We thought that Monsanto would be really countryside so we kept that in mind but it was really good better than we thought. This house is right front of the bus station about 3 minutes by walking with our big baggages. It is really quiet city not many people but the restaurant and market owners spoke English pretty well. And...

This is a beautiful old building in the middle of this unique little village built into the Boulder prolific hillside. The lady running this Casa is very nice. She does mot speak any English, but that is easily fixed with some local help, if you don't speak Portuguese. We stayed one night in one of the very spacious rooms. Our...

We can't add much to Aleena's recent review. The property manager speaks only Portuguese (but is a real sweetheart). Our room (ground floor) was a bit musty and we could hear the people in the adjoining room, but it was also a very cool retreat from the afternoon heat. The furniture is a bit old, but we found the decor...

Monsanto was chosen in 1938 as the "Most Portuguese village in Portugal", and indeed it is a very authentic and unique small village, located on the slopes of a steep hill, below the ruins of an ancient castle on its summit. The entire village is built in-between huge boulders that are often an integral component of the houses and appear...

ROOM: The room was smelling of old, had two one-person squeaky beds, a nightstand, a TV commode with a little CRT TV, an armchair, 2 chairs and a small wardrobe - all very old. The bathroom was spacious and simple, with a bathtub, a sink and a bidet. But more important, it was original & unconventional, built around one of...

My wife and I stayed here based on previous reviews and although the room was a bit dusty and the breakfast very basic, it seemed to fit in with the experience of Monsanto. The housekeepervead very friendly and although she spoke no English we seemed to comunicate. Chafariz is ideally located and parking is very close. I would recommend Chafariz...

The village of Monsanto is very Portuguese, as advertised. Little to no English spoken here. My room was charming, clean, and built to include a huge boulder which ran from the bedroom into the bathroom. The tiny 'hotel' has a tiny balcony atop the courtyard with fabulous view of the valley below. So quiet at night. The hotel matron spoke...

Located in Monsanto considered to be the most portuguese village in Portugal. Up in the mountains you will think that you're in prehistoric times. Large boulders surround the area and are embedded into the houses. You can leave your car near the chapel and a very short walk to the house. Lovely large rooms with some modern and antique furniture....

Clean, rustic and very welcoming rooms. With private bathroom, also spotlessly clean. The common courtyard at portuguese style is typical of that country's region and quite beautiful. The lady in charge is extremely friendly and very helpful! I highly recommend!

We got a really large room with rocks integrated in the walls. Everything is clean and tidy. Celeste, the house matron, is very friendly and made a great breakfast for us. Only Portuguese spoken, some Spanish or 'Portuñol' work also. Great value in a fascinating mountain village.
