great / affordable spa which we also visited one too many times. The entire staff was very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend. One thing to note, the resort itself is set on a hill (as are most resorts close to the water) so be prepared to burn some calories getting up and down the resort. There are golf carts but we never requested rides so I’m not sure how that works or how frequently they are available. They did use the golf carts to get our luggage to and from our room for checkin and checkout which was a lifesaver. For those worried about bugs, they must fumigate the place like crazy. We were super surprised at how little bugs we saw during out week stay. Lastly, rent a scooter for sure during your stay - it was a blast causing around Nusa Lembongan and Ceningnan via scooter and made it much easier getting around to dinner and activities

Stayed 3 nights at this lovely hotel. The rooms are amazing. I absolutely loved the outside bathroom. Breakfast was very nice (not buffet) although you had to pre book a time. Evening dinner in the restaurant was really good with nice food and excellent service. It is on a hill and our room was at the top, but you could always get a golf buggy. Nice walk to the beach. Everything was perfect I would love to stay.

I cannot rate this Resort highly enough. The accommodation was high grade. The view fantastic. The surf on the reef each night to offer a calm sleep. The tiny birds that sing to me in the morning. The staff on every level were more than high grade and soooooo happy. The food was fantastic and sooo well presented. The coffee barista made me the Best coffee I had ever experienced.....and Im fussy....the Maitre De was Divine and his Service and care remarkable. The Spa ladies rejouvinated my body and soul daily. The cleaners were swift and efficient and the gardeners cheerful and focused. Luka.....the Manager who took the time to speak at length with guests was a charming man who loves his job. Im at the Airport now on my way home to Australia and miss Batu Karang since I left. Many many Thanks to everone who made my stay so Memorable.

2 nights booked. I booked a room based on what the advertised photo looks like and have seen photos of friends room when stayed here. Looked amazing. My actual room was nothing like the photo. It is very dated with old side of the road looking chipped furniture. I complained. I said I want the room I booked. Totally misleading. I paid the most for a hotel i have ever paid - a 2 star motel is better than this room. It took hours to get some sort of outcome - so my afternoon was spent waiting around by my phone for the manager to call me back. Forget time enjoying pool or beach. Precious vacation time slipping away. Offering was at my expense upgrades (discounted) but for one night only as resort full. I settled that I would pay this one night in room already in and check out next day and I want a full refund for second night as I will stay elsewhere. The room. Apart from dated furnishings - the bed is cement floor hard. Had to end up sleeping on-top of my pillows. Next day, breakfast was average. Came back to my room to rest and suddenly the fan above my bed goes nuts - I jump out of bed and the ceiling fan falls out of the ceiling!!!! Comes crashing down. Umm I could of been seriously hurt. I ring reception - a deadpan reaction - will get housekeeping to come. Actually a manager should of run to my room! Anyway no one came. So grabbed a man who works here and he did seemed shocked when he saw it. But no apology. They just took the fan away. Absolutely can’t wait to leave. Do not stay here.

LOVE LOVE LOVE This place, we have been going here for many years and as a family absolutely love it, we have even converted our friends to stay at this place as well. Relaxing, friendly and great accommodation. Every year we go we up our stay and extra night or 2. Never want to leave. Food choices are amazing, bar choices good as well. Kids have the ice cream section below near the deck and they couldn't be happier. Best place to stay to check what surf break you want to surf ( however I think I will leave this to the hubby and kids). Definitely will be back. Katut and Luca very friendly and helpful.

Honestly, my rating would probably be more like a 3.5 but I can’t give half stars so I’ve gone for 3 so that my review is hopefully read. Stayed for 3 nights at the start of July 2023. Positives: - The outdoor common areas are absolutely incredible. The pool areas, the bar area (The Deck) and the restaurant areas are well-maintained and have totally unbeatable views of the sea and the coastline - even in the bad weather! Clearly, lots of time and effort goes into maintaining these appearances and promoting these areas via social media, especially as there are many non-hotel guests who use these facilities, which is totally fine - it’s a good income stream. - The staff are generally friendly and helpful, even if their English is not always as polished as other similarly-priced hotels in Bali. We had a last minute boat cancellation and the staff really went out of their way to find a solution and rebook us on one that suited our plans. - Prices in the bar and restaurant are pretty decent for the quality you get, and definitely more acceptable than those in Ohana’s, for example. - Organisation with the Kai Koa boat from Sanur was excellent. - Breakfast was tasty and substantial Negatives: - The simple truth is that this hotel is just NOT worth the price when it comes to the rooms themselves. We paid about 260 euros per night for a one bedroom villa (without private pool) - the most expensive hotel during our time in Bali. The room looks impressive upon entry but it quickly becomes clear that it is just SO dated and quite rough around the edges with the fixtures and fittings. Soundproofing is poor and when it rains, the noise is just ridiculous. Towels are worn and thin. Water temperature is temperamental, and it never really gets cold. Some minor black marks on sheets. Worst of all, on our last morning as we were leaving, we noticed several ants in our bed. We did not leave doors and windows open and had the mosquito net on each night. This is obviously pretty worrying and left a sour note, and as we had to leave early that same day couldn’t really address it to fix it. In our opinion, you are paying for the view really and the convenience of staying in a ‘proper’ hotel on an island which doesn’t really have them. We get the impression that the hotel is really quite complacent because they think guests will just come and stay because there’s no similar alternative on the island, and the prices match this. If there was a real, modern competitor with up-to-date rooms, this hotel would quickly suffer at these prices. We stayed at other five star hotels for less money that were much better - Adiwana Bisma in Ubud, for example. Just compare the rooms there with here! Basically, come here for the social areas (which the hotel clearly prioritise over the rooms), but don’t pay for a room here expecting quality matching the VERY high price tag - you will be disappointed. - When booking direct, you have to pay 50% through some weird third party platform that just screams ‘scam’. I’ve never had to do this before. We actually had to double check via phone and email before putting payment details in because we were so concerned. It was fine in the end, but this is just another example of something that is fairly antiquated about this hotel and just shouldn’t be part of a 260 euro a night hotel experience. - The food in the restaurant could be a little better. Again, it’s not really ‘premium’, just ‘good’.
