May 2011 – approximately 50 baht = 1 GBP. I live and work in Thailand and have been to Hua Hin several times previously but the ‘Bluewave’ is my first hotel booking in this particular location. Hua Hin is the top end of the tourist spots and so is expensive. We were quoted just under 4000 bahts for a three night stay on the internet, but on arriving at the hotel unannounced, the price had gone up to a whopping 7,500 bahts for the three nights!

Seeing our shocked looks, they offered my Thai partner and I a 200 baht reduction per night and we finally settled for two nights at a grossly inflated 4,600 bahts. (Normal room, two single beds and breakfast). I wonder if this is some kind of record for hotel overcharging? (‘Bluewave’ management please take note and don’t assume that everyone with a white face doesn’t know they’re being fleeced, especially when accompanied by a Thai National)!

The restaurant on the second floor is good and good but overpriced by Thai standards and a foot massage outside at 300 baht must be a record for anywhere in Thailand. A quiet location, a rather dated but clean and comfortable hotel and as a plus, the breakfast served between 6 and 10am is one of the best I have encountered anywhere – five star. Motorcycle or car hire to get about is a must. My advice is pay in advance and be certain you know who’s pocket it’s going into!

this hotel is not the height of luxury but it is more than adequate especially for how cheap it was.
the rooms are very big with a nice balcony with sea views, the place was clean, comfy bed and a very effective a/c! the tv was a bit old and received very little English channels. other disappointment was that they weren't showing the euro football despite having a large TV in the foyay and having the scores up and ticka tate up all over the place!
the breakfast was very nice, with cereal, toast, eggs freshly cooked, fruit, juice and a thai food option.
the pool was lovely and cold to cool off in! beach bars and restaurants were the cheapest we found and very tasty! the sea was disappointing, was warm but very cloudy and the sand was a little sharp. good for a dip but not much else. at least takieb beach doesn't have rocks like hau hin beach.
the hotel is miles from the centre of town and getting anywhere is quite tricky. they do offer a free shuttle though which we used frequently! enjoyed riding on the beach as well very fun!

Currently on a one-year tour around the world, we are now staying at the Blue Wave Resort for three months. It's steps from the beach, the staff is wonderful and Hua Hin is a great little city. But I would strongly urge everyone to skip a visit to the Hua Hin Hills Winery. We witnessed horrific elephant abuse by the mahout as he severely punctured the elephant's head with the bullhook for straying three feet over to pick leaves off a tree. It was just horrible as we noticed the elephant's head was bloody and gouged from past beatings. We told him to immediately return to the boarding platform and tried to explain to the him and the staff why we were so upset. Please do not go to this "attraction".

I'm sure the Blue Wave was once a nice hotel. But the passing of time and management neglect have left the hotel a shadow of it's former self.

You can see the potential. It is a beachfront property in Khao Takiab. The rooms are of a good size. But it seems everything is rotting away. To be fair, I would not say the lace is unclean. With what they are given, I think the housekeeping staff does a good job. But all the cleaning in the world does not make up for lumpy beds, ancient furnishings, and leaky, noisy aircon units.

Current management seems to have decided that their guests are borderline criminals, so they have coupons and sign-out processes for everything possible. On check-in, you receive half a dozen or so of these documents. Towel sign-in/sign out forms (don't lose it, or they assume you've checked out a full set of (faded, unraveling) towels, and you get charged 400 baht per towel if "stolen". Breakfast coupons (why anyone would want to steal their food is beyond belief). Water vouchers. Whatever.

We made the mistake of waiting to long to make our reservations, and this was all we could find. Shame on us

very disappointed with blue wave stayed for two nights. On storing our bag before we left, the receptionist produced a room bill for laundry of bath towel 500 Baht [£10]. The towel had been used in a panic to wipe up red wine, and hotel policy is apparently to charge a set 500 Baht for a damaged towel. Half an hour later when we came to pay, another 300 Baht had been added!! The receptionist was now accusing us of messing the bed sheet and that was absolutely untrue! So we asked to see the evidence as we really did think they were trying it on. We saw the items, and agreed the towel was stained but no way would laundering cost 500Baht to make it clean. Also, we looked at the duvet, which had a few grass grains and leaves on and in the end they agreed to take off the second charge. It was very difficult and embarrassing. We were very upset, and felt we were treated badly by the hotel. I have to say I think there has been some dishonest and underhand activity. They were just trying it on, to get more money. Everywhere in Thailand has been lovely, except for this hotel where we think their overbearing accusations were upsetting and unprofessional. We have written to the hotel but not had a reply, so be warned!!!

What a mistake, booking this hotel. The room is so basic, not even a kettle to make a drink, the bed was like sleeping on a plank and the air conditioning was louder than engine noise on an aircraft.
Breakfast was ok and the small pool area looked quite attractive.
The reservation was for 3 nights, but 1 night was more than enough!

From the outside this hotel looked bleak, a monolithic grey concrete block which reminded me of an inner city housing block in Glasgow. Reception and entrance didn't exactly add to the ambience either, but surprisingly enough the rooms were very clean and modern.

A pleasant restaurant area with good food and service, although nowhere near as good as the restaurants in town. The pool overlooked the beach area, which was the hotel's biggest plus point. The beach was fairly quiet and free from vendors, but there were enough beach bars around without making too much noise. Horse riding on the beach was also available, the long open spaces being excellent for galloping along. The kids loved the beach, when the tide was out there were all sorts of creatures left in the pools, including hundreds of tiny hermit crabs, as well as the occasional tiny octopus.

The downside is that you're a long way from anywhere and once the beach huts close down at sunset there's not a lot going on. There isn't much in the way of entertainment at the hotel and catching a taxi into town is a little tricky as it means walking to the main road through pitch-black streets (or waiting a long time for a taxi to be called to the hotel).

The pool is also very poor for this level of accommodation, its far too shallow and completely unsuitable for any adult over 1m high. Fine for kids to splash around though.

Great place for families, but for a bit more life look elsewhere.

Excellent location near best beach in Hua Hin. Family Mart and 7eleven within 500 meters. Restaurants at beachfront, but visit Khao Takiab fishing village for fresh and cheap seafood. 1 kilo scallops, 1 kilo big shrimps, some squid and crabs, water almost 1200 thb...
Blue Wave has got very polite staff, but the hotel is old, but under recontruction.
From Thursday to Sunday almost always full of busses with guests from Bangkok.
Visits to Hua Hin midtown is possible by small green vans...
I love Blue Wave Hotel....

Right at the south end of Hua Hin
The Blue Wave is located beach-front on a 5 km long beautiful sandy beach.
Near enough to explore the town, but at the same time far enough away from the main tourist areas to allow the freedom of a somewhat peaceful beach.
This is a modern hotel with extremely helpful and friendly staff. Our Air-Conditioned room on the tenth floor was cleaned and valeted every day by 2 smiling girls.
There is also a personal safe located at the 24 hr reception.
One of the things we really liked about this hotel, is not only its
position on the beach, but it is also at the end terminal for the bus route into town,
This meant that every evening was an adventure to take the local bus (10 Bth ) into Hua Hin explore the town and return. There are a few restaurants in close proximity as well as a number of road side food vendors, which we used frequently ,(no ill effects)
The Pool on the second floor was also good to dip into on returning from the beach.
The Hotel is also just a few hundred yards from Monkey mountain and its Temple.

The location is right on the beach and the rooms are up to date. Always book this hotel online through one of the booking sites, as they will not honor match in person. For the price paid, they should update the fact that the internet doesn't work in the rooms. The room was ok; roomy and the AC worked great. Overall just letdown with price compared to what you get (no internet, small elevators, location to restaurants, and such)! Will not stay again unless the price drops a lot! Just not worth what you have to pay to stay there!
