Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had travelled all day and found that the fact that it had a restaurant and bar attached very handy. The restaurant also had a good range of senior’s meals at reasonable prices. First impressions from outside were a bit depressing (shabby) but on entering, full length windows and modern make of bed was very pleasant. However, whenever the blinds were drawn for privacy in the day there was very little light in the room (brighter/or more light fittings would have been appreciated). The bathroom had been renovated (at least basin area had been - but it didn't really fit with rest of bathroom- and a tap dripped). The shower worked well. The room was missing the things one takes for granted in motel rooms such as phone, tissues, shampoo etc. The bed was comfortable and the room appeared clean though stained carpet was depressing. Although it was near a main road it was quiet as all the rooms are at the back and the attached club/pub is at the front. It was a very hot day and the air-conditioning worked well. A swimming pool would have been great but overall the motel was OK for the price.

We have stayed here before, but when we went to check in about 11, we were told, rather rudely, that we would could not check in but would have to come back at 2.00. Given that we were going to the football, we told the receptionist that this was not possible. When we returned later that night, an extremely friendly, professional gentleman apologized for what had occurred & checked us in

Initially seemed very good as staff are helpful and friendly. Quilt, pillows and mattress protector are all polyester and extremely hot. The rooms are stuffy and have NO ventilation. No opening window - they they have all been sealed up.
The final insult was to have 2 adjoining rooms with noisy neighbours that played loud music, loud talking and laughing and doors slamming until 3.30am! We had planned on staying for an extra night or two if the offenders left, but were told that they were booked for more nights. It was suggested that WE could move rooms - not the loud offenders who refused to quieten when asked 6 different times. Perhaps compensation should be offered to guests who are unable to sleep because of disrespectful guests who were not asked to leave.

I stayed here for the annual pilgrimage to the Anzac Day March. The location was convenient and the room very generous in size. Although the hotel is on a busy intersection, the rooms are well back from the road and there was no noticeable traffic noise. The person who checked me in was friendly and efficient. Good value for money.

Stayed two nights Sunday 15th May and Monday 16th May. We booked and paid for a Studio Twin Queen Room which has 2 Queen Beds. We checked in with Amy at reception and when we got to our room found there was only a double and one twin bed. When we went back to reception Amy said that was the room number allocated by the booking agent and she said they did not have the Studio Twin Room available now for the two nights we were there. She said that we could have it for one night and then change to another room the next night. She did not understand why we were not happy with this as we had paid for a particular room, after this she became very rude and said that she could not do anything without referring it to the Venue Manager - Warner Morgan the next morning. As we had paid we had very little option but to take the room allocated by Amy. This hotel was built 40 years ago and is looking very tired due to lack of maintenance. Bedding is old and furniture is all marked and paint peeling off the walls. Definitely looked nothing like the photo's on their website. I am still waiting to hear from the Venue Manager - Warner Morgan about this and the refund Amy promised she would organize due to mix up with the room. Wish I had read tripadvisor before I booked as I would not have booked due to previous adverse reports.

We arrived at 9pm. There are no lights to show the hotel entrance, its only trial and error. Reception was closed at 5pm, and we had to search the building for a manager. The gaming room was the only area containing humans, we eventually tracked a manager down in a small office. The rooms were stuck in a 1970's time warp but were tolerably clean. The only form of heat was an asthmatic air conditioner which was too noisy to sleep through. In the morning we ordered breakfast but were eventually told that the cook did not arrive for work and therefore breakfast was off. The location is good for eastern suburbs business but that is the only plus point.
This building is crying out for redevelopment and proper management, we will not be back. Sorry to write a bad review but this is not good.

Response from Jai C, General Manager at Burvale Hotel
Responded 3 Dec 2018
Dear Peter, Thank you for taking the time to write a review and bringing these issues to my attention. Our reception hours are approximately 10am to 7pm although guests can check in to the hotel any time up until 5am in the morning via the gaming room. Outside of these hours there is a sign directing guests to the adjacent gaming room for accomodation matters. The hotel rooms were renovated in late 2016 although in your room 'room 2' the walk-in wardrobe was not renovated of which I feel you may be getting the 1970s vibe. I've checked the air-conditioner in your room and had it on the quiet mode for approximately 10 minutes time and could not find a fault however I will have our contractors look at it to see if it needs a service. I sincerely apologise for our breakfast chef being late that day but our food preparation staff are trained in food safety and food handling and unfortunately the manager on duty was not authorised or qualified to serve food to the public especially in our large kitchen with commercial equipment. The chef has been reprimanded for his punctuality. I am very sorry that you did not have a pleasurable experience staying with us and I do wish you the best for the future. If you do happen to decide to return please make yourself know to me so I can apologise in person. Kind Regards Jai C Venue Manager

After reading everything on trip advisor etc we had very low expectations. The hotel was fantastic. It's had a makeover and it is everything you could wish for. Beds and bedding were comfortable and clean, the place had new carpet, the bathroom was great and you even got decent toiletries. Would definitely stay here again and would also recommend to others.

Loved the kids room in the dining room - what a fantastic Idea.
