We had booked well in advance and wanted to stay in a villa instead of a hotel so we chose and booked 5 nights at four winds after a 5 night stay at La Rocher eco retreat not too far away.

The property itself is beautiful. The views are sublime with full panoramic views of rolling hills and blue ocean. The pool area and grounds are lovely and well maintained.

The room or villa itself is very large. We stayed in Villa 2 and it has everything you need. The bed was very comfortable, full bathroom, kitchen, dining area and lounge. The place was very clean and well maintained.

I would agree with a couple of reviews here that say the villa is in need of a refresh, particularly the kitchen area and windows. For us, we had came from a villa elsewhere that was beautiful and modern for the same price so was a bit of a change for us. I’d advise at least changing the light fitting over the bed to a simple down light to avoid spiderwebs.

The owner did come over, she was absolutely lovely and very happy to help out and recommend some great eateries and things to see nearby.

I would recommend the villa for your stay if you would like something chill and quiet outside of Byron. I’ve added some photos from the stay.

The four winds villas are perfectly positioned overlooking the hinterlands and out over the ocean. The sun rises and sunset was quite spectacular. The villas are large and well equipped though in need of a little extra attention to detail and upkeep. What caused us concern and disruption was the noise coming from an adjacent building at 1:30am on Saturday morning. I had to go out in the cold and the wet to ask those responsible to keep it quiet. We had chosen this property to get away from inconsiderate inner city neighbours only to experience it here. To compound the issue was that the noise was being made by the owner and her friends about 10m from our window on their outdoor entertaining area.I considered this inconsiderate and unprofessional. I might expect this from irresponsible guests not the business owner. It impacted on the remainder of our nights sleep or lack there of. We never received an apology from the those responsible and were offered $100 or about 2/5 of the cost of 1 nights stay (we booked 4 nights)When booking, the charge came off my credit card quick as a flash. I am yet to receive the $100 almost 1 week on. All in all a blemish on an otherwise pleasant stay. I only hope the owner doesn’t drag out the minimal refund having read this balanced and honest review

Villa 2 was more than adequate for two. Very spacious bedroom, great linen, king bed, nice additions and an outdoor shower. The main area has a large dining oblique lounge area. Balinese theme throughout, self contained but the kitchenette is an add on and doesn't fit the decor. All the accessories have been thought through and nothing left to worry about. 10 minutes from Byron, 2 minutes or more to local "villages". Great location but the property does need some maintenance and repair. Great place for a weekend but the price is not really worth the product.

The location is beautiful but the two storey two bedroom villa needs an overhaul. It is sitting in the 90’s with an odd layout. The deck is rotting and wood beams flip up in places when you walk on them. The place is full of huge active spiders, kitchen had an active ant nest, wasp nest and wasps flying in from veranda, and cockroaches up bedroom walls and in sinks. The entrance is like that of entering a childcare center with a pool fence before the front door. Quite odd. The carpet is heavily stained and dank smelling needs relaxing. The place is very dirty snd needs a big repaint job. The water system is lacking pressure, hot water runs out fast. All sliding doors are rickety and we propped them with cardboard and magazines to stop them rattling in the wind. None of the doors lock and the front door has a key sitting in it but it doesn’t lock. It is not called Four Winds for nothing - should be renamed ‘Forty Winds’! It is very windy! It is rustic and at a stretch 3 star not luxury. The advertisement to it is very misleading and is not honest. The pool was full of leaves and skimmer boxes full. Never cleaned and no cleaner in the pool to keep on top of cleaning. It is extremely overpriced for no luxury and we left 3 days early - I was unable to sleep there properly with heat in upstairs room and very active spiders and cockroaches particularly at night. The owners are not interested and the Manager doesn’t want to get involved. The villa needs to be closed until it is suitable for rent and renamed with an honest description.

Response from Rick DeLeede, General Manager at Four Winds Villas
Responded 7 Dec 2020
Both Megan and Maria (who left a separate response) were without doubt the worst guests we have ever encountered in our 20 years of owning and running Four Winds Villas. In fact they arranged for an extra night which they were to pay cash for, and left without doing so. We wonder if they disliked the property so vehemently .. why did they stay for the 7 nights and not leave, nor ask for a refund. Instead they stayed, festering and then wrote this review. They alerted our Manager late at night (9.30pm) to several issues in a very agressive text. Our Manager contacted us so we popped down there immediately as we live on site to see if we could help them out. My wife was met with two women in a wild rage. There was nothing we could do to placate them or even get a word in edgewise. We did have a couple of windy days and of course when this happened leaves flew into the pool. We keep cleaning the pool through the wind event. You only need to look at our reviews ... Villa Sanura .. Four Winds Villas .. Byron Bay on Airbnb to see how much our guests love our property. We will be seeking to have this review removed.

Very aged & tired Villa #3 - THIS IS NOT LUXURY Leaking shower, needing new door seals, no exhaust, 80's kitchen, carpet stains, dirty windows, open food in freezer , Pantene as luxury shampoo, rotten verandah rails, horrible host who abused us when we complained. View and location only upside to this villa. Swimming pool was full of leaves and debris, filter full. Air conditioner flooded the lounge. When wind blows all doors rattle loudly. Some doors wont open, all locks need replacing. Couldn't lock the villa at all. Host refused to listen to us just screamed. I would say 3 stars and way over priced for what they offer.

Great property, but full of Hunstman spiders and mice. We booked this place hoping to have a great babymoon. It was the perfect property, away from the hustle and bustle. We really enjoyed our first few hours, until we had to kill our first Hunstman. That night I woke up to one on the headboard of the bed watching my pregnant wife sleep. When morning came, we had a good laugh about it, but then when we walked into the kitchen there was one on the floor. I then killed it. I went and knocked on the owners house to tell them, but no one was home. When we returned to our room, a mouse ran across the floor into the couch. We decided to check out, so we only got to stay one night of the four we had planned on. The owners did not refund us the other nights.

Firstly only two huntsmans were reported to us AFTER vacation of property. The photos indicate that they were very small. There was a very wild storm that night, and animals will come inside for refuge, they are completely harmless. Although a mouse has been mentioned there are not photos to document this. Our property prides its self on cleanliness, this is evident from our reviews, and they certainly were not there when the guest checks in. Our yearly pest and rodent checks are always up to date. This guest harrassed our staff so much, that we had to block his numbers. We believe, they were not happy with the location, wanted to relocate, then sought a refund. Not a pleasurable experience for all. ..... Owner

I had the pleasure of staying in the 2 bedroom Villa at Four Winds last weekend. Most of the accommodation in Byron was booked out however fortunately there was a last minute cancellation.

I have stayed in many premium establishments in my time but I would have to say that Four Winds is by far the most spectacular. The ridge top location and views of the valley below to the ocean and the surrounding mountains are simply breathtaking. The rural view from the loft bedroom was a delight to wake to each morning. It is just so peaceful and apart from meeting the owner Rick on check-in who is a really top bloke as well, I saw nobody for the rest of the weekend.

The Villa was immaculate and so well equipped, even down to a fully stocked cupboard of condiments. The kitchen made self catering easy, with heaps of cookware, crockery and utensils, and the BBQ was great. My only quibble would be that there is no oven in the kitchen, perhaps a Convection Microwave would make cooking at home a little easier?

The pool is amongst the best I have swam in, and perfect for an evening dip beneath the stars.

I look forward to returning to Four Winds soon and would recommend this amazing, beautiful property to all.

My partner and I stayed at Four Winds for 4 nights for a R&R trip from Sydney and we had the most incredible time at Four Winds. We visit Byron Bay frequently and usually stay in the Hinterlands and Four Winds is by far the best accommodation we've experienced. We stayed in the (huge) one bedroom villa with exceptional views, beautiful styling and the ultimate relaxation vibes. Helen and Jane were fantastic, making sure we had everything we needed but also ensuring we had complete privacy during our stay. Thank you Four Winds, we'll 100% be back. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a Byron break in the hills just out of town. 10/10

Perfect place to retreat and relax. Beautiful tranquil surrounds and gorgeous views to the water. The amenities were luxurious and more than comfortable. In house massage and recommendation for local restaurant really had us feeling spoilt on our long weekend.
