As a facilitator of a Vietnam Veterans Gypsies group we chose Marengo Holiday Park. It was one of the best we've encountered. From the first call the staff were so accomodating and helpful, even suggesting dates where there weren't other large groups booked in.
The location is fantasdtic taking in water views across to Aplollo Bay.
Cabins were well equipped and maintained and caravan sites were terrific.
The park has a well fitted out camp kitchen.
An indicator of how good this is there wasn't one complaint from any of our group and some have suggested we return which is trestament to how good this really is.

We had booked a three night stay with our camper. On arrival, the man in reception couldn't find our booking at first, then thought we'ed already paid, then thought we hadn't. In the end he charged us the incorrect amount and we had to pay 80 cents extra! He rang us a few hours later to see if we were going to arrive that day. Unbelievable!
The site was cramped, even for our small camper and had very little grass on it. It did have, however, a liberal coating of litter.
The facilities were fine and we made good use of the shower block and the camp kitchen. Campers were very friendly and helpful and peace and quiet reigned evenings and mornings. The sound of the sea was very restful too.

Response from Great Ocean Road Coast, Marketing at Marengo Family Caravan Park
Responded 30 Aug 2021
Thanks for taking the time to provide your feedback. The Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority have managed the park since December 2020, therefore in a small number of cases for bookings taken prior to that date, we didn't have all the information on the booking including what had already been charged. There won't be any further issues going forward, we hope you understand. Thanks for staying with us.

We have stayed at this park a number of times over the years mainly in a caravan but this time stayed in a cabin over looking the sea. What a view, the cabin had everything you needed well presented and very spotless. The whole park is great for campers, caravans and has a variety of cabins. A playground and a camp kitchen and good toilet facilities. There is a great variety of birds and a few koalas that live in the park for all to enjoy. Dog friendly. It is so close to the beach to do many walks to enjoy nature at its best. You can also see from the park the reef and rocks that fur seals live there. Only a few kms from Apolla bay and so many attractions like waterfalls, lookouts and forests walks to do. I would highly recommend this park great price and staff very helpful. We are planning to return.

Situated just outside of Apollo Bay the Marengo Holiday Park is in a good spot, close to the beach and a short drive into Apollo Bay. We hired a cabin which is cosy, has everything you need but is dated and really could do with an upgrade as the cabin is tired and desperately in need of some TLC. The local wildlife tends to get a bit amorous after dark and screams of passion and grunting from the koalas can be heard well into the early hours of the morning!!
The park is dog friendly - a big plus for us and there is a high turnover of patrons coming and going throughout the day. Overall a good place to stay it just needs a little something.

Arrived Friday 22 /04/22 at 2pm in a Mercedes sprinter Motorhome. the site measured about 10m x 5m. For a 7 night stay. Booked this as at the time Bug 4 were booked out when we explored booking 3 weeks prior.
The adjoining site annex encroachment and the other side hedge, parked vehicles, narrow roadway made it very difficult to access the site.
Revisited the office no other site available for another 3 days.
Adjoining neighbour noisey and with large dog.
Decided to leave and revisited the office and requested at least a 50% refund to allow them the fees for the 3 day long weekend. this was refused and under review refused by the manager. Now out of pocket $308.00.
Fortunately the Bug 4 Pisces made a space available for us to then go onto a site the following day for the week. The staff here went aboveboard to help us.

My observations and experience of Marengo:

1. Cramped park with very small sites narrow one way roadway poor amenities.
2. Front of house good customer interface
3. Maintenance staffer aggressive unfriendly and not helpful
4. Unreasonably dealt with
5. Would not recommend this substandard park and strongly suggest you spend the extra money and go to the Big4 or the G’day park at Apollo Bay.

If you want to queue for a dirty loo and shower at a park with a great view this is the one for you. Would not recommend it. Only three toilets and showers for women for about 60 campsites, for men only two. Doubt if this park meets Victorian government regulations. Toilets and showers were small. Campsites small and crowded.

Our first post lock down getaway from Geelong. Park was busy with Geelong people mostly. Was a wet weekend but no one cared just happy to be away. The park is fantastic stayed on non powered tent site which backs onto the beach at marengo. Well looked after park and you can’t get a better get away the Apollo Bay let’s face it. So many glorious places to visit from beaches to waterfalls and the harbour. Plus all the options of cafes and the brewery local pub.

Great location, right on the beach, well maintained, clean and tidy.
Staff are friendly.
Good facilities and access.
Great Ocean Walk is right at the door step with million dollar views, including seals.
A short drive to Apollo Bay and all the tourist attractions in the area.

I spent a week in a cabin here with my small dog.
The park is very neat and tidy and easy to get around. Located right on the beach which my dog though was amazing.
The cabin is basic but it has everything that you need - a comfy bed, it was warm (a must in the middle of winter) and basic cooking facilities.
Check in is easy - communication is accurate and timely.
Thank you for an amazing week.

From this Ken, some sweet reflections 23/8/23:
It's not Surfers Paradise (& thanks for that) but here at the front wide window of the best cabin at Marengo, on a sharp-breezed but sunny August morning, there's something black (& maybe deadly)slowly creeping against the rough white waves betwixt a scruffy beach & those ragged rocks covered in indolent seals.
Often the rude question rises: What do those seals do for a living? The trevally rarely leap up to be devoured! But I did see a real fisherman take two with a double-hooked light line (I wonder what they taste like?)
Mostly I wonder, rather than wander, in this last blast of winter, although we are blessed by 3 days of fine sunshine, when shaded from the shade & dressed according to the time of day. That endlessly engaging distraction of light, movement, & always the underlying symphony of surf moves me away from urban life & that endless list of what "must" be done ASAP.
On this one of many journeys to Marengo Family Caravan Park, perhaps 3 hours from Brunswick if you can't help pausing at the wonderful opp shop in Anglesea, best achieved along the Great Ocean Road, by a seriously skilled driver, whose passengers are always gazing left, just in case a wonderful whale is glimpsed, we feel that slight anxiety about unlikely flat tires.
The mood completely converts to joyful anticipation as we pass through the "big smoke" of Apollo Bay - urban concerns fade & the gently rural context of ocean & forest completely converts hard times to a soft escape.
On other visits to this few days of new life we have generally travelled to someplace or other & clear advice is always available from the office. This time we chose wisely to firmly alter our existence & simply soaked into an always interesting landscape.
Oh, & the black & beautiful curiosity turns out to have two long "fins" which are the paddling arms of a single surfer, in full wet suit, confidently moving out to where that magic ride can be sought. He went out of sight, around the point, to larger forces, but was seen later returning to his car, board in hand, & slightly surprised by my gestures of congratulation.
The journey to Marengo is endless delights, but the happy holiday, renews energy, subdues concern, & provides a better path ahead.

Yes...pets need to be on a lead in the park at all times, not left unattended & cleaned up after poos.
