View Sydney hotel delights many guests with its prime location, offering stunning views and easy access to the city's attractions. The hotel's modern atmosphere and cleanliness receive high marks, with special mentions of its well-maintained rooms featuring harbor views. While the service is commended for being friendly and professional, some travelers have voiced concerns about the value, referencing unexpected charges and noise disturbances.
High train noise levels, particularly on lower floors, have been a notable issue. Nonetheless, the hotel's amenities, including a nice bar and fancy hairdryers, are often celebrated.

Detailed Reviews
We stayed on the 14th floor which was the top floor had a great view of the harbour. Room nice bed comfortable along with good pillows. Mini bar and room service available, our breakfast was included in our booking it was the best buffet breakfast we’ve had at a hotel. A large selection of food to choose from large dining area sit and overlook the harbour all staff were friendly and so efficient nothing was too much trouble. Lunch and dinner available at restaurant they have a bar open from 4pm to 10pm light meals available at the bar. Great location train station next door taxi rank down stairs great pub across the road Billy Barry’s Pub small shopping complex which has a IGA supermarket there’s also a Coles and a Aldi in walking distance. All in all great hotel great location great atmosphere highly recommend

We had a room on the harbor side and we did love "the view" - it was fantastic as advertised.
One thing they don't emphasize (for understandable reasons) is that there is a large office tower blocking the view of the opera house. So while you can indeed see the harbor and much of the city skyline, that crucial landmark is blocked out. Now that I know, I can see all of the "view" photos from the hotel are cropped at this spot. Still not a deal-breaker, and it makes sense from a marketing perspective, but it felt a bit like false advertising...
The hotel is pretty affordable, and even more so if you take one of the rooms not facing the harbor. In that case there's a rooftop terrace you can use to admire the city views. The breakfast buffet is solid and it opens at 6:30 which makes it easier if you have an early tour or a morning flight. The drive to the airport was quick - only 25 minutes or so, even on a Monday morning at rush hour.
The rooms are pretty basic but recently renovated, modern, and well-maintained. Our room could have used better housekeeping - there were crumbs on the carpet when we checked in, and the light bulbs were burned out in both reading lamps. We also found it odd that the hotel says "Harbourview Hotel" on the outside - did they recently rebrand and didn't have the budget to replace the sign?
Lastly, we were on the third floor and the train noise was pretty disruptive for sleeping. If you stay here, I recommend requesting a room on an upper floor where perhaps it would be better. On the plus side, at least you are close to the train station!

Dear BostonTraveler79, Thank you for sharing your thoughtful and detailed review! We're so glad you enjoyed the stunning harbor views—it truly is one of the highlights of staying with us. It’s wonderful to hear you found value in our affordable rooms and the Deck 17 outdoor area—what a gem! Sipping a cocktail comfortably under an umbrella with those incredible views really makes for a special experience. We’re also pleased the breakfast and convenient airport access contributed positively to your stay. That said, we’re truly sorry for the housekeeping oversight and the issue with the reading lamps. This falls short of our usual standards, and I’ll be following up with the team to ensure more attention to detail moving forward. Regarding the signage, you’re absolutely right! The property rebranded, and while the old signage remains for now, we appreciate your patience as we work through these updates. Your suggestion about requesting an upper-floor room to minimize train noise is excellent advice! We’d love the chance to welcome you back for a more peaceful and flawless stay next time. Thank you again for your balanced and thoughtful feedback—it truly helps us grow and improve. Best regards, Carol Abad | Front Office Manager

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
We were very impressed with the location since we were catching public transport to and from the hotel, the train station is less than 100m from the entrance. While the staff were great, our room was disappointing. It was clean, but our bed was horrible. It sunk down significantly and we woke up with sore backs. We also booked a harbour view room and were disappointed to find we were placed on the first floor right above the train line with only a view of the harbour from the corner of the window. It was unfortunate as the purpose of our trip was for our anniversary. We were able to hear the trains going by every 5 minutes which was annoying. Overall I’d stay here again simply because of the convenient location but only for short trips of 2 nights or less. I couldn’t stay in a bed like that any longer. We asked to move rooms but staff told us none were available.

Has this place changed hands recently? We have been coming here for years, we love the location and the view. However on this visit the standard seems to have changed. The booking was not what we asked for (2 interconnected rooms and higher up to reduce train noise for the kids) despite ringing to confirm our request was available- the kids had to stay 1 night in a separate room (a bit nerve wracking) and move to the adjoining room the next day when the person who had been put in there vacated. Having been out all day, when we returned at 6.00 pm the bathroom had not been cleaned, the toilet was dirty and clearly the benches had not been wiped, milk had not been replaced, although the cups/kettle had been tidied. While the breakfast is good, and the servers are lovely, the Kids breakfast used to be complimentary with an adult buffet breakfast, but are now charged. There are no biscuits in the room: whoever heard of an Aussie hotel without a couple of biccies next to the kettle for supper? When I asked if this was an oversight I was told to buy the minibar biscuits- at an outrageous price: a couple of Kez biccies at the cost of a full packet at the expensive mini mart up the street. There are no hot chocolate sachets, too bad if you don’t drink tea or coffee. I guess they figure they have you over a barrel because there is no supermarket open as the Plaza shuts quite early. The TV now has only basic free to air- not even iView or SBS on demand. May need to rethink in the future, boutique hotel cost without basic amenities.

Dear Palavestra Family, Thank you so much for your thoughtful and detailed feedback. We truly appreciate your continued loyalty over the years, and we’re grateful that you’ve taken the time to share your experience with us. In response to your inquiry about the hotel’s ownership, there has been no recent change. However, we want to inform you that our new Group General Manager will be taking over in February, and we’re excited about the fresh direction. After reviewing your booking details, we don’t have any record of the request for interconnecting rooms. We sincerely apologize if this was missed during your phone call. While we always strive to accommodate specific requests, room assignments are subject to availability. You were placed on the 7th floor, which is considered a high floor for your room category (rooms in this category are between the 1st and 10th floors). If you prefer a higher floor during your next stay, we recommend booking a Superior Room, which is located between the 11th and 14th floors, guaranteeing a higher placement. We’re also sorry to hear that your room wasn’t consistently serviced throughout your stay. This is certainly not the standard we aim for, and we’ll follow up with our Housekeeping team to ensure that stayover service is more reliable in the future. Regarding the breakfast charges, we found that during your last stay, you booked through our Autumn Special promotion, which included one child eating free with a paying adult, along with two drink vouchers. While kids’ breakfast is not typically complimentary outside of this offer, we understand how this may have been confusing upon your return. We hope this clears up that it was part of the promotion, not our usual policy. It seems that tea and biscuits are a lovely part of your afternoon routine! While we don’t provide tea biscuits in the rooms, hot chocolate is available from our Food & Beverage team at any time. We love to accommodate specific requests like this, if made known to us prior to arrival. Everyone has their own routines, and we’re always happy to make sure you feel right at home. Please feel free to reach out to us—we’d be happy to assist! Our smart TVs offer access to popular apps like SBS, Netflix, and YouTube, so you can log in at your convenience, in addition to the regular TV channels. If you need any assistance, our engineering team would be happy to provide a quick guide, as we understand that not everyone is tech-savvy. Lastly, our area offers plenty of convenient grocery stores that stay open until late—Coles and Aldi are just a 4-minute walk away and close at 10 PM. North Sydney truly offers all the amenities you need while maintaining the tranquility, away from the city hustle. We’re so glad to hear that you enjoyed our location, breakfast, and the warm service from our team. Your feedback is invaluable as we continue to enhance our services and amenities. We truly hope to welcome you back and have the opportunity to provide you with an even better experience next time. Feel free to reach out to me directly next time—I’d be happy to personally oversee your stay. Sending warm regards, Carol Abad | Front Office Manager

Was very disappointed with our stay for a hotel where the location and view was outstanding, the hotel did not meet our expectations, it is obviously poorly maintained as one lift was out of order and one screeched and shuddered as if it was about to break down at any minute, then our aircon was not working properly it kept shutting off, so we would wake up hot in the middle of the night.
Also the small little incidentals like when our room was serviced our coffee, milk and tea was not restocked.
Lastly cleanliness the shower had mould in the grout and on the shower wall.
We were extremely excited to stay at this hotel due to its views and access to the sights in Sydney, but left bitterly disappointed, would not stay again.

Dear Cindel, Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding your recent stay with us. We deeply regret hearing about the disappointment you experienced during your visit. Regarding the lift issue, we want to provide some context that the situation was unexpected. We promptly called the technician to resolve it, and although we understand that it caused inconvenience, our team worked diligently, and the lift was back in service within three hours. We appreciate your understanding in such unforeseen circumstances. We apologize for any oversight in restocking amenities during room service. Rest assured that these matters will be thoroughly investigated and addressed promptly to prevent any recurrence. We recently updated our AC system to enhance guest comfort. We understand that the control panel may not be easy to navigate for everyone, and it seems like it was set in auto mode. Please reach out to our team directly next time, and we will set it up according to your preferences. We acknowledge the significance of your excitement to stay with us, considering the outstanding location and views we offer. It is disheartening to learn that we fell short of meeting your expectations. Please be assured that your comments will be instrumental in our ongoing efforts to improve our services and enhance the overall guest experience. If you would be open to providing more specific details or if there are additional concerns you would like us to address, please feel free to reach out directly. We genuinely value your feedback, and we hope to have the opportunity to regain your trust in the future. Warm regards, Carol Abad | Front Office Manager

Arrived as final part of Australian tour. The hotel is a fair way from airport and with arriving through the day with all the traffic, the taxi cost just over $90 which we also had to pay for journey back so straight away a good chunk out of our budget used on just getting there and back. The check in was smooth and a special mention for Elodie on reception who was lovely and very helpful with her local knowledge. The rooms were good with huge tv and handy fridge and safe. We were on floor 9 and had fantastic harbour view which was even better at night with all the city lights as backdrop. We had a 3 course meal for $49 dollars each which was very nice (drinks extra). Would recommend the purchase of an opal card which is needed bearing in mind the location of the hotel north of the river. We topped up a couple of times but although we walk miles, didn’t fancy having to walk across the bridge every day and bac as it would be a good 40 minutes to get to the bridge and cross it to the city. Got off at Wynard station as it was really close to the marvellous Darling harbour. We managed to see a sat firework display which was spectacular. Also used the ferry a few times which can come out of your opal card balance. You get discounted fares on the card as opposed to getting paper tickets in advance ( don’t think you can pay the drivers) The only bad point to make really is the location of the hotel. Not so much for the costs of getting there and back, which need to be considered, but the noise from the trains. Even though we were on floor 9 the train noise was unbearable and found it hard to get any decent sleep during our 5 nights there and the fact that the rail line runs directly under the hotel, it’s obvious why. There are loads of trains every hour in both directions so the noise was really bad. We did enquire about a new room and was kindly shown a higher floor room but I thought noise levels not much better and would be extra $40 per night so stayed where we were. . This was my only gripe but quite a valid one as a stay in a hotel is generally for a bit of relaxing but the trains must start about 4am so no chance of a decent nights sleep unless hard of hearing. Don’t know if better window glazing would help.

Dear lawrenceb608, Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your recent stay. I am pleased to hear that you mostly enjoyed your time with us, and that you experienced the warm and welcoming nature of our team. I will ensure that your compliments are passed on as I believe they will serve as motivation to continue providing excellent service. It is disappointing that an otherwise pleasant experience was negatively impacted by the filtering in of external noise. We acknowledge the challenges we face due to the convenient proximity to public transport, and continue to explore options in order to minimise the any disruption. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We hope that we may have the opportunity to welcomed you again in the future. Sincerely, Hannah Kennish Rooms Division Manager

We booked two consecutive weekends at The View Sydney . As we were attending concerts in the city and Chatswood the motel was very convenient.
Public transport was just outside your door bus/train and ferry was a nice 20 minute walk .
Staff were friendly.
The stand out staff member was a lovely young Lady named Melissa. On the evening of Friday the 11th we were late getting dinner . I called for room service and as they were closing she ordered a meal to be held for us and when we arrived we had a beautiful meal ready.
What amazing service and dedication from a staff member . Thank you Melissa .
The motel is a little dated but clean and quiet .
Could I suggest that you don’t waste money on those little shampoos etc,and use pumpacks instead like most motels use these days to reduce waste .
Thanks

This is pound for pound one off the best hotels in Sydney. While it is an older hotel it is well maintained and the facilities are great just about every room has a stunning view of the city the bridge and the harbour. So at the price forget the overrated big name brands in the city and go to the view and 150 meters to north Sydney station oh and the restaurant is superb

Our room was on the 11 th floor, the views looking towards the harbour bridge were breathtaking, stunning at sunset and wonderful at night. King size very comfortable bed, spotless bathroom, bathrobes, slippers, decent size towels and my wife was very impressed with the Dyson hairdryer. We were on a luxury escape package, good value. Hotel very convenient to North Sydney station, we travelled into Sydney every day, took us around 30 minutes to get to the airport, only one change, would recommend this hotel, but choose the upper floors, views of course and you can hear the trains they say on the lower floors.

Overall, I am very satisfied with the service, the amenities and the staff of the hotel. Over the many years I have been staying at the hotel, however, the price increase has been quite dramatic over the past 12 months without any commensurate increase in service and amenities. Those few remaining staff members with whom I have established a rapport over the years are very good, but some of the newer staff members are not so helpful and understanding. The housekeeping staff continue to do their job extremely well and are always helpful, as are the room service staff.

Hi Lee Leo,
I have stayed at this hotel at least 20 times over the last 25 years, however, have never had a room with a full kitchen. What I will say is that the staff are really accommodating, so I suggest you ask if they can supply a toaster, if the room doesn't have one.
If it's just one or two of you, see if you can negotiate a free breakfast downstairs in the restaurant. Its pretty good value, so even if you have a family and see if they will let the kids eat free, could be an option?
Good luck. It's a great place to stay to centre yourself to explore Sydney!
Dear Sue S,

Hello Lucky1966, the best way from the airport is to catch the train to North Sydney station. We are a short walk from the station.
What kind of bird it is.
Thank you
