I might run out of superlatives on this review - food simply divine both dinner and breakfast, massive comfy bed, stunning views off the terrace and from our room of Skiddaw, staff delightful. Lounge area lovely and relaxing. Only feedback is the bathroom is tiny, options when adpating the old house were probably restricted but it does let the room...

We absolutely adored staying at The Cottage in the Wood. My family and I had the six-course taster menu on Saturday night and it was heavenly - one of the best meals we've ever had. The rooms are very peaceful. The view from the conservatory at breakfast is beautiful. It's also in a great location for walkers! Kath and her...

I visited the cottage in the woods for the first time with friends for dinner in May. The location is stunning! We were to have the taster menu and in all honesty each and every course was sublime. Their chef Richard has clearly put so much effort into exploring how the flavours and textures of the various ingredients work, so...

Well-run, small hotel, situated in an area of natural beauty. Friendly & welcoming atmosphere. The room although small contained all the necessities & was clean & well maintained. We booked on a dinner, bed & breakfast basis & enjoyed the food. All locally sourced produce. The breakfast in particular was excellent. Even the marmalade & other preserves were made on...

We recently stayed for 3 nights and it was wonderful. The room was clean, comfortable and quiet. The food was excellent. We dined in the restaurant one evening and was not disappointed. Breakfast every morning was wonderful and to top it off we watched red squirrels whilst we dined.

Excellent hotel and deserves its 5 stars on tripadvisor. A small family-ran hotel with impeccable service but not too overbearing. Our room was comfy and we dined two out of three nights. The menu was exciting and the food was excellent and Michelin star quality for half the price. It's a short drive from Keswick and Buttermere is worth a...

My wife and I visited the Cottage in the Woods for our wedding anniversary. We stayed for three nights and could not have been happier with our stay. Location: In the heart of the Lake District. Easy to find despite being tucked away in the woods with beautiful views across the hills. You don't come here for a quick walk...

Fantastic welcome , fantastic food , fantastic room . We cannot wait to go back .I lost my love for the lakes after a lot of bad hotels and bed and breakfasts but Kathy and her staff have changed all that from the minute you walk through the door to when you leave nothing is a problem . You must...

We had a fantastic time here in August on our 'Foodie' trip through the North. Our stay was sandwiched between L'enclume and Holbeck Ghyll, and in terms of the food it certainly wasn't hidden. While L'enclume has the theatre and 'experience' aspect of dining, what Kath and her small team produced was nothing short of incredible, and of the three...

Gorgeous little stay at The Cottage in the Wood. Incredible location, the views on the drive up were stunning, tranquil bliss. The room was diddy but lovely, very warm and cosy. Excellent customer service and a very relaxed, inviting atmosphere. The evening meal was absolutely amazing, each dish was a piece of art (see pictures) and so so tasty... a...
