In the most tranquil of settings you will be looked after by the friendliest staff. They offer beautifully cooked food in the restaurant and the best massages in the world! The resort has a very well equipped gym which I used on a daily basis. We considered doing some of the many excursions that they willingly recommend and book for you, but in the end just staying and relaxing was all we needed. The beach walk and many restaurants are very close but take’s about 20 minutes taxi, if you fancy the buzz of the seafront. It’s faster coming back when the roads are clear. They are very cheap and easy to book on your phone through the ‘Grab’ app or the staff will happily book for you. We walked out around the back streets of the village. Everyone seems very friendly, the beach isn’t far to walk. Black volcanic sand and a stiff breeze in August. We can highly recommend a stay at The Samata Retreat. Where you will arrive feeling very welcomed and leave feeling very relaxed.

The staff is very friendly and helpful, always super attentive and helping with whatever we needed. The facilities are a luxury and the breakfast is great too. If I return to Bali it is very likely that I will repeat. The only drawback may be the location, but with how easy and cheap it is to get around it wasn't a problem.

We arrived at The Samata after taking a tour throughout Bali and the truth is that it was a success. Although the location of the hotel is not entirely good, the service they provide, the staff and the facilities are unbeatable: very good swimming pools and very well-kept gardens... The gym is also spacious and well-kept. On the days we were there the weather was good, but it also rained (it was rainy season). But the hotel has facilities so you can continue enjoying: even if it rains, you can continue lying in the pool area since they have covered spaces with all the details. We also enjoyed a good traditional Balinese massage, and the experience was very rewarding. It is a small hotel where they make you feel at home. The rooms are huge, and with all the details. New air conditioning and in perfect condition. Cleanliness of the hotel is unbeatable. The staff makes everything easy for you. And when I say everything it is that they care about your comfort. They managed the different activities that we wanted to do in the five days we stayed: diving, rafting... and all of this in very good conditions. They take care of the tourist as if he were a family member of theirs and with complete professionalism. After the route we did the previous five days, the stay at this hotel allowed us to relax, recharge our batteries and return home full of energy. In the five days we stayed we had breakfast, lunch and dinner at the hotel. And the food was very good. It is not worth leaving the hotel to eat, since they have a fairly complete menu with all types of food. We have no words to thank all the staff: Angga, Novia, Maha, Putra… and also the rest of the staff….thank you so much for everything!!!

Customer service and staff was really helpful! From the moment we checked in to attending to our request, staff was really prompt reply and attentive. I would give 10/10 for customer service. From outside, all looks really nice , etc landscape and the design of the house etc, impressive !
However, room and facilités need to be more well maintain. For room, we are really pleased that hotel provide free upgrade and the house keeping was ok. However, The room is very old as we can see signs of run down and paint is piling off , room tiles and private jacuzzi looks old with tiles seemed to be stained badly. For the trash bin, we found thick cobwebs. Housekeeping need to be more thorough
For the private pool, there is many leaf inside the swimming pool. For sharing pool, we found quite a lot of dead insect (etc millipede) inside the pool. pool may require some serious cleaning up.

The hotel is quite remote. It will easily take you an hour or more to get to Sanur beach. So not an option in this busy traffic. We were received nicely, but after seeing the spa room we felt trapped in a gloomy space. It was a very large room with an ensuite, an equally gloomy, very large bathroom with a shower in the bath and 2 massage benches. Very small balcony with 2 small low chairs. Views of buildings, a moldy wall and a swimming pool that no one used. So no view of the rice fields. You can see this from the restaurant and the beautiful elongated swimming pools in front of it. All in all, a gloomy complex that is certainly not suitable for people, like my wife, who are less mobile. Lots of stairs and a slope. We left again the same day. Too bad about the money, because of course we lost it. So, in our opinion, not a recommendation. Oh yes, a massage here is extremely expensive by Balinese standards.

If you want some peace and quite away from crowds this the place to be.
Loved the traditional style villa. It was a two bedroom villas where the two bedrooms are on each side of the villas quite away the one from the other.
Loved the open shower and as well as the open air living area.
Breakfast was served in the villas.
The best part are the swimming pool of the resort which are top with great views.
We had lunch once day but it was just ok nothing special.
Not very far from the new Mall.
Very nice to go there.

A dream holiday and wonderful relaxing resort with happy, friendly staff, beautiful views across rice paddies to the nearby beach. Lovely room and delicious breakfasts. Awesome free 1hr.massage. Great gym ,plus pool table too. 3 for 2 cocktail hour was fun by the amazing pools. Our free BBQ Dinner by the pool was so romantic and delicious.A$5 taxi(15 mins) to Sanur village for excellent shopping, heaps of great restaurants and bars and an amazing beach. Local beach is quiet with great surfing waves. Go left at beach for 500m to “Beach Break cafe” for cold beers and yummy, cheap meals with an awesome view👍 It’s black volcanic sand and hot so wear sandals. Sad to see a lot of rubbish along the beach..just hope the big local school & council can show initiative and do a regular clean up. Go right and across shallow river mouth for a nice 1/2 hour stroll into Sanur village beach bars, shops and market.🤔..it’s an old, wealthy area & stately colonial Dutch /Balinese homes . Lovely stroll along local lanes .. incredible gardens and front gates. Nice selection of very interesting books on Bali/ Indonesia .. plus a small swap library. Great internet service. Thankyou to all the lovely staff at The Samata Sanur for our most relaxing Asian holiday..just perfect 🙏

Dear Rayza50, Thank you for leaving such a wonderful comment for The Samata! We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay and the amazing service delivered by our staff. Thank you for highlighting some of our interesting features, including BBQ dinner, gymnasium as well with our pool table. We are sorry to hear your less than satisfactory experience with the beach cleanliness, however we believe that the local government at that area will definitely work on it in for the improvements. Again, it was certainly a pleasure for us to be at your service and we look forward to welcoming you again soon to The Samata! With my best regards, Novia Prabawati & The Samata Family Asst. The Samata is actually nowhere near the centre of Sanur, located off a multi lane highway about 15 minutes drive away. It offers beautiful accomodation in green well kept surroundings, a total of 3 swimming pools and a large but dated gym. We were upgraded to a villa which came with its own plunge pool. The room cost included breakfast. It has a western inspired restaurant and I was looking forward to enjoying all the meals there. The breakfast is not a luxury experience, fruit juice comes from a supermarket shelf, meal sizes are for those on a restricted diet. A pot of tea comes with a tea bag. We ended up driving to Sanur every day for lunch and dinner .

Very comfy bed, surround mozzie net, although unnecessary. All the rooms are large suites with sofas or villas with private pool.
I had a suite above the gym overlooking a long lengths exercise pool. In the gym they even have a boxing ring...there were some seriously fit people in there, so good enough for me.
Didn't eat much there but breakfasts yummy.
Once staff get over initial shyness, they are amazingly helpful. Use WhatsApp with housekeeping to get whatever you need: stock minibar, make up room, room service, arrange anything.
Location great to be close to beach, Ubud only 30 mins drive, Sanur 10 minutes.
Great stay, thanks team 🙏😃
