we have stayed at summer hill Farm, and just simply loved it! It was so nice to get away from everything and enjoy the honest retro style of this lovely place. We thoroughly enjoyed the decor which is so far from the slickness many places like to present. We loved our farm walk, meeting the alpacas (I don't remember the name of the cute one in the stables?) and the small dogs Beverly keeps at the house. For us listening to the birds, and other wildlife was a relief from busy city life. A great weekend! Sorry that it tok so long to review!)

As soon as you find the property, it's charming and has its own uniuqe tranquiity to it. We had booked the cottage which is more than enough for a couple. The back of the cottage overlooked a beautiful surroundings with bunnies and alpacas. The wooden fire place gave it a cozy touch with enough heaters to keep you warm on those cold winter nights. it was also nice not to have any signal on your mobile, as the outside world couldnt contact us and we couldnt contact them.
Our host was amaxing, and breakfast with awesome with all the frsh ingredients.

Furniture and decor from the 50's and dirt and grime from the same era, together with several posses of possums living in the ceiling. Smelt of damp and dust. Water tasted of iron and was undrinkable. Lasted just the one night.

Response from Beverley B, Owner at Summerhill Farm Bed & Breakfast
Responded 7 May 2014
Dear RedGirl63 Feedback from guests is always welcome - even negative feedback, as it ensures we investigate issues and helps us improve. Native possums are very appealing, but perhaps not in the middle of the night when you are trying to sleep! Since your visit, the possum family has been rehoused. Thank you for alerting me to this issue. And due to your feedback, we are now also making bottled water available in the rooms. While our tap water is pure rain water and does not contain the fluoride or chloride that is found in mains water, and so will taste different from (and we think, better than) town water, guests now have the option of bottled water if they prefer. Most visitors let me know how much they appreciate the tranquillity, amenity and the 1950's retro atmosphere of the cottage. This casual, comfortable, curl-up-on-the-couch style of decor may not be to everyone's taste. As yours was a last-minute booking due to your new caravan leaking - and was organised and paid for entirely by the caravan company - perhaps this style is not what you would have chosen for yourselves. And certainly having the wood heater, while adding to the atmosphere, means that sometimes bits of timber and bark find their way to where they shouldn't! Nonetheless, the cottage is thoroughly cleaned between guests. If you had let me know at the time of any cleanliness issue, I would have taken instant steps to rectify it. I pride myself on offering clean, comfortable and welcoming facilities, and the feedback we receive for the Cottage - with this one exception - reflects this aim. Customer satisfaction is my priority and I am committed to providing guests with a warm welcome and a peaceful stay. I was thus more than happy to give you a full refund for the second night, which I was not obliged to do, and which you neglected to mention in your review. I hope that others reading your review and this response will keep an open mind and look up other reviews of our beautiful property and accommodation before making a decision. Visitors are always very welcome to come and inspect our facilities, visit our website (just google Summerhill Farm B&B) or to ring and chat if they would like more information. Alternatively, the local visitor centre at Dromana can also provide information - free call 1800 804 009 or google ‘visitmorningtonpeninsula’. Yours sincerely Beverley Baker

Lights Camera .......The only action is nature, Everywhere. Sketch book and pencil, perhaps camera, or paints. The tranquillity is amazing, the ambience is magic. Right out of a Beatrix Potter Scene.
The original cottage is so private, the gardens cottage and farm blend, complete with bunny rabbits everywhere, blue wrens, parrots, the silence at night and during the day only interrupted by nature.
Beverly is a dream and a legend. The location is just so hidden away, you could be anywhere in the world.
If you want fancy this and fancy that, not for you, this is pure old world charm, just as though time has stood still.
Gorgeous walking location, wineries near by, as is everything from Red Hill, Arthurs Seat, Shoreham, Flinders...Magic.

Beautiful surrounds, such lovely ambience - all that lovely furniture (!), and of course the friendly ambling alpacas, chickens, dogs, possum ... A treat for the senses. Breakfast thoughtfully provided and more than adequate for our party of 4. Thank you.

Thank you for your review 86Business_Traveller. I"m glad you enjoyed your stay. Not too sure about the possums though. Bertie beagle doesn't see them as an attraction, he has a badly scratched nose so I think he may have had a disagreement with one. Come back again some time. You are very welcome.

We had the Edwardian Room. Who built an Edwardian home on the peninsula? Nobody. Ask Beverley.
Coldest night of the year apparently but plenty of coziness and all we wished for in breakfast after our big night out just up the road.

I recently had my second very enjoyable stay at Summerhill Farm B&B. It is an easy drive from Melbourne and a wonderful peaceful retreat from the city. I feel at home in the country so love the opportunity to walk about the farm and see the alpacas. I find the accommodation comfortable and clean and I personally love the décor of the cottage. The generous breakfast provisions featured local produce that we cooked for ourselves. Bev was extremely helpful and has a great knowledge of the local area. I find Summerhill Farm is an ideal base to explore Red Hill and the wider peninsula, one of my favourite holiday destinations. Thanks again Bev for a great stay!

We arrived at this cottage which overlooks a pastoral and attractive landscape. However we were disappointed by the lack of attention to this potentially lovely rural retreat. Firstly, we experienced a toilet malfunction which we mentioned to our host. Although that problem was fixed, the toilet structure was unsteady and swayed when sat upon. In addition, the bathroom heater didn't work and the ' so called bbq' was inadequate for our needs. An electric one it required carrying the same outside, plugging it in to a power point and cooking. However, we decided not to use it because there was no place for the grease to go except into the garden. Another negative factor was the dirt around this cottage. Retro it was but not clean enough for our standards. On a very positive note, though, our host generously provided us with all our breakfast requirements plus sweet biscuits and fresh fruit.

Response from Beverley B, Owner at Summerhill Farm Bed & Breakfast
Responded 20 Apr 2016
Dear Sylvia (although I thought your name was Sarah) I'm sorry your visit was less than satisfactory, but even negative reviews are welcome as it lets me know when there are issues that need to be addressed. The problem with the blocked toilet was unfortunate but quite beyond my control. Remember this is a farm and not connected to a main sewerage system. It is a septic system and blockages can sometimes happen. However you will recall it was rectified within 10 minutes. The toilet bowl only needed new screws which I didn't know about, but it too has now been fixed. It is an older style cottage and things can and do occasionally go wrong. However the heater in the bathroom seems to be working perfectly. Regarding the bbq. We once had an unfortunate incident with guests using naked flames outside, hence the large electric hot plate. Lack of outdoor storage means it must be kept inside. I'm not sure what you mean by 'dirt around this cottage'. The cottage is thoroughly cleaned after each guest, or did you mean the grounds? Perhaps you found all the fallen autumn leaves too messy? Hard to keep on top of at this time of year, but it is something most guests find very attractive. Again it is a farm, not suburbia. I'm glad you enjoyed your breakfasts, biscuits and fruit, and thank you for returning the key. However I am still missing two wooden coat hangers - plastic ones are of no use to me. Beverley

Our 2nd stay here. Just as lovely as the first time we stayed. Incredibly quiet location on the beautiful Mornington Peninsula. Fresh bread, tomato's, bacon, eggs and orange juice in the fridge as well as milk and plenty of tea and coffee. Such a lovely place to enjoy a coffee looking out over the paddocks and listening to the birds

Dear Tilor Thank you for your positive review. I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay. It's lovely to be appreciated for what Summerhill Farm is all about - nothing too slick or sophisticated, but cosy, quiet, tranquil and a small taste of country life without too many frills. I hope you come back again for another visit. Beverley.
