Second time at this property. Best described as a 4 star version of a 5 star property. Certainly, all the usual Ritz attributes; strong dining options, smooth service, overall luxury experience. Great workout room with nice views of ocean from treadmills/ellipticals.
Some dings: The property is getting a bit worn, which I didn’t remember from our last visit in ‘18. Hallway carpets (goodness!), guest rooms, even the bath towels and workout room towels were unexpectedly frayed. Rooms are small. We had a Club Level Deluxe Ocean View (Oceanfront Suites are the next level up) and the room and balcony were cozy.
We used points, so a little hard to comment on value, but we’d certainly be comfortable returning - but be sure to get the Ocean View. Last time, while were on the Club Level, the view of the golf course trees were more Pacific Northwest as opposed to Island paradise.
Also of note, we were there the second week of March, right when the COVID-19 crisis was breaking out. The hotel did an excellent job making guests feel comfortable and safe with visible steps to increase cleaning/disinfecting. Saw several families checking out early. Certainly interesting watching the concern grow on television while you are on a beach in Maui with a Mai Tai in your hand. Wishing everyone health and wellness.

As Platnium Elite member I continue to be amazed at the lack of room choices for guests with accessible needs. The Ritz is a grand property but our room was far away from lobby; required a long walk from our room to the elevator and than taking another elevator up each morning for breakfast buffet. The Ulana buffet was extensive and enjoyed. Staff worked diligently to remove plates and refill water, tea or coffee for each guest. Dinner at Banyan Tree was a bit of disappointment. The hotel we understand was fully booed due to the Sentry golf tournament. This meant the Nanyan was fully booked each night. Our impression was staff was not ready to handle so many guests. Our second night incurred a delay in seatin even with reservations. The manager worked hard to have our table cleared and ready. With many luxury hotels on Maui, not sure we would rush a return visit to this Ritz.

We just returned from a one week stay at the Ritz in Kapalua and here are my observations...
1. The drive up to and the front entrance landscaping are fabulous. Richly planted with tropical blooming plants and trees, tiki torches, and a koi pond with fountain.
2. The lobby is grand and vaulted but the lobby lounge has a lack of seating considering the size of hotel and number
of rooms. It needs more seating.
3. As many posters have mentioned, it CAN be a LONG walk to your room from the lobby: especially if you have an oceanFront room or an ocean view room closer to the beach. My husband said the long, narrow halls reminded him of the movie The Shining.
4. Two bottles of water are furnished free each day.
5. There is a coffee maker with regular and caffeine free pods along with 1/2 and 1/2 and sugars/Splenda.
6. The room had a small mini-fridge.
7. The exterior of the hotel is what I found lacking. The pools were fine, just the landscaping was lacking. Not lush or abundant, although there is certainly room for it.
8. As others have mentioned, there quite a long walk to the hotel beach down a concrete path : but they do offer a golf cart shuttle complimentary. The beach was “ok”, but it seemed crowded and the public beach directly next to it may have been the cause. No thatched huts or umbrellas noted. The beach is not directly behind the hotel. Instead it is down and off to the side. There is a sacred, protected area of turf blocked off by hedges directly behind the pools where you might imagine the beach would be.
9. Our “ocean view” room had a view of the ocean IF we leaned out over the balcony and looked 90* to the side. Instead, it was really a golf course view. This would be True of every ocean front room even though ours was almost at the end closest to the beach.
10. The Kapalua trail is easily accessible from the hotel and is a lovely, breathtaking walk.
11. Food is expensive. Very.
12. For breakfast and sometimes lunch or just snacks, we walked the short distance to the little market just adjacent to hotel for hot grilled food, coffee and pastries, wine and liquor, etc.
13. Our Mattress was not new and had worn in dips where people had repeatedly slept. The room was quite nice, if sparsely decorated. Faux wood floors. Nice dual vanity bathroom.

Our extended family of 8 stayed at the Ritz in early March, just prior to the island shutdown. My son-in-law was there for a business conference and brought the family and two sets of grandparents for vacation as well. We stayed in three separate rooms. My husband and I loved room 2544 (King) for its excellent balcony, which was quiet and virtually wind-free on windy days. My daughter's family had room 2551 (two queens) and their balcony had a superior view of the ocean in the distance, but we preferred our balcony. The Ritz was kind enough to bring up a microwave for my daughter's young children, so meals could be simplified. Everyone in the hotel was always friendly and proactive, providing superior service. We enjoyed the free classes (hula dancing, yoga) and nightly entertainment by the fire dancer. While the Fleming beach was too rough for swimming, we took advantage of the free Kapalua shuttle to take us to Kapalua beach, which was ideal for family swimming. Even though we had rental cars, it was easier to take the shuttle to the beach and restaurants and not worry about parking. While the Ritz dining could get expensive, the Honolua store was within walking distance and provided meals and groceries at reasonable prices. My granddaughters, ages 5 and 7, loved the pools and also participated in Cousteau's Ambassadors of the Environment for a great educational experience. Considering the range in ages of our family (5 to 75), the Ritz was wonderful in pleasing all of us.

What an amazing week long stay at the Ritz Carlton Kapalua in September. Everything was perfect! We stayed here for a conference and upgraded to an oceanfront 1 bedroom residence and loved every minute of it. The view was stunning, the room was spacious and beautiful. The restaurants had great food, including the Banyan tree, the burger shack, and the coffee shop downstairs. The Honolulua store a short walk down was also great for picking up small grocery items and breakfast. The beach was also a short walk down, wasn’t very busy at this time of the year. The coastal trail was beautiful and perfect for walks in the morning, I tried to go almost every morning, the views were breathtaking and the sunrises were amazing and I am rarely up that early but I made it a point to get up and enjoy those views almost every morning.
Overall the staff was great and helpful. We checked in to a Mountain View 1 bedroom residence, having arrived late at night we didn’t get to see much of the view from the balcony but the next morning I went down to the front desk and they were able to upgrade me to an ocean view room after I was able to check the room myself before upgrading and it was worth it. The stunning views and a double balcony were definitely worth the extra money.
Though the property is a good hour drive from the airport, it was secluded and peaceful. The people staying there were sophisticated and the whole area around the resort was very well kept. I’m comparing this to the Kanapali beach, near the Sheraton, though that beach is very popular the crowd there was just trashy. A lot of high school kids smoking and drinking in the back which made it a very undesirable location, so all in all you get what you pay for. A pristine beach with very peaceful vibes, a great place to be with family. There are quite a few restaurants around the area that we tried and the town of Lahaina was only 15 mins away with even more eating and shopping options.
The self laundry on the premises was a huge help. We were able to wash all our beachwear every day, which if you have kids is definitely a blessing. Complimentary water was available throughout the resort and restocked in the room every day. All necessary cooking and eating items were provided, though we only made breakfast a couple days, it was helpful to reheat leftovers and make tea and coffee at any time.

Our first post covid trip to Hawaii! We usually come every other year and always stay in Kanapalli. But I think we are Kapalua people now. There are some things that were different from what we are used to: upon entering the lobby, the main windows overlooking the gorgeous view were closed because of an ongoing construction project. Not having laundry in our room was something to get used to but honestly, the access to the laundry room was just fine and it forced me to do less of it and enjoy myself more. Finding shade at the pool was an ongoing issue but the pool attendants were so accommodating and helpful… it usually worked itself out. I would recommend the pool bar offer a daily drink special: 50% off mai tais from 4-5 or something like that. We did a fair amount of poolside ordering but ended up supplementing with our own stuff because of the drink price points. Housekeeping was wonderful and all of your gifts throughout our stay (fruit, banana bread, chocolates) were much appreciated. The concierge was relatively helpful in booking our restaurant & excursion reservations. The kayak excursion we booked was just meh but the zip lining was fantastic. The Banyan Tree is wonderful: we had friendly and attentive wait staff and their Mai Tais are TRULY amazing. We planned to only eat there once but ended up abandoning our reservation at Cane & Canoe because of a rude hostess… and the Banyan Tree welcomed us back! The attendant in the fitness center was quick to address my concerns with the 2 peleton bikes. Not the greatest wifi in that room and I couldn’t get a full ride in on the days that I tried but this just forced me outside to explore the many nearby walking trails. We can’t wait to come back. The Ritz Kapalua is our new happy place.

I stayed at the Ritz because they hosted a conference that I attended. I had a few issues but in the end, all were worked out more than satisfactorily. For example, I came with a friend and we were given a king bedroom (that really did not have an ocean view) but they moved us as soon as they could (next day) to a gorgeous room with real ocean view and 2 queen beds. Room was just lovely - clean, comfortable beds, large bathroom with separate shower, and good lighting and number of USB outlets. Housekeeping came twice a day and was very friendly.
Friends arranged to have a stunning flower bouquet left in my room for my birthday and hotel staff found a vase for them after we asked. The flowers were still beautiful 6 days later when I had to leave.
Restaurant food was pricey but quite good. The fish tacos at the pool were flavorful and among the best I've ever had. The lobster roll at the lobby bar was also wonderful as was my tropical drink.
The location is lovely in that it is way away from any crowds. We had a new moon a stunning stars at night. The hotel beach is not great but the 3 pools are wonderful and we walked to a fantastic beach about a mile away where I snorkeled with turtles and huge numbers of colorful fish.
The individual people working the conference and hotel in general were friendly and lovely and helpful. The spa is terrific. The services are very expensive but the setting is wonderful - I especially liked the fuzzy blankets in the "relaxation room" and shower amenities.
The best part of my visit ended up being my interaction with one of the managers Brandon Delgado. I'd had an issue when I moved rooms that a Ritz gift card was lost. Initially a junior manager had told me that nothing could be done to replace the lost card. A couple of days later in my stay, I was contacted by Brandon, the guest relations manager, first by email and then by phone. Within 15 minutes of hearing what had happened, he'd addressed the issue and also had a gift bag delivered to my room along with an apology that the issue hadn't been addressed sooner. I left feeling like the hotel truly cared that I had a good experience.

As you travel down what seems to be the longest winding road, take in the picturesque view of the mighty ocean just out your window. Focus your eyes...yes. Focus, yes! That IS a whale you see off in the distance blowing fine mists of ocean water into the freshest air on earth! Around the bend is what now appears to be private resort property. The finest manicured lawns and luscious landscaping all around, make taking a deep breath rejuvenating to the soul. Wow. You are now greeted by locals who graciously present each of you with a handmade lei. Enter to the open concept lobby where the breeze whistles around every corner, you’ll see an abundance of comfortable seats overlooking each of the restaurants entrances located there. The Ritz Carlton in Kapalua is open, airy, breezy, beautiful, accommodating and outstanding. My stay was for 9 (nine) unbelievable nights💕 Yes, nine nights of sleeping on pillows made of clouds and fresh linens only dreams are made of. I must mention the Nespresso in room every morning! Ok..and the most comfortable Ritz Carlton robe ever!! Take that delicious cup of joe out on your private balcony overlooking the 3rd hole on the golf course. This resort will exceed your expectations. There’s a great place to meditate under the Banyan tree. Just past the fire pit and Adirondack chairs, you’ll find a stocked koi pond of mature fish eager to greet you as you peer at their beauty. The crystal clear water allows you to focus your energy on the true wonder of nature. Stay at this spot through sunset and you’ll be rewarded with the firefly glow of dripping chandelier lights hanging in the tree. Make your way down the path that leads to the ocean and there’s a private stretch of beach for you to enjoy. I had the best time walking in the wet sand with a full moon, loud crashing waves and no worries. Be sure to unwind your mind while relaxing in one of many hammocks on the property. Get in one and stay for a while. The only thing unforgiving is the Sun, so bring the sunscreen!

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights, we have been in many other great hotels like the St Regis at Bora Bora and I have to say I leave this hotel disappointed.
1. The second day we where there they forgot to clean our room and when we got there after playing golf about 4:30 pm I had to call them and ask them to go clean, so we had to leave the room for a couple of hours when we actually wanted to rest in the room and use the bathtub.
2. In the pool we asked for food and after 2 and a half hours they didn’t bring us our food, we just canceled and leave, I was really angry.
3. In the beach we wanted to use some overpriced 100 dollar rental chairs, and they couldn’t even help us with that, we waited for almost half an hour before canceling our request and head back to the pool.
4. In general staff won’t smile or even look at you when you are talking with them. This is amazing because is customer service 101. In my check out I was explaining something at the front desk and I even got interrupted by the lady, I was amazed.
5. The are making repairs in the lobby that get pretty loud, there is a restaurant right there and is very uncomfortable, besides they don’t have a lot of options for having dinner because every other restaurant was busy all the time.
I have to say that when we got there I was really looking forward to the experience, the property is amazing, the views, the gardens, the building. I am just really sad we couldn’t enjoy the so called “amazing and outstanding guest service” RC is supposed to have.

We stayed at the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua for 2 nights. We were ending our trip around Maui with a very upscale last hotel. We got it at a super low price, which was good for us.
We were in room 2147. This was a ground floor room, very far from the lobby. My girlfriend doesn't walk well, and she had to stop and rest a couple of times on the initial trip there. She had insisted on a ground floor room, so they had upgraded us to this one, even though they knew it was farther from the lobby than the original room.
The room had 2 queen beds, TV, A/C, phone, table and 2 chairs, small fridge (with a freezer compartment), expresso coffee maker, iron and ironing board, 2 robes, an umbrella, a sewing kit, and a corkscrew. But there was no safe.
The bathroom had a tub and a separate shower.
The walkout patio had a table and 2 chairs.
The beds were very comfy, and the room was a good size. And the walk out patio made it easy to get to the pools. We also enjoyed looking at the fine golf courses, as we drove by.
After using the free shuttle to get back to the lobby, my girlfriend got a wheelchair for other trips to and from the room.
We were there for the Super Bowl game. We watched it up in the lobby, where drinks and food were available. There were multiple TV's to see it on (good), but the service in that area was very slow, and hard to get ahold of, especially after the game ended (not so good). And paying $22 for a mai tai made it the most expensive drink we had in all 6 of the Hawaiian islands we visited. Gin and tonic was $18.75, so not much difference in prices.
In our room, we never got hot water in the shower. Not good. I would let it run for 15 minutes, and got lukewarm water at best. The first time, I attributed it to being in the shower during shower rush hour, but the last morning, we were leaving early, so I was in the shower between 5 and 5:30, and it was still only lukewarm. Maybe because the room was so far from the lobby contributed to the problem (?).
I noticed that the 2 adult pools had water levels of 4 feet and 3 feet marked. I was surprised to see that the pool for kids was also marked for 4 feet. I would have thought a pool for kids would be a 3 foot pool.
I also now noticed (by looking at the pictures here) that the 2 hot tubs are heart shaped. I missed that when I tried both (and they were both sufficiently hot).
Check in and check out service was good.
Since we payed a low 3 digit figure for a $1500+ room, I'm not going to complain, but I doubt we'd return here.

yes the pools are chlorinated, but not heated
Best shaved ice is Ululani’s in Paia which is back by the airport. Our favorite restaurant is Flat Bread Pizza (all organic) right next door to the shaved ice!
The beach at the Ritz Carlton is pretty but with a steep descent and rough waves and most people do not snorkel there. You can take a free shuttle at the front outside with the bellmen and it will take you to Kapalua Bay Beach where you can rent snorkel equipment or bring your own and that is a much better beach for snorkeling. The bellman also have beach towels. The shuttle driver will ask when you want to be picked up or you can call them as they have a phone for transportation back to the hotel - about 10-15 minute ride each way. Beware that there are Lava rocks at both beaches and protective footwear would be recommended as the rocks can cut your feet. The beach there is beautiful.
