A beautiful beach resort. So good we have been here twice in the last month. We came for a long weekend in early February and booked for another long weekend in early March on our first day. Yes that good. We took our 2 mini dachshunds with us too. A gorgeous location, beautifully appointed beach bungalows, friendly staff, very good service and excellent food. And Toowoon Bay Beach is one of the nicest beaches you could find. Fairly sheltered and family safe, also lifeguard patrolled.
Our spacious very well appointed Beach Bungalow was step on the sand. We ordered dinner each afternoon at 4pm when the daily menu came out and had it delivered to our bungalow to eat on our front deck at around 6pm, a lovely option as we couldn’t take the sausage dogs to food service areas and we don’t leave them alone on their own. We did the same for breakfast which suited us as we sat and ate our meals looking at the ocean just in front of us.
The food is very good. And not Sydney city restaurant prices. All the breakfast pastries too are made in-house.
The resort is exceptionally well maintained and very well staffed, which has been an issue for hospitality in our pandemic era. They must have a good area to draw staff from, of different ages and all friendly and welcoming.
Everything you could want in a beach bungalow was in our spacious and very comfortable bungalow.
Kims is not inexpensive but worth every bit of it.
Highly recommended.

So romantic, so blissful. From the moment one arrives and you make your way through immaculate tidy and clean tropical pathway to reception. The reception staff are so friendly and helpful immediately putting you at rest. No 5 stars cause the car park is very small and not big enough to accomodate all staying there. But the grounds WOW you feel like you have left your cares at the entrance. All staff are so friendly. Accom was immaculate, we stayed in a garden spa unit. The spa is in a private attached area completely secluded from eyesight of others. The accom ambience is full on romantic including dual showers. Breakfast was included and what a selection. A special shout out to Corina and Tracey. Two of the best hospitality workers I have ever met, so warm, cordial and friendly. There is so much history in this place making it so interesting to learn about. Could not recommend this place any higher as a place you should visit.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on your recent stay with us. We are so pleased to hear that you felt so relaxed while staying with us! The Garden Spa Bungalow with private heated jacuzzi is a very popular style of room and we are so happy that you enjoyed it. We have three carparks at Kims with enough parking for all and we do direct guests to the carpark closest to their accommodation on check-in. It is unusual for the carpark to be so full and we are sorry that this happened during your stay. Our selection for breakfast is a popular way to start the day and we are so happy that you enjoyed the inclusion. Your comments will certainly be passed on to Carina and Tracey, we take pride in our staff and know that they are amazing! It is lovely for you to mention them and they will be thrilled. Thank you again for your review and we look forward to welcoming you to Kims on your next visit.

Sitting on our room balcony, there's something special about the experience of watching surfers catching the early morning break, witnessing early morning swimmers pass by, and seeing whales splashing in the distance. It's truly unique to just take a dozen steps to feel the sand between your toes, although the cheap plastic balcony furniture seemed out of place with these experiences and to the rest of the room.

While our beachfront spa room was nicely presented and elegant, for us, it lacked a high-end or modern feel, especially the bathroom.

Our dinner was enjoyable, though I expected something better. It's been a while since I've experienced a restaurant where the waiter returns to explain they've run out of my chicken choice. So my second choice meal, was… my second choice. Unfortunately, I remembered this place as the go-to spot for food; breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Nevertheless, it's definitely a location where you feel cocooned from the outside world which creates that sense of escape that’s also easily accessible by car from Sydney.

My partner and I stayed here for the long weekend from 3/10-7/10. We left to do activities in the morning of Sunday 6/10 and when we got back to the room at around 9pm, we looked around and there were flying insects in almost every nook and cranny of our bungalow, including all over our bed (see photos). After investigating, we found out the housekeeper had the windows open during the day letting the bugs in. This would have been fine if it wasn’t for the fact that the reception desk is closed after 6pm on Sunday and no one picks up the “after hours” emergency number either, we called over 20 times. We managed to find a bottle of Mortein bug spray in the cupboard which we sprayed around the room, but obviously after spraying that amount of Mortein and not being able to open the windows for ventilation, we had no choice but to stand outside for an hour in the cold and wait for the chemicals to settle. When we went back inside we had to take the sheets/pillows off the bed since there were dead bugs everywhere and sleep on a single sheet with no blankets. Throughout the night the bugs kept falling on us while we were in bed and we would wake up with bugs crawling around and under us. Truly traumatising. In the morning we spoke to the receptionist and she told us management was not in that day (public holiday) and they would call us on Tuesday so we left after barely getting any sleep. On Tuesday, no one had called by midday so I called the “hotel” and they said management was not in again, but later changed their story saying management will call me later. Once the owner called, I was met with a very dismissive attitude from this bloke who seemed like he had 100 better things to do than discuss what happened saying “we apologised a hundred times, I don’t know what you want me to do”. I had to practically beg for compensation and all he said was “we thoughtfully dismissed the charge for the dinner and that should be enough compensation” (the dinner was $200 and I practically paid almost $3,000 to practically sleep with bugs crawling around my bed). This is not a five-star hotel at all, I would warn anyone to think twice before booking.

Thank you for your review. Being in a sub-tropical rainforest on the ocean, we are immersed in nature here at Kims, which means there are lots of animals and insects about. The sudden hot weather also attracts more bugs/insects. We apologise that they were inside your room. Our bungalows are thoroughly cleaned prior to guests arriving and we service the rooms each day during your stay. We have not had any complaints similar to yours. We apologise the emergency number was not answered, we have since had our telephone technician fix this problem. As a gesture of goodwill, we note we refunded you the cost of your dinner and an amount towards accommodation, a total of $900.00 was refunded.

We have always wanted to try Kim’s and compare it with Bannisters where we normally go for special occasions. My husband and I stayed for 3 nights at Kim’s for our combined birthday celebration after booking one month prior to our stay. Disappointment started on entry to our room which in no way reflected the picture on their website. Bate advertising at its best stood before us. The pictures of our room choice on the Kim’s website displayed beach views; our view was an array of terracotta tiled roofs. We complained to the manager who I understand has been running Kim's for some years and is the niece of the owner. The manager advised us that the trees had grown over the years and she could not remove them at our whim. When my husband stated that by not supplying updated pictures on the Kim’s website and this was referred to as bate advertising which could be legally challenged her tone swiftly changed, and we were given a small rebate on the nightly rate as no other rooms were available. The rooms are old and outdated and require complete refurbishment for the rate charged.
At $530 a night no hot breakfast is provided, instead a small continental breakfast is provided, and I mean very small. Percolated coffee (who has this anymore??) is free whilst an expresso pod coffee is charged at $4 a slug….what hotel doesn’t have a proper coffee machine and why aren’t pod expresso machines in every room. I can pay $200 a night in a Sydney hotel which includes a hot breakfast, proper coffee and coffee pod machines in your room…..
Next comes dinner. A limited menu due to COVID is provided at the present time. We both chose the ‘crispy skin pork loin, gingered apple compote and red wine jus, served with roasted Kipfler potato, parsnip, carrot and green beans’. We were presented with a meal that resembled a baked dinner from the local RSL and the pork not loin looked and tasted like something from Coles. The ginger apple compote was apple sauce out of a jar. The wine list included Yellowtail chardonnay at $15 a glass which can be purchased for $8 a bottle.
A bottle of $6.95 sparkling wine was left in our room for our birthday, whilst the gesture was appreciated sprucing it up with an ice bucket and glasses like anywhere else would have been nice.
The staff on the other hand were an absolute delight always eager to please. COVID face masks and the wearing of PPE for cleaning rooms were either not provided nor used by staff.
We won’t be returning we found Kim’s to be overpriced, old and tired and in need of new management.

Thank you for taking the time to provide a detailed recount of your recent visit with us. We do take all feedback very seriously and have investigated your comments. The accommodation that you booked is called a Terrace Spa Bungalow. This particular style of accommodation is an individual free-standing bungalow in an elevated position amongst our sub tropical gardens, featuring a luxurious king bed, large corner spa bath and double shower temple for two. These bungalows are built for privacy as they also feature a private decking with outdoor heated Jacuzzi. Kims has 6 bungalows in this style, at the Southern end of our property, and they all offer a different view from their respective balconies depending upon their position. We mention to guests enquiring about this accommodation that they offer ocean glimpses between the trees. Yes, there are garden bungalows below the Terrace Spa Bungalows and had you looked out toward the ocean and not down, you may have notice an ocean glimpse from your balcony. The photograph that you have attached to your review is of a different style of bungalow. It is called a Terrace View Bungalow. We have two of these and they are on the Northern end of our property with beautiful views of Toowoon Bay. This bungalow also features an outdoor heated Jacuzzi on private decking. But this is a different style of bungalow to the one that you booked online. After our discussion, when you and your husband came to reception and advised us of your disappointment in regards to the view from your bungalow, we came to a mutual agreement and a substantial reduction in your nightly tariff was accepted by you. We are disappointed that you decided not to enjoy your time with us. We offer a complimentary Continental breakfast in our tariff. It includes fresh squeezed juices, cereals, homemade Bircher muesli, Chia seed pods, yogurts, stewed fruits, fresh fruits, freshly baked croissants, muffins, Danishes and pastries, a variety of toast and homemade jams and spreads, filtered coffee and tea. We also offer an a la carte menu if you wish for some bacon and eggs or some smoked salmon or smashed avocado. Our dinner menu has a wide variety of options including macadamia crusted prawns, fresh seafood, Tasmanian salmon fillet and rib eye fillet. We do include a traditional roast of the day. Our entire menu is prepared in our kitchen. I am pleased to read that you thought our staff were a delight and eager to please. Thank you again for your feedback.

We were looking so forward to staying at Kim's after hearing of friend's visits. I think it is worth noting that they each stayed some 10 years ago (or more) and it sounds like it has gone very downhill since. I don't want to completely bag Kim's as there are definitely some good points but overall it is WAY OVERPRICED for what it is. I am told by many friends that you used to go to Kim's for the food and that breakfast and dinner were included in the $610.00 a night price tag. Now you pay the $610.00 and you have to pay for dinner (which is definitely not cheap and is only OK quality) and instead of getting a cooked breakfast included, you get a pretty sad continental breakfast. Cereal in the individual little packets, bread (that you toast yourself), juice and some OK pastries. You can order from the breakfast menu if you want something hot (you just have to pay for it). I decided to order the omelette @ $18 and it was the worst omelette I have ever had. It was so rubbery that the edges had dried out and it was just folded over the toppings inside so not even a traditional omelette. When I booked I had informed the lady we had just got married and treating ourselves as the honeymoon had been delayed due to Covid. It also came up on check-in and it is disappointing that they didn't do a little something for newlyweds. Lets face it, it doesn't cost much for a bottle of wine and it goes a long way in the way of Customer service. On customer service, you can tell it is not something that is of high priority to them and no one really goes the extra mile or tries to impress. Very young wait staff at the restaurant who again do not really value giving great customer service. On the Sunday morning the staff were talking about their night out the night before. We stayed in a garden terrace with a jacuzzi on the balcony but unfortunately on our second day (of a 4 day stay) the jacuzzi thermostat broke. We were too tired to report in on Saturday night and instead reported on Sunday and they arranged for us to move room where the jacuzzi was working. The rooms were lovely and airy, clean and a good size but a little tired and outdated. It is only a 2 minute walk onto the sand however. Overall it was a "nice" time but I do not think we will be going back. I really hope that Kim's take this all onboard as I have read many other reviews stating similar points. I think next time we want to spend in excess of $600 a night, we will head to Hayman Island where you cannot compare the location, food, customer service.

Thank you for writing your review. With the arrival of Covid, many things changed. One of the huge changes for Kims was that our buffet dinner and breakfasts were no longer able to be served. All tariffs were amended to reflect this. We now include a Continental breakfast in our daily tariff (we also have an a la carte menu at breakfast for an additional cost) and serve an a la carte menu at dinner. Our Continental breakfast not only includes toast, cereal, juice and pastries, but also freshly baked muffins, croissants, fresh fruit, stewed fruits, yoghurts, bircher muesli and chia pots which are freshly made each day. There is also the option to add to the Continental breakfast by ordering from our breakfast a la carte menu and I am sorry that you did not enjoy your omelette. Providing excellent Customer Service is something that we strive for. Reading your comments is very disappointing and we will be discussing your comments with our staff. I am very happy that you found your bungalow lovely and airy and I am very pleased that you mentioned the malfunction of your jacuzzi o that we could move you during your stay so that you could enjoy this facility.

After hearing many glowing reviews about Kim’s from my mother (who has been visiting for many years) and various friends who chose Kim’s for their honeymoon destination, we finally decided to treat ourselves to a couple of nights here (despite being aware that due to Covid, the famous buffet was no longer available and we would need to pay to dine in the restaurant). The location is stunning (right on the beach), and the retreat is quiet and private, providing a lovely atmosphere for couples. We were greeted at reception by a lovely woman who made us feel welcome and took us to our Garden Spa bungalow, which was beautifully clean on arrival. Unfortunately though, we were underwhelmed to find 1 ply toilet paper and drug store toiletries in our bathroom, and not so much as a complimentary cookie. We dined at the restaurant for our first night; the staff were friendly and attentive and our meals were tasty. However, we couldn’t help but feel that it just wasn’t worth the $150 price tag on top of paying $400 a night in accommodation (during the week), knowing that previously, meals via the buffet were inclusive.

Our complementary continental breakfast was nice on both mornings. We especially enjoyed the home made croissants, pastries, muffins and jams. We were disappointed to find that coffee was an extra charge, and that we had to approach staff to order it (rather than being offered table service).

We acknowledge that the buffet could not continue due to Covid, however we also feel that Kim’s has not compensated by reducing their accommodation pricing. It would also appear that cuts have been made elsewhere to save money (i.e. the toilet paper and toiletries), which takes away from the luxurious five star retreat Kim’s claims to be.

All in all, our stay was pleasant and we appreciate the location is beautiful and the retreat is well kept. Unfortunately, we do not feel that it in itself is worth the price tag.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review about your recent visit to Kims. We are very happy that you thought our location and retreat provided a lovely atmosphere and that our reception and dining room staff were friendly, attentive and helpful during your stay. Our Garden Spa Bungalows are very popular with their outdoor heated Jacuzzi and I am very happy that you enjoyed your bungalow and that you found it to be beautifully clean. Our toiletries are from Serendipity’s Luxury Amenities Collection. These are enriched with beneficial indigenous botanicals and delicately scented to pamper skin and hair. This product has been chosen with great care, with our guests comfort in mind. We use a luxury hotel quality 2 ply toilet paper?? Kims tariffs traditionally included our buffet dinner and breakfast. Of course, this has all changed and our nightly tariff has been reduced to reflect this. Our current tariff does include a complimentary Continental breakfast and I am pleased to hear that you did enjoy our home baked croissants, pastries, muffins and jams. We do offer filtered coffee with our complimentary buffet but our barista made coffee is an additional charge. I am glad that in general your stay was pleasant and thank you once again for your review.

We’ve just spent a lovely weekend at Kim’s. We stayed in MiddleBeach which was a cabin right on the beach front. The location was perfect. Although the ocean was unswimmable due to the recent NSW floods, we still loved being on the beach front. Our dinners in the restaurant were a real highlight. We had Moreton Bay bugs both nights, sashimi platter, pork loin and the pavlova roulade. The quality of the food was excellent. The service was also fabulous. The owner is maître d and is cheerful and warm. The waitress Meg needs a special mention as she had that special something that made us feel like a very important customer. The lovely girl and check in was also kind. The only negative was I think $650 is a little high for the accommodation per night. As others have mentioned it would be really nice if a cappuccino was included with your breakfast. Such a simple addition which would be so appreciated. Also just from an environmental perspective it would be so nice if the hotel used deluxe body wash, shampoo and conditioners attached to the wall and refilled. I know Aesops do this at other hotels. Those little plastic bottles - I just can’t help thinking about the impact of thousands of them per year. The only other thing was the bed was way too soft for us, and the pillows. Would have been nice to have a few spare pillows to choose from. However I realise this is personal preference. But thank you to the staff at Kim’s for a beautiful getaway.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review on your recent stay with us at Kims. We are delighted that you had an enjoyable weekend in your beachfront bungalow. They are our most popular style of accommodation and the views are wonderful! We are very fortunate and thankful that an unswimmable ocean was the only inconvenience that was suffered at Kims. The Moreton Bay Bugs and Sashimi Plate are two of our most ordered seafood menu items. Our Chef’s strive to provide the freshest, quality ingredients for every service. It is always lovely to receive such positive comments about our staff. We will ensure that these are passed on to Meg and also our reception staff. We do provide a complimentary Continental breakfast to all of our guests. Our Continental breakfast menu has a wide variety of options including fresh and stewed fruits, yoghurts, cereals, homemade bircher muesli, chai pots with fresh fruits and nuts, freshly squeezed juices, variety of toast, jams, honey and spreads, homemade muffins, fresh Danishes and pastries. We also offer filtered coffee and a variety of tea. If you do order coffee from our barista, then an additional charge does apply. Kims is a proud advocate for the environment. We take into serious consideration the environmental impact of all products used on our property, including the Serendipity range of toiletries that we provide in the accommodation. Not only is Serendipity an Australian company, but their packaging contains eco-pure organic plastic additive which allows the packing to biodegrade in a landfill disposal environment. The beds at Kims are from the Simmons Beauty Rest Pillow-Top Bed from the “Do Not Disturb” collection from Sleepmaker and our pillows are feather, however, we do have a firmer pillows available that we could have bought to your beachfront bungalow. Once again, thank you for taking the time to write your review, we do appreciate your comments and suggestions.

The good, location is excellent, rooms nice, and very nice environment to walk around, bar was nice and all staff very friendly. The restaurant however was terrible, free breakfast average and dinner was terrible and overpriced, we bought the fish thinking we would be getting proper restaurant quality perch, instead it was deep fried battered fish and chips like you get at a take away shop.
Nice place to go but eat elsewhere. Price is too steep for what you get.

Thank you for posting your review about your recent stay at Kims Beachside Retreat. We are very happy to hear that you enjoyed our location and accommodation. We also appreciate your positive comments about our wonderful staff. We are disappointed to read that you did not enjoy the complimentary breakfast during your stay. There is a large variety on our breakfast menu which includes our Continental buffet as well as a selection of “made-to-order” hot menu items. A sample of our menu is as follows: Fresh and stewed fruits, yoghurts, cereals, Bircher muesli, Chia, toast options including wholemeal, sourdough rye, milk loaf, raisin, and gluten free rustic white with a selection of spreads, homemade conserves and local honey, freshly baked Croissants and muffins. Hot selection: Egg and bacon roll, Brioche French toast with Canadian maple syrup, raspberry coulis and fresh berries, Local beef chipolatas and Hunter Valley bacon with grilled herbed tomato, garlic buttered mushrooms and eggs, Hunter Valley bacon and eggs, Smashed avocado with roasted heirloom tomatoes, goats cheese and fresh basil on toasted white sourdough, Corn fritters or Salmon patties with a poached egg and avocado, Omelette with bacon, cheese, tomato and mushroom. We are also disappointed that you did not enjoy our restaurant at dinner. We do have “Deep fried Ocean Perch fillet” on our menu which is served with chips and salad. Many of our guests enjoy this meal and have it more than once during their stay at Kims. Our batter is light and crispy and we certainly do not think that it is comparable to what you would order in a take away shop. We are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your meal. We appreciate your feedback and do hope to welcome you again.

Husband needed a break, chose midweek as no Saturday’s available for Villa I wanted, which was the 2 storey beachfront. it was raining for 2 days and cold, upstairs bedroom had a split air system, worked perfectly. No TV in upstairs bedroom which I would have expected. Downstairs heating was gas with rocks on top, very inefficient for the area to heat. Has been renovated very well, although tile flooring is extremely cold in colder weather. Bedding is very good, bathroom is huge. Not sure how unscreened windows and doors will work in summer. As this was during COVID period, no buffet breakfast, only continental included in tariff. Hot breakfast available at extra cost. My only gripe is that in restaurant, not enough attention given to guests arriving and being seated, staff not paying attention as to who was seated first , we had to ask for service at breakfast as waiter just overlooked us sitting there . Order was not correct, and very simple order. Asked for hot water to add to tea as was too strong, assume it has been sitting in a jug stewing. Was charged for an extra cup of tea. Coffee is free, tea is not, as advised by front desk when I questioned the charge on checkout. There were no sun beds, provided for this room. Unlike most on beachfront. We have been here before, no,problems, were a little disappointed this time.

Hi Bron, We provide dinner and breakfast as part of your package when staying with us. We do have lunch options that you can order and have delivered to your bungalow if you do not want to leave the property - or there are many local cafes and restaurants nearby!

"My most helpful tip is, do NOT come here if you can't do stairs, as there are no lifts and hundreds of stairs to negotiate, to get anywhere!!"
