We spent a few nights at Town Barton last October and enjoyed it so much that we did the same again this year. The rooms at Town Barton are large, comfortable and warm, and even when other guests are staying, there is very little noise from outside or inside. Rooms have their own fridge, kettle and toaster with a great selection of Tea Pigs teas plus a couple of different blends of filter coffee. Around 100m away from Town Barton, The Nobody Inn is a fantastic place to eat & drink. It has a small menu, but the dishes are excellent. The wine list is comprehensive and if you enjoy whisky, they have a superb selection (pity I don't like it really). Nick is a great host and can provide a very nice light breakfast in your room (delivered the night before). This consists of fruit juice, cereal & muesli and bread for toast with a selection of preserves. Well worth the £5 and in my opinion better value than full breakfast you can have at the Nobody Inn (which Nick can arrange).…
We have stayed here many times over the years. It is owned by the gentleman who used to own the Nobody Inn, which is about 200 yds away. He still has arrangements with the pub whereby he will make a booking in the pub for English breakfast or dinner. Access to the pub is via the road or through a field - which is a lovely stroll in the summer with the butterflies around and birds singing. The rooms are large and have en suite bathrooms and have a fridge with fresh milk and water. The setting is beautiful and peaceful and although we have never stayed in the pub, I am sure Town Barton is a lot quieter - if you like that ! Nick is the perfect host.
We stayed here overnight for a friends birthday, as we were dining at The Nobody Inn. This place was fabulous, we were lucky to have the four poster bed, which was supremely comfortable. Could not fault the place for attention to detail, my only complaint was they did not offer a cooked breakfast, however we ate breakfast at the inn which was less than a 5 minute walk away.
The Town Baton is a very comfortable house that was formerly a Rectory. Beatifully mantained with large rooms. Nick is the perfect host. He arranged a car and driver for us for for an excellent all day tour of Dartmoor. Of course it is next door to my favourite restaurant in the world, The Nobody Inn.
We stayed here 3 nights on a short break to Devon, but ended up here by chance. We'd discovered the Nobody Inn online but it was full and so were recommended here instead. Now I have no issue with the Nobody Inn, in fact I LOVED it - fantastic food, excellent pub and a lovely place - but Town Barton offers that little escape. Once owned by the same people, Town Barton enjoys the best of both worlds, a well managed B&B with the benefit of not having to provide the breakfast! The full English is provided at the Nobody Inn, so staying at Town Barton you can be assured of real peace & quiet (not just because of the neighbouring churchyard) but because you are not woken as you are in so many old pub/B&Bs by the smell of bacon or clatter of cutlery. Instead you can choose to wake as you wish and take a lovely morning stroll across the small field separating the 2 establishments, taking in the fresh country air, and greeting the resident sheep as you go (and anyone who has stayed will attest that that blast of air will be welcome as no doubt most evenings ended like our - sampling the fabulous wine, ale and/or whiskies at the Nobody Inn. OK I realise I haven't commented on the accommodation - spacious, modern, very comfortable, and all as noted on the website.. no need for me to repeat that! Stay here if you want a quiet refuge in very quiet village (well, more hamlet than village!). Please dont stay with kids or if you are looking to party! HIGHLY recommended…
