I have called in at this pub whilst out walking and have always received a warm welcome. Their Sunday lunch is excellent value, with three sizes on offer. The Pedigree bitter is superb! If you are after fine dining with a large choice, this isn't the pub for you, but if like your pubs simple and rural, it certainly is.

Not sure what pub previous reviewers had been in but we were given a warm, friendly welcome in this cosy "proper" country pub. The place was warm, with log fires burning in the bar and dining area. We were passing and hungry so popped in for a Sunday roast. We both had a medium roast and the quality was very...

Not sure where the recent reviewers have been! The Malt shovel is a proper pub with real food, no pretentious city style overpriced rubbish just honest, simple food cooked well with good portions and good prices. X2, yes 2! real fires burning, lovely log fire in the bar and log burner in the 'dining' area. If you want fancy then...

We were a party of 12 out walking on Bank Holiday and had offered to pre order meals to keep things simple. We were in a room with a radiator that wasn't working and a log burner that wasn't burning, we were sat in coats and hats. Welcome was odd, food was average and service sparodic. We went home for...

Sorry guys, not impressed. Cold pub and cold staff (specifically lady behind the bar). Her manners were absent and the heating appeared to have failed. It seemed a staff member had the warm seat beside the fire whilst in the other room (where we sat) there was no heating. Food was regular, but nothing notable. Decor was shabby and they...

Lovely landlady who doubled up as the chef on this particular night! Extensive menu, both main and dessert. I had chicken kiev and I haven't had this in years! It's tucked out of the way, so just keep going!

Went here for 2 meals as we were renting a holiday home nearby. We had 4 dogs with a party of 10 people and they were terrific. The dogs came into the restaurant in fact there were almost more dogs there than people! The food was good and hearty with a fantastic meat pie! Extremely friendly and highly recommended especially...
