Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We visited this restaurant just to eat, it was excellent and priced just right. Lovely welcome, very friendly. Will certainly visit again. Note the sorbet with the Forêt Noire dessert was sublime, intense flavour the like of which I’ve never experienced.

We have been visiting this restaurant for more than twenty-five years and been very satisfied with it. Indeed, several years ago we recommended it to Sophie Grigson when she was visiting restaurants with a view to reviewing them. But today it was terrible. When we went in, there were people smoking on the terrace just outside the entrance and the smoke was drifting in. Then the waitress (there was no maitre d') showed us to our places without any welcoming smile. The bread rolls were over baked, hard and inedible. My dish, steak in camembert sauce, was brought with the handle of the steak knife (it hadn't been put on the table when I ordered) sitting in the sauce. No apology! But the final straw was when my son-in-law's dish was not brought with those for the rest of us. We waited five minutes for it to arrive before starting ours but, even then, we had finished before his dish arrived, a good fifteen minutes later! So we decided to cut short our visit and cancelled the desserts (which we had to order in advance). The waitress didn't argue but I can't describe her manner than any more than not unpleasant. To be totally fair, the food when it arrived was excellent, but the service was so poor (I've *never* known it so bad) that it really ruined a nice treat offered to me by my daughter and son-in-law. What a pity! Was the patron on holiday and these were substitute staff? We have a holiday house within four miles of Pont d'Ouilly which makes it a very convenient venue but now I feel as though I need to find another restaurant to which I can invite friends.

This is one of our regular restaurants in Normandy, in Pont D'Ouilly. Although some distance from the sea it specialises in excellent seafood. Our favourite meal is oysters followed by lobster flambe with whiskey!

Ideally situated in the Swiss Normandy region. Very friendly. Rooms clean and quite basic, but all facilities are there. Breakfast very simple but adequate. The restaurant was first class with a wide choice, well presented, served and cooked. Suggest asking for areas room if light sleeper as traffic noise early morning can be intrusive at the front.

On and off we have eaten at the Commerce for getting on for 20 years including a Christmas lunch on one occasion. The current chef took over the hotel/restaurant some 3 years or so ago, and for a variety of reasons we haven't been back since he took over. But we did twice recently and we are delighted that we did. Although an hour or so from the coast the seafood in particular is superb - particularly the lobster. On the first of our recent visits just my wife had the lobster and I had scallops - but we then decided to have a lobster evening and it was excellent, made even more enjoyable be fabulous oysters. Highly recommended.

Had to cancel at last minute - Beware !!! I quite understand losing the night's room booking cost, BUT not at all happy at being charged as well for two breakfasts that were not required or consumed - this is sheer robbery !!!!

Mr Michelin must have been having an off day in deciding to include this one in his guide. A warm enough welcome couldn't hide a fusty musty smell in the lobby and generally outdated look of the place. Our room was ok but nothing special, unless you consider having two basins the be all and end all (personally I'd swap one of them for a lavatory I can fit into properly without a sliding plastic door). Breakfast 8 euro. We'd ordered it for two because our 4 year old doesn't eat much; they hadn't even put a chair for her... Breakfast itself was fine, plentiful but simple. But there was nothing of the wow factor here, just a lot of the ok factor with that musty smell a lingering background to all the fineness.

Travelling back through France last week we decided to explore Swiss Normandy, we reserved the hotel after using TripAdvisor. It was not necessary to provide card details, the reservation was taken on trust, always a good sign. On arrival we were greeted by the Chef who I think was also the owner, this is a small family owned business. Despite our minimal French, we were made very welcome, the room was large and very clean and the bed comfortable. We had our evening meal in the hotel where the chef cooked a special vegetarian dish even though it was not on the menu. Breakfast was typical French, but plentiful and the coffee was excellent. I could not fault this hotel and would even consider staying for a longer period if they also had a lounge with armchairs to sit and relax, but they are more focused on short stop travelers. This is not a complaint, just an observation.

An excellent little gem. Quality restaurant, superb location and perhaps just a little too close to the main road (especially a problem in summer when it is hot and the windows are open). The restaurant especially was first class with all that can be expected from a Normand location. Un bon petit hotel en plein compagne en Suisse Normande. A reserver sans soucis.
