You can take a bus to Santa Maria and then a taxi to Yellow River. Another option is to take one of the buses to Machu Picchu from Cusco and arrange with the agency to be dropped off on the way to or from MP. If you were to go to Yellow River first, you would take the Santa Maria option and then arrange a taxi to Hydroelectrica from where you can take a train to MP (Aguas Calientes) or do a three hour walk.
