Outstanding location, outstanding design, outstanding history, outstanding views, outstanding staff...and food that is clearly more than 1 star! Oh, and by the way, the Gareth Ward Chefs Table experience is something that will live in the memory for life. This place...makes the soul sing.

I took my wife to Ynyshir Hall as a birthday treat. As a foodie, she loved it. The room was very nice though I think it was above the kitchen so there was some machinery noise. And I couldn't get WiFi or a mobile signal all the time we were there. There were some nice touches like a lovely coffee...

Ynyshir Hall Hotel is set deep within the beautiful Welsh countryside in the county of Powys. Only five minutes drive from the local beach and 15 minutes drive from the historic University town of Aberystwyth. In the late eighties, Joan and Rob Reen came across Ynyshir Hall, a modest little hotel established in the Sixties and decided to purchase it....

An amazing dining experience, in a lovely, friendly, peaceful hotel. Tasting menu was superb, (but not if you want piles of bland food.) Really enjoyed every course including fermented turnips and crab. Still thinking about how each course was cooked and the unique flavour combinations. Highlight was being invited into the space-age kitchen to meet the chef. Fabulous way to...

We visited mid week to take advantage of their room offers and to try their Michelin starred food. It was an excellent break. We stayed in 'Renoir' which was a luxurious and well appointed room with great views over the front of the hotel. The location is superb. At breakfast we were watching the birds busy in the grounds and...

Spectacular grounds reveal a modest whitewashed building which apparently became one of Queen Victoria's home. whose interior is luxurious, comfortable and very stylish. The wall opposite the modest reception desk is lined with photos of famous guests and the one thing they must have had in common is a desire for peace and quiet and an appreciation of fine food....

Having read the truly marmite reviews for the food at Ynyshir I was almost put off booking - to me there's nothing worse than spending money and going hungry. But it was a pretty last minute booking and as they had a dog friendly room for our Rhodesian Ridgeback (let's face it - it isn't easy to find places to...

Surprise birthday outing - and within an hour of our home. Great welcome, a good walk around the reserve next door and then a perfect time of relaxation in our room. Classically furnished - and then.....a spa bathroom like something from another planet. Crazy fun mirror, spa bath, subtle tiling and underfloor heating. Perfect after a long walk. Down for...

We have had lunch or dinner at Ynyshir Hall on several occasions now and every time the experience is a delight. From start to finish a feast for the eyes and the tastebuds. Granted, you'll not have a plateful of steak and chips here, portions may be on the (very) small side, but every mouthful is a treat, perfectly cooked,...

We came here for one night at the end of a weeks touring holiday & were immediately impressed by the pretty & well kept setting. On check in we were greeted a Burmese mountain dog who was something of a gentle giant but a bit of a surprise. We were given a guided tour by a personable male receptionist who...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Ynyshir is a five star restaurant with rooms near the Snowdonia National Park, Aberystwyth and Machynlleth. The Michelin Star restaurant at Ynyshir is one of Wales' best contemporary fine dining destinations and holds four AA rosettes - one of only two restaurants in Wales to hold this distinction. Michelin Star chef Gareth Ward serves alternative British tasting menus using the very best of Welsh and British produce. The menus showcase the best of Welsh ingredients following the seasons, such as Welsh Wagyu Beef and Anglesey Onions throughout the year, as well as locally foraged sea herbs from the estuary and greens from the woodland floor and Ynyshir's extensive gardens. During hunting season expect to see wild deer and local duck, grouse and partridge, and in summer Welsh Lamb from the Dyfi valley. Gareth and his team pickle, salt, ferment and preserve fruits, leaves and berries carrying the harvests through the winter and into the spring. Expect to see dishes such as 'Not French Onion Soup', 'Mackerel Sweet & Sour' and Gareths take on a Tiramisu all served alongside a carefully selected wine-list whilst overlooking the Cambrian mountains and Ynyshir's extensive gardens Ynyshir has a total of ten luxuriously furnished guest rooms, each with its own unique style and character. There are seven rooms within the main house and three deluxe rooms directly adjacent. Each guest room has an en-suite with a separate bath and shower and feature premium Temple Spa products. Most rooms offer views over the gardens and Cambrian Mountains. ... more   less
