Punga Cove is one of those resorts that has something special about it. Some of the apartments are a bit tired and the new ones are quite expensive but the backpackers is an absolute bargain provided you sleep soundly or have ear plugs. The resort is on a hill side so its steep paths to negotiate. The bar/cafe at the...

We stayed in an A frame chalet which had wonderful views. This was night two walking the Queen Charlotte track. Sitting relaxing at the bar by the jetty was fun - watching boats coming and going. We might have had a bad selection at the restaurant for dinner, but my advice is don't get a salad. We wanted a light...

First of all one star is given due the fact the location is amazing, but aside from that, the staff are shocking and very rude, I have never felt so unwelcome staying somewhere in NZ. And then the fact it was 155 a night for a room that was substandard nothing flasher than a typical $30 backpackers. Restaurant is also...

We had a great trip to Punga and wished we had stayed there an extra night after going to The Portage! The place did need some love in areas but on whole it was brilliant. We upgraded to a 2 bed cabin $300 pn but we did get a discount as we stayed for two. This was a two bed...

What a welcome sight Punga Cove was for these weary trampers! We were warmly welcomed by our hosts, who are clearly used to knowing the needs of weary guests.... Drying room, hot shower, hot tub! The drying room was our salvation after being saturated during our walk - and it did the trick - everything was completely dry by the...

We arrived at Punga Cove after our second day of walking the QCT. Everything well organised in advance of our arrival and spend a nice hour or two at the waterside cafe sipping the local ales and watching the comings and goings at the jetty. Room was really nice, clean with great views. Both dinner and brekkie next morning were...

There was really not much choice if we wanted to do the QCT comfortably. The setting is beautiful, but the cabins being built up the slope was a little challenging after a lot of walking. The balcony from my hillside cabin provided a sensational view. The tv was small and of poor quality. The rooms are reasonable. There are no...

The setting is amazing but the resort is a bit tired. The staff were friendly and very hard working. The A frame was pretty retro but the bed was comfortable and welcome after a day of walking. The food wasn't out of this world but more than met the mark.

Stayed in the backpacker's accommodation for 1 night. Positives: Lovely view. Very nice staff member one of the cleaning staff called Brenda who was polite and helpful and good fun! We got the hot tub to ourselves which was lovely. Room itself was ok. Negatives: Although the backpacker room itself was ok there was no heating in it and it...

We didn't stay at the resort, we only ate in the restaurant, the waitress was attentive, and the food was average however the amount of flies in the restaurant was off putting but possibly understandable due to the location, but the dead flies on the floor were even more off putting, I counted 7 under our table!
