If your taste is for beige rooms and breakfast buffets then you have plenty of choice along the main drag of Hua Hin where the international hotel chains fringe the beach as they do everywhere from Acapulco to Waikiki. Your view will be the same too, you’ll have the ocean to the front and behind your room will be a tasteful salted caramel. But five minutes down that road is something different, because five minutes further along that road is the real Hua Hin.

This is a town which grew as Thailand’s first beach resort, as a place to get away from it all without really being too far from it all. It was the choice of royalty, like Brighton in Britain or the Hamptons for regal New Yorkers. Banyan Resort embodies this spirit of Hua Hin - its hushed walkways , its lush gardens, its easy elegance make for a stay where time simply ceases to matter and the world is at arms length, like a soothing drink - there only when you need it.

The villas are well spaced and spacious, the gardens mowed and manicured with private pools shimmering between. If you have a phone and opposable thumbs then you have all you need for a an unbeatable retreat - food deliveries arrive from town in minutes, taxis too, your villa will be serviced, your laundry will return the next day. And if you fall for this Arcadia, as many before you have, the are even plots for sale to play your god and build your private paradise.

At a time like this, at any time really, who doesn’t want to press the pause button? It’s there, head south out of town for five minutes...until you stop.

I visited with my friends way back in 2015. Excellent resort with great villas with attached pools . The whole resort has great walk areas and a relaxing atmosphere and ideal for a relaxing vacation. Night time it’s beautiful amidst the darkness of the night little lights from the villas adorned the resort. Breakfast was complimentary with a grand spread. Great staff and a lovely quiet place to visit

BANYAN
After choosing Thailand as our next holiday destination, and months of trawling the internet looking for our "perfect" holiday destination, we decided that the Banjan Resort in Hua Hin, fitted the bill perfectly, for both myself and my wife, and of course, our two children.

To be honest, our 16 day visit to Hua Hin, and saying at the Banyan Resort, has made me feel, somewhat disappointed.
No, not the personal service, or the wonderful, spacious villa, the jacuzzi, or even the enormous swimming pools. No, none of that.
What disappointed me most, was the small number of negative, petty, immature and certainly unjustified comments and reviews made by some pretty sad, desperate and downright pathetic individuals on Tripadvisor.
I mean, why even BOTHER even writing in your review, that your aircon broke down ? You even wrote in your own review, that there was an engineer there in 15 minutes to fix it.
The tap in the bathroom was hard to turn......oh my god, what IS it with you people? WHY EVEN WRITE THESE THINGS? What IS the point? Instead of finding every single small nitpicking excuse to have a pop at someone, is it beyond your intelligance to find something sensible to write, even something positive or nice, maybe ? From those very few inane and immature comments i have had the displeasure of reading, it appears that these sad individuals are obviously accustomed to living in a 10* Hotel, but in reality, probably live in a cave, surrounded by their favourite drawings.

From the moment our family arrived at Banjan Resort, I can honestly say, hand on heart, that we were all treated with the greatest of respect and courtesy, the attitude and service level from ALL the staff, has been exceptional to say the least. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and every request(however challenging), was always greeted with a smile.

Our villa was, well, magnificent to put it mildly. Spacious, very clean, 2 bathrooms, and a sliding door leading to a small terrace, and subsequently a huge, long swimming pool, were we all had hours of fun, from early morning until late at night.

With golf type buggies regularly wizzing around the resort, hitching a lift to the restaurant was a regular event, and we of course took advantage of the free shuttle bus to both Hua Hin and the beach, on numerous occasions.
One of the highlights for us, was when the restaurant staff gathered to sing happy birthday to my wife, and served us afternoon tea (English of course) and a specially made birthday cake. Delightful experience indeed.

The on site, Lemongrass Restaurant served us wonderful food on a couple of occasions and even served in our room one day, after yet another tiring shopping trip in town. And they even took away the dirty dishes !!!

One comment, repeated on a few occasions by previous guests, was that the resort was "too far" from town, or difficult to get to. Yes, the resort is around 5km from the centre of Hua Hin, but where do you expect a resort to be? In the middle of the high street, next to the local supermarket ?
A taxi, or Tuk Tuk as we preferred costs just £3/$4 for door to door service, picked up from your villa. Now, in my opinion, anyone who objects to paying such a paltry fee for such a service should't even BE on holiday if they begrudge this ridiculously cheap transaction. Get over it.

All in all, our visit to Banyan Resort, turned out to be a very wise decision indeed, thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it, and will leave all with fantastic memories of a great holiday.

We would certainly recommend Banyan Resort to anyone.

Firstly I should start by saying that having started our holiday in Dubai, then Chiang Mai and then Bangkok we had experienced nothing short of excellence, so I guess our expectations were going to be high ahead of our trip to Hua Hin. In addition the existing reviews meant we were really looking forward to our week in Hua Hin.

Sadly our experience did not meet those expectations, and worse still this was the most expensive accommodation of the whole trip.

On arrival we found a lovely reception area but did note the fact that staff seemed less friendly when compared to the people we met in Northern Thailand, not a great problem, things were OK and we were quickly checked in. My view of this did change through the week when we met Nok and Murphy both of the management team who were an exception to the above comment.

We were provided with a 2 bedroom villa with a very small private pool, much smaller than the images shown on the website. The villa was OK and spacious but we quickly noticed little things such as stains on the curtains and soft furnishings. It just wasn’t quite right from a quality point of view.

The first real problem was with the shower in the bathroom, which 1) could not be adjusted in terms of height and 2) kept fluctuating between hot and cold without warning. We reported this to reception and member of the maintenance team was sent, but still the water problem was never fixed, even after three repeat visits. In addition the outside light to the villa did not work which was a nuisance when coming in and out and despite reporting this 3 times no one came to fix that problem.

Minor points I agree however we missed one major thing in cleanliness until 3 days in when we went to use the microwave. What we found inside was disgusting, a set of corn cobs left from the previous tenants with maggots inside and flies. My wife immediately called housekeeping who sent someone to investigate. Because of this and the other nigilly issues reported we were offered a new villa which we accepted after 3 nights.

Thankfully the new villa was a bit better and looked a bit more like those on the website with access to the long shared river pool so some improvement. Even then however the outside Jacuzzi for our villa did not work and there was a bad smell coming from the drains. The room had free wireless Internet access which is very welcome but the reliability is poor and the service worked intermittently. It just seems that the house-keeping and maintenance services on the complex are not at the standard they should be.

Aside from the accommodation there were some other issues. Firstly the site is a long way from Hua Hin and the shuttle services do not operate to the town frequently. Hours are 8.00, 10.00, 14.00, 17.00, 20.00 and 22.00. You need to book onto the bus early as there are only 14 seats and as we found out if you try and book the 17.00 after 10.00am you are not getting on, and you are getting a taxi for 250 baht one way! Really for a complex this size and this far out of town, a better bus service should be provided.

On site there seemed to be very little happening, the place seemed deserted which was a real disappointment for the children. If you have kids this place is not child friendly at all, there are very little activities and things for them to enjoy. Indeed the hotel advertise that they have an “extensive” DVD collection, so when the kids went to have a look (on a rainy afternoon) they were provided with a box of six DVDs all of them in Thai and not suitable for children at all. When talking with Murphy one of the onsite management she did say that “next year when you come back we will have lots of activities for the kids”. Sadly I don’t think we will be coming next year certainly not at the prices charged and based on this experience.

If you are taking kids my advice is to get the shuttle bus to the beach. Walk 200m up the beach and you will find a hotel where you can rent a sun lounger for 500 baht for the day, but the thing is for that you get a meal with drinks, and access to their excellent pool which is geared up for families.

There is one restaurant – The Lemongrass – which also acts as the bar. Sadly the in house material is confusing as it lists the Hole 19 bar as a separate bar. When we asked to go there we were taken to the restaurant and when questioning this we were told it is the same place. The place was empty and there is no atmosphere, yet at breakfast during the weekend the place is heaving and there is a complete free for all pushing and barging for food!! The restaurant itself is quite good, I recommend the Duck Curry but it’s very expensive when compared with eating in Hua Hin itself.

One final point I would make is that communication and requesting information here is quite trialsome. Most staff speak basic English but any out of the ordinary requests are often greeted with confusion like the example with the bars. One prime example of this was with regards to hiring a motorcycle. I wanted to rent a bike so the day before I asked at reception if they could recommend any particular company. The guy at reception spoke good English and stated that they would organise a bike to be delivered for 9.30am the next day and the price was agreed. So the next day at 9.30 I turn up to find no bike, and the girl on reception simply said sorry the company do not answer, and told me I would have to “look in town”. It took over an hour of ringing round and getting the manager involved to sort the problem out and eventually it was agreed that I would take the shuttle bus into town to an agreed dealer. The issue was we wasted a lot of time because we were told one thing and no action was taken.

On another occasion when traveling to the beach for the first time I asked if there were changing rooms at the beach, so as to decide whether to take to towels etc. I was asked, do you want to change bus, do I want to go to a different beach and even do I want to know if I can get coffee at the beach. This kind of confused conversation was the norm here except with the management staff who had excellent English.

Please don’t get me wrong I am not so arrogant to say everyone in non English speaking countries should speak perfect English, what I am saying however is that if you do not speak Thai you may find some communication difficult here as not all the staff are strong English speakers and the place is more geared up for local visitors and perhaps not international visitors.

What I would point out is that the exception to the above is the local management team, Nok and Murphy were very friendly throughout and tried to help where they could but sadly the problems mentioned still happened. When we left we were presented with a gift of chocolate brownies from the gift shop. This was a really nice gesture on their behalf.

Overall this was a disappointing end to an otherwise fantastic trip to Thailand. I am not sure whether I would visit Hua Hin again, it was nothing special when compared with Chiang Mai and the North but if I did I think I would want somewhere a bit more central, with higher standards of customer service throughout (not just management) and with a housekeeping team that were a little more switched on.

Disappointed with the villa. We stayed in room 2023, the wifi is bad and the aircon in the master bedroom is warm and making a loud noise. Is unbearable, cannot have a proper sleep thru out the night. Next morning, inform the reception and they get the technician to repair it but it was beyond repair. They have not checked the room properly before putting the guest into the room. They then upgrade us to a pool villa, which is acceptable but there are no pool lights if you decide to have an evening swim. Walking around the estate most of the equipment is run down.
Morning breakfast below par, service not very good and staffs don't replenish the food.
I have to compliments the front desk staffs, they are quick into looking at the problems that we are having.

This hotel is in a very nice setting well appointed gardens and well maintained property but however 4/5 it's not . The most leading thing is be careful what you book and what you get ! We booked a 2 bed villa with a pool we believed that to mean a 2 bed with our own pool , upon arrival we we shown to a very nice 2 bed villa with access to what we were told is a shared pool .Whilst not happy with this we excepted it as our villa was one of only 3 bordering the shared pool. Each villa having access to the pool with a jacuzzi spa , however this is not the case the pool we thought was for 3 villas ! This is for any one and every to use as we discovered with badly behaved noisy people in the pool . The water pressure is non existent almost a drip at times as is the Internet continually having to reconnect impossible to deal work e mails not acceptable in this day and age of modern technology . The bed is painfully hard sleeping on the door is a good as the bed .The villa needs maintenance the pug in bathroom not working , pool needs cleaning . The air con wasn't working took 3 hours and 3 phone calls and still not great . The staff are fairly good however a number of them in the restaurant don't speak English strange for a hotel that's won enter national awards . The wine menu non existent with a choice of 2 over priced poor quality house wines poured from 2 liter bottles . Buffet nights leaves no choice for any al carte menu . I travel for a living and was disappointed with this hotel as it is misleading in what you get certainly not 5 star a poor 4 star at best .

The Banyan Resort is lovely and we especially enjoyed the long pool snaking its way between the bungalows. The service was great and the bungalows very nice and clean. We were also very satisfied with the food, both at the small restaurant by the main pool and the main restaurant by the reception.

Thank you very much for your review and for sharing it on TripAdvisor, this means a lot to all the team and rest assured that every guests comments are shared with all our Banyan colleagues. It has been my experience, and I am sure you would agree, that great hotels are not really about locations, grand architecture or bountiful amenities, but simply about the dedicated people that they employ to represent them at all levels. We reiterate our gratitude for your support and look forward welcoming you soon again.

The pool villa's at Banyan are a surprising luxury, on arrival I was amazed at the size of the lounge room and bedroom, and also a great 4m private pool. The food at the resort is of high quality, and breakfast menu has a great range catering to all tastes. Staff are very friendly, and the price is great value for money, and significantly less than comparable properties in Hua Hin.

My wife, 6 year old daughter and I have traveled to Thailand from China for vacation many times in the past few years. We like Thai food, Thai hospitality, Thai weather, etc. This was our first vacation in Huahin. We thoroughly enjoyed the BanyanResort, as well as Huahin.

LOCATION: We liked the location close to town. Quiet, uncongested, and peaceful. Banyan Resort is located a short 5 minute drive from the center of Huahin and the local multi-story shopping mall. We always rent a car in Thailand so that we have freedom to do as we please. The fee is reasonable in Huahin, but if you'd rather not drive, taxi's are available.

RESORT, ACCOMODATIONS & LONG POOLS:
In the section of the Banyan Resort where we stayed for a week, the resort's low density villa resort layout is complemented by wonderful long swimming pools [~50m] and a jacuzzi embedded wihin the pools for each villa. This provides a wonderful view at night and a terrific convenience as well. It was great to step outside our backdoor and walk three steps into the pool. Our daughter either swam in the long section or played in the jacuzzi section while my wife and I swam lap after lap in the late afternoon, shaded from the sun. For those who like more sun, they can swim earlier in the day.

The 2 BR 2 bath villas have a very large spacious living/dining room and large bathrooms. The bedrooms are ample size with builtin closets. A flat panel TV in the Living room and regular TV in the master bedroom. Large open design with lots of light through the high windows in the Living/dining area. We like to prepare our own breakfast and have extra fruit and snacks for eating during the day. The villa kitchen was fine for this, including refrigerator, stove and water boiler. The beds were comfortable.

The ambience of the Banyan was quiet and peaceful. We were close to the edge of the resort with a view of mountains and an adjacent grove of trees. it was nice getting the feel of nature and the earth in the resort. It was relaxing and enjoyable.

LEMONGRASS RESTAURANT:
After our late afternoon swim we would discuss whether to eat at the resort restaurant or drive into Huahin for the many food options in town, on or off the beach. What was surprising was about half the time we decided to eat at the Resort's LemonGrass restaurant because we liked it so much.

Most resort restaurants are a bit expensive and offer standard fare. Not the LemonGrass, which was quite reasonable and offers an extensive menu. The Banyan must have a great chef and it must be well managed because of the food's consistency. There was one dish that we liked so much we ordered it every time, lunch or dinner, weekday or weekend, and it was consistently prepared in a delicious manner by whoever was cooking, which was likely not the same person on the varied occasions we ate it. The Stir Fried noodles with seafood, chili and basil was delicious and filling after our swim and it was a repeat treat. We would add other dishes with it to make for delicious thai meals every time with zero complaints or disappointments.

Other dishes we thoroughly enjoyed at LemonGrass included: 1 The lobster bisque, rich and tasty, but not too rich so it didn't fill us up before the main courses. 2 Green curry chicken, which we order at every restaurant because we like it so much. We have eaten this dish in more than 20 thai restaurants. The LemonGrass version of Green Curry Chicken was absolutely delicious, with a hearty mix of chicken and the usual peas and eggplant. We have found with other restaurants the curry can taste great, but the veggies are often not cooked enough so they are sometimes inedible. The LemonGrass version's veggies were cooked perfectly and delicious.. 3 Prawn in red curry was a nice change, rich and tasty, not too hot, per our request. 4&5 We eat a lot of fish, and although we liked the Steamed snapper in chili and lime sauce, we kept coming back to the grilled seabass in lemon caper sauce. Both were Delicious. 6 we tried the mixed Thai appetizers several times, and were not disappointed. Other restaurants usually make them greasy and oily, and the chicken often has a strong chicken flavor that my wife doesn't like. The LemonGrass version was not greasy or oily and the chicken satay was soft and tasty without the strong chicken flavor. We both loved the satay peanut sauce.

GOLF COURSE & CLUBHOUSE:
Although we don't play golf, a friend suggested we check out the golf course. When we arrived, we understood why. It has a stunning contemporary clubhouse that looks like something Frank Lloyd Wright could have designed. Truly an awesome designed. The clubhouse restaurant overlooks the golf course with an even more stunning view for hundreds of kilometers all the way to mountains on the distant horizon. The food was excellent, with a view so incredible we didn't want to leave. Golfers will surely love the course, voted "best new golf course in Asia", but even if you don't play golf, go there for lunch or catch it during sunset for dinner. You will not forget it.

MANAGEMENT & STAFF:
The staff at the Banyan provided Thai friendly service with a smile. Something I also noticed was that the resort is well managed. Security was professional, careful and consistent. A bit unusual in Thailand.

We loved the experience, food, pools and accomodations at Banyan Resort and are going back to Huahin to stay at the Banyan for our next visit. A new General Manager, Richard Mehr, came on board during the middle of our stay. He has excellent experience, a great attitude and is very capable, approachable, friendly and responsive. My impression is that Swiss GMs such as him are among the best in the world. He understands the challenges of managing for five star service in Thailand and has ambitious plans for the resort. His goal to delightfully surprise guests with unsurpassed service.

FOR CHILDREN:
Our daughter likes to move around, so we found horseback riding on the public beach in town, which provided her first experience on a horse. We went back once for that after making friends with the lady who "rented" the horse. She trotted alongside as she guided our daughter on her first fearless fun horseback riding experience. This was memorable.

There are several places for elephant rides. The one we went to was a bit of a drive, but worth it. They had a longer version, but we took the short 30 min option, which we enjoyed. We've done this before in Phuket and it was uncomfortable for me because of the hard seat. This one had a padded seat and was quite fine. Our daughter didn't want to leave because the staff allowed her to hang out and play with a baby elephant they had tethered nearby.

Our Banyan resort Huahin was a great experience. We recommend the Banyan to all without hesitation. They have overcome their initial startup challenges, are exceedingly well managed now, have a great offering and deliver it professionally with a smile.

We check in on 2nd May and check out on 3rd May 2017.  This is the lousiest hotel swimming pool I have ever been to.  I call front desk three times on 2nd to express my dissatisfaction with the pool and all i get is we will inform the enginners etc...They did not clean the pool.  The following day they came to clean at 10am but we are about to leave.  I feel rip off cuz we wanted to relax N use the pool for privacy but instead we keep complaining to no avail.  This is the first time and last time i will be staying @ this Banyan Resort Hotel Hua Hin. We are completely dissatisfied with it.

The pool isn't private unless you have a private pool villa. The jacuzzi is in a pool "canal" going through the resort. I think it is possible to get a massage in the villa.
