Quamby Estate is a beautiful location and understandably a popular location for Wedding functions. The grounds are beautiful and the buildings steeped in history. The rooms were small as expected but nicely modernised. Left pretty much alone (very alone) by skeleton staff. Little things could have made a huge difference to our stay. Tips would include:- 1. Offering to help with luggage. Maybe this is an OHS issue. 2. Upgrading very dodgy Nespresso coffee and tea station and consider barista coffee. Even a Breville Barista machine in the kitchen would be a solid investment. 3. Attention to fires when people using the library areas in afternoon/evening. 4. Meals were not hot. Evening meal disappointing. Breakfast was obviously reheated as cook had left. Maybe this was a one off bad 24 hours but pretty ordinary. This was much improved on our departure morning after highlighting the issue and very kindly not charged for breakfast day before. I suspect that Quamby Estate is more focussed on weekend functions and that midweek stays are not a major part of the business plan. Hospitality is all about the personal touch. I presume Quamby Estate is going through a transitional phase compared to the stellar reviews in the past.…
We had a lovely night at Quamby Estate after walking the Overland Track. A great way to unwind. The estate and homestead is beautiful and serene. The bedroom was well sized and well appointed. The common areas for lounging and dining are beautiful with amazing high ceilings. The only slight drawback was our dinner where the tuna was over-spiced. However, the other dishes were excellent. We loved being able to get up in the morning and have a hit around their surprisingly well-maintained (and quite lengthy) golf course. Thanks
We were there with friends who had stayed there previously with Em and Sarah as hosts and had really loved it. Em and Sarah have moved on and Chris and Jordan have taken over. They are still settling in to their roles and Chris in particular was working very hard to establish things. It is a relaxed stay however there are some systems and standards that need improvement. There is no assistance offered with your bags on arrival, which may relate to staff numbers but set the tone for this not being a luxury stay but more like a B&B than a hotel. The tour of the property was interesting and informative, explaining things like when the bar opened and selecting dinner. We turned up for drinks at the informed time on the first day and came back after 10 minutes of no service. When we came back 10 minutes later there was no ice, ice tongs or tonic as the previous party had exclusive use so things weren't where they should have been. Dinner was a mixed affair and generally sounded better than it looked or tasted. For example, the chimmichurri on the steak felt like it had cayenne rather than chilli and was mouth numbing and was left by everybody at our table. Wine knowledge and the wine list were fine and interesting Tasmanian wines predominated. The breakfasts were more consistent than dinners, included excellent home made baked beans, a full cooked breakfast and porridge. Breakfast plates were not cleared at ours or any other tables, leaving the room looking messy every day and may have been a signal to move on as quickly as possible. The same could be said of the self making coffee area which had to be sorted before it could be used on the only day I used it, where I had to fill up the Nespresso machine with water, empty the used pods, clear dirty cups to access the machine, etc. Cleaning standards for the rooms were high and we were very appreciative of the attention to detail from the cleaning staff who looked after our beautiful room well. The room was spacious, comfortable, well appointed and had really nice local toiletries. Although the property was small and we were there for three nights no one called us by name which added to the feeling of an impersonal stay. In all, we would stay here again and wish the hosts well in managing this historic property, where you will feel like you are transported to the UK or Ireland, except that the service there would generally be better.…
Wonderful first time overnight visit to this colonial estate. The grounds and outbuildings are really interesting and begin to tell the story of this place. The main house itself is outstanding, furnished throughout with antiques, crammed bookshelves and lovely items such as hand painted silk wall hangings. Bedrooms are similarly attractive and very very comfortable. We were upgraded to a deluxe spa room, an unexpected pleasure. As we happened to be the only guests we dined ‘a deux’ overlooking the garden vista. Breakfasted the next morning in the same area but with the French doors wide open to the sunlit verandah with a great view of the wedding tree. Jordan and Chris were affable, friendly and accommodating during our stay. One minor issue during our stay and they managed it impeccably. Cannot recommend highly enough.…
We had been looking forward to staying at the Quamby homestead since we had booked in January, having heard so many wonderful stories from friends who had stayed in the past. We have been absolutely delighted with our stay, from the moment we were so warmly welcomed on our arrival by Emma. Our room was amazing! Luxurious and beautifully warm. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom one of the largest and most sumptuous we have had in all our travels. We stayed in room seven! Dinners and breakfasts were prepared by Sarah, an outstanding chef who created beautiful meals throughout our stay. The wine selection was extensive and Emma a font of knowledge on what might suit our tastes, We spent our days exploring the region, visiting Liffey Falls and the local hazelnut farm, Hazelbrae. However walking around Quamby’s beautiful gardens and taking the stroll through the oak lined drive was probably the greatest pleasure we enjoyed. The kindness and care shown to us by both Em and Sarah have us already planning a return visit as soon as time allows. Quamby Estate is not to be missed! …
I had organised to come play golf with some mates at the golf course because I had heard it was a great course. My mates and I are relatively new when it comes to golf, but we know the basic rules of how to play and look after the course. When we had finished and were just on the final hole, someone who I was assuming was a member of staff of the grounds came up and was very rude to my mates and I. He swore at us several times, saying that we weren’t taking care of the course even though we had been filling in our divets along the way and had been careful as well, especially on the greens. He did not give us advice or offer feedback to us, but instead proceeded to make us feel unwelcome and very uncomfortable, talking at us in a very rude fashion, and even mentioning that ‘if the grounds man had been there, he would have been f****** pissed’. The course was good, but this unfortunate ruined the experience for us a bit. It’s hard for new golfers to begin to play and get into the sport when getting treated like this.…
Our two night stay at Quamby was the perfect way to conclude our Tasmanian adventure. It gave us time to relax and enjoy the surroundings. Emma made us feel like we were in a family home and Sarah’s food was simply delightful. We enjoyed our room with en-suite. It was spacious, well appointed and quiet. We slept very well. The showcasing of Tasmania’s great food and beverages enhanced the experience. The nine-hole golf course has some impressive and interesting challenges and will make sure that I return at some point with my golf clubs. Thanks for your generous and professional hospitality. Thanks for your vote.
We were looking for a romantic getaway for one night in a historic but luxurious surrounds and Quamby estate ticked every box. Sara & Emma are the perfect hosts making you feel right at home. The grounds are gorgeous. We were in room 3, just off the main building with a king size 4 poster bed and modern luxurious bathroom. It was warm and cosy but spacious and romantic. Dinner was superb in the stunning lounge area as was breakfast. A must do whilst in Tassie!
As soon as we arrived I thought why has it been four years since our last visit. Our stay was fantastic, from the personalised service provided by Emma, to the fantastic food cooked by Sarah, to the venue, everything was perfect. After we arrived we went for a walk along the old tree lined driveway. Then having worked up a thirst we enjoyed a few drinks in the bar. Then dinner time, and what a meal it was. We finished a perfect day with Port in the lounge room by the fire. Thanks so much Emma and Sarah.
Beautifully kept house and grounds. Emma and Sarah were wonderful hosts, very friendly and attentive, certainly making the visit very special. The rooms were fabulous, we stayed two nights, before and after a hike on the Overland Track so experienced two different rooms. The rooms are gorgeous, very large and well appointed huge bathrooms. Breakfast and dinner we both delicious and well presented in the fabulous dining room. There is a lovely small bar for pre-dinner drinks. Would definitely love to stay again!
