Booked for 3 nights b & b and dinners. Booked a superior room which was worth the extra. A very comfortable king sized bed and 3 good nights sleep, it probably helped that we had our own firm pillows as the ones supplied were a bit soft for our liking. A gas fire and 2 armchairs meant we were able to relax in the evening. There was a separate dressing area and a fine sized bathroom with stand alone bath and also separate shower area.
The meals on the 3 evenings were very good, between us we had lobster, local lamb, john dory and duck. All top quality.
Service in the hotel was top notch with good covid regulations in place, though i did notice that the barmen and some reception staff did not wear masks which was a bit discomforting.
I will certainly return in the future.

We stayed as a couple for 3 nights in the beautiful Rathmullan House Hotel and despite being fully booked felt the staff treated us as old friends. We felt the hotel have done a great job in managing COVID and were happy with the not too intrusive measures. The meal we had in the main restaurant Cook and Gardiner was again top class and good value at £50 for 3 courses. Breakfast was a leisurely affair with great variety and served to your table as no buffet available due to COVID. The superior room (35) was spacious and with a ground floor patio with table and chairs. The casual pizzas at the Tap Room were also tasty washed down with local beers from Kinnegar. The grounds have nice walks with direct access to a beautiful sandy beach. The town of Rathmullan is an easy 10 minute walk with a few casual restaurants to choose from.

Every year, me and the rest of my family go to Rathmullan House for a week of relaxation. They never let us down! The staff are polite and friendly, the hotel doesnt mind sandy feet going up and down stairs and children running about. The food is exquisite and always at a professional standard, the beach is practically on the doorstep and is really easy to get to, the garden is gorgeous and you can go and see the greenhouses where they grow their own fruit and vegetables. The swimming pool is very child friendly and is small enough that you can see everything that is going on so you dont have to worry about your child as much. The children's meals are always served at the time we need them and there are babysitters available at night. The place is overall an amazing holiday and I would recommend that everyone should go.

We had the pleasure of a two day stay in Rathmullan House in early June. It was a very relaxing stay with so many historical references and with a chilled vibe in the bar and side lounges. The restaurant was lovely, spacious and relaxed with mixed tables and chairs that added to the charm. The food at dinner was excellent, with a good choice of menu and the wine list was extensive and would fit most wallets! Breakfast was lovely with fresh fruit from their own garden (as were many of the vegetable and salads at dinner). All in all, we had a lovely stay, which was enhanced by the friendly and attentive staff.
A big plus for us was the freshly filtered water available from the fridge on the way to our room - what a simple but excellent idea.
The location of Rathmullan House was simply gorgeous with their own working garden - as a garden enthusiast, it was just lovely to explore the walled garden and experience the freshness of the ingredients at the table.

Such a gorgeous gem on the banks of Lough Swilly in beautiful Donegal
You can walk along an almost empty sandy beach just a very short walk from the hotel
On arrival we had a very friendly welcome and our room was large with a balcony looking over the Lough. Bedroom and sitting area with separate patio windows
Fresh milk and water available in fridge in the hall. Coffee was fresh which was a treat from usual little instant offerings
We were booked in for dinner. I had the duck cooked to my taste was moist and delicious with beautiful fresh vegetables grown in their own walled garden
I had the cheese board Again very flavoursome local cheeses
Great selection for breakfast including usual Irish fry also smoked haddock and kippers. Smoked salmon with scrambled eggs. Fresh fruit etc.

Lots of seating areas in large stuffed chairs in the sitting rooms with open log fires.
Really is a little bit of heaven and the staff where fantastic

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights in July and we were delighted with it . As others have written , you feel like a guest of friends, unlike other country houses where you can hear a pin drop .Here, there was a lovely atmosphere of relaxation and enjoyment The hospitality was amazing both in the dining room for breakfast and dinner and in the bar in the evening where Henry was so efficient and friendly . Apart from the beach being just a short walk from the house , there is so much to do and explore in this part of Donegal

Wow! The absolute perfect stay at Rathmullan House this weekend. Found on the blue book we had never been this far north. This place is completely worth the drive. The location is utopian right on Lough Swilly in the Donegal mountains. Footsteps away from the most beautiful white sand beach. The rooms are impeccably clean, luxurious, unique, comfortable and just such a treat. The food was delicious. Truly food sourced locally much of the time from their own walled garden. There is so much to do in this area of Donegal. We took the ferry, hiked around and explored so much! Breakfast was once again a beautiful treat a mix of tradition and unique local offerings. The restaurant menu changed each night and it was just such a treat. This place feels like a total hidden gem. We will be telling everyone we know to go and genuinely can’t wait to return. The staff are the best in the business. All Covid precautions were taken extremely carefully and we felt safe and distanced the entire time without sacrificing any of the treasures this place has to offer.

We recently returned from Ireland and had the opportunity to stay in a number of truly lovely hotels. However, our experience at the Rathmullen House was by far the most impressive of them all. Firstly, the location is absolutely beautiful. The hotel is located just a few steps from the ocean on expansive tree lined grounds designed for walking. The rooms are beautifully appointed as are the dining room and bar. The hotel has a pri fixe daily charge for breakfast and dinner and serve dishes that are varied but include quintessential Irish items. Every meal was beautifully presented and of excellent quality. And all of these experiences are enhanced by the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. They truly made our time there an experience that we will not easily forget.

We spent three wonderful days in Donegal and stayed in Rathmullan House, bed breakfast and evening meal . What a fabulous hotel, a short walk from the beach and pleasant walks. Staff were superb, calm courteous friendly and professional. Food excellent, breakfast table service only due to Covid, but an excellent selection available on menu to suit all tastes and diets. Dinner menu awash with interesting choices each night, thoroughly enjoyed each meal, food was superb. Our bedroom was in the first floor, facing the garden and the beach, so a very pleasant view. Room furnished traditionally, and lovely only small gripe was a double bed rather than something larger. Bathroom modern .

We will be back, well done to management and staff.

On Saturday 15th Feb 2020 we had booked for a private lunch for 25 family and friends. The team at Rathmullan House could not have been any more efficient, friendly and attentive to our needs. The food and service was top drawer + excellent value for the quality of the delicious food. It was a great afternoon and everyone left with a smile on their face.

Particular thanks to Mary Wheeler for organising everything at RH and making sure it all went to plan.

Many thanks for your question. The hotel does not have a spa. We have a swimming pool for guests but no spa facility. We recommend our guests visit the Looking Glass in Rathmullan which is an excellent award winning spa and you will be well looked after by Aoife. Many thanks Patrick Rathmullan House

Yes, you will need to book a dog friendly room. We chatted with dog owners who were very happy with this arrangement.
